It's pronounced verve cleeck-o the o being the same as the o in orange, so a short o as opposed to oh as in oh I see. top tip: if you can't afford the widow's good stuff (like moi), Freixenet is an excellent and very cheap substitute. [Freh-jeu-neh].

Haha! I'm going to go on the record and say that was both the sexiest and funniest BwB I've ever watched...or of any vlog I've watched on all of AfterEllen.com. Every week I think it can't get any funnier, any better and every week I'm pleasantly suprised...and corrected. Is it next Sunday yet?

I agree that '08 is definitely the Year of the Lesbian (but again, I think I say that every year...)

And on a side note, Bridget...I actually WAS in History class when it "dawned on me" that I was a lesbian.

I was 8 when I played "apartment" and 15 watching the...

I second that. More bandwidth. I've been getting gateway errors and just generally not being able to access the blog almost daily. Might want to look into something like CacheFly or something.

It's the fact that Drupal (the platform we use) was not really built in an optimal way to handle this many complex database queries - which always increase when we get more traffic. In other words, if I turned off the ability to comment or have a community, we'd be fine! :)

We're still trying to fix this, but in talking to other high-traffic websites that use Drupal, this appears to be a common problem. Unfortunately, there's nothing much better out there, so we're kinda stuck with this for now. Sorry! Trust me, it frustrates me even more than you!

Drupal (not Joomla, Wordpress, ExpressEngine, etc etc)

Contact the folks at The Onion, I've heard they've done a good job on their site (with Drupal) with a few hacks that have cleaned things up a bit. And FastCompany just redesigned onto the platform, I've heard. Does your I.T. team have a PHP whiz? Because the great thing about open source, is well, just that - it's open. There are a lot of resources to go to, a veritable community of people, who are all making incremental better changes for their sites.

There might be some coding things you could do to solve some of the issues you've been having. I find http://www.phpbuilder.com/ to be a good place to get code/ gain ideas for code changes. Also, the Dave Mercer book on Drupal has been a help for programmers that I've worked with. http://www.druplet.com/ has been great for searching for add-on modules.

As a CMS it has its pros and cons, like in everything. Innovation vs stability. And with anything open source, the larger the community, the more stable it will be while still pushing the innovation edge.

It might help to send your folks to DrupalCon in Boston this March too.
And if any of y'all come up for OSCON in July, please give me a holler, I'd love to grabs drinks and gab tech.

Would it be totally ridiculous to suggest something based on the (open source) LiveJournal platform? LiveJournal and its sister sites (GreatestJournal, DeadJournal) have lots of traffic and allow commenting/comment threading but don't seem to have as much trouble serving up content without choking. I know some tweaking would be necessary to make it work with the AfterEllen layout and not look like LJ, but it might be a workable idea.

Your valentines looked alot more eventful than mine :P The night before valentines I slept at my best boy mates house with another boy, and we shared heart candy the next morning, whilst listening to the songs from the production "les miserables". That's what happens when all your friends are drama geeks :P bUt I suppose I saved a hell of alot of money :D

Just also wanted to comment on how pretty Courtney is! & of course you too Bridget, and Baby Bridget :P I was giggling away to myself when Courtney fell off the bed at the end, it's something i'd do :P

i think the thing about lesbians having large hands is some archaic homophobia/gender issue. historically, lesbians have been portrayed as masculine women because femaleness is wrapped up in attractiveness to men. in reaction to this we had the lavender menace, who waged a campaign for women identified women, to show that lesbians can be as feminine as straight women. i think the large hand thing is just a hold over of those old stereotypes. and i am a gay girl and have small hands and feet, so it is not true in every case

Not to completely geek everyone out here, but there is some evidence that lesbians have longer ring fingers than straight women. In other words, their ring fingers are longer than their middle fingers. Also, gay men's hair tends to spiral counter-clockwise while straight men's hair spirals clockwise. Okay, so none of this is true in EVERY case, but recent studies looking for genetic differences between the straights and the gays have found notable evidence of these occurances.
