Cherry Jones on gay marriage, Sarah Paulson in new "Cupid" and "The Spirit" videosLast night, we got to see the first lesbian president of the United Stated on 24: Redemption, the two-hour prequel to the return of the series 24 in January.
OK, so the character wasn't a lesbian, but she was played by Cherry Jones, so that kinda counts. (I haven't watched the movie yet — it's saved on my DVR for the Thanksgiving break.) New York magazine recently interviewed Cherry about her role on 24, and asked her about Prop. 8:
When The Advocate interviewed Jones just before the election, she elaborated more on her relationship with actor Sarah Paulson:
Jones and Paulson in 2006 In the latest Sarah Paulson news, ABC has just released the first promo for the mid-season romantic comedy Cupid, starring Paulson and Bobby Canavale — watch it here. Here's a bizarrely composed Cupid cast shot (why do they all look like their heads are too big for their bodies here?)
I'm one of the few dozen people who liked Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, so I'm glad Sarah will be back on TV. Although Cupid looks like predictable sitcom fare to me, the original version did have a passionate fan following, and the fact that Sarah's character is promoted so heavily in the trailer is enough to get me to check it out when it debuts in January. In the meantime, Sarah has a smaller role in the upcoming graphic novel action movie The Spirit, which opens nationwide on Christmas Day. Paulson in The Spirit Last week, MTV debuted a "Women of The Spirit" featurette, with comments from Paulson and the other women in the film (Eva Mendes, Scarlett Johansson, Paz Vega, etc.). I'm over the tired guy-juggling-too-many-hot-women shtick (even if he is an action hero), but the lighting is cool! And so is this poster for the film, one of several interesting women of The Spirit posters:
24? Cupid? The Spirit? Which of these are you planning to watch? And is 24: Redemption worth watching, or would I be better of just marathoning Studio 60 on DVD over the break? (I'm a sucker for that Harriet and and Jordan subtext.) Submitted by on November 24, 2008 - 5:00pm. |

hmm
Happy B-day to Ms. Jones!
I miss that show
I loved Studio 60, and was crushed when it was cancelled! I rented the first season and locked myself in my room for an entire weekend. I think Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford complimented each other perfectly, and of course I love both Sarah Paulson and Amanda Peet! Who doesn't?!

Love Sarah Paulson!
I was a big fan of Studio 60 and though Sarah Paulson was adorable in it. One of the points often raised for actors not coming out is that they won't be considered for straight romantic roles, so I think it is great to see Sarah play romantic leads like in Studio 60 and these other projects. Cherry Jones does look quite a lot older - anyone know their ages? I could go look it up I suppose..
Cherry Jones didn't bowl me over as the president on 24 Redeption. She has a tough act to follow when you think of the wonderful characters they have had. I'd vote for David Palmer (maybe not Wayne!) and the evil President (can't remember his name, Gregory Itzen and Jean Smartt the first couple) was brilliant. Powers Boothe also impressed me a lot - and scared me a lot! Cherry Jones will hopefully get a chance to get her teeth into the role when the series proper starts.
The cupid photo looks odd
Watch 24 Redeption
I am bias because 24 is my favorite show and am sooo ready for the seventh season. Sarah you should absolutly watch the 24 movie. You will not regret watching it. By the way, if you haven't watch the other seasons you should.
P.S.
Sarah Warn just continue doing what you've been doing. Much respect to you.
Cupid sounds like a show I
The age thing
....is not really an issue when you are in it. I am 15 years older than my beloved, and it works quite nicely for us. People fall in love for all kinds of reasons. I imagine Cherry to be extremely captivating in many ways that quickly trump any issues age may raise in some. She has a passion for what she does, and I can see that passion traveling into all areas of her life. Passion trumps many flaws in my mind.
As a rule, we will all age. There will be wrinkles where there were never wrinkles, and some parts may be further south than they were before. It will speak volumes of our community how we respond to our celebrities as they age. Will we always see age as a flaw, will they all doomed to life under the knife to gain acceptance from their peers? Or will we be able to see the beauty that is there inside as well as out? I hope the latter is true. Beauty is SO much more than skin-deep.
