She didn't. She simply went to the library a lot in middle school, and the teacher noticed and gave her the nickname "Master of the Library" as a result. At most, she gave him a love letter back then and he rejected her, as was the right thing for him to do.

    The manga

Warning that this might be considered a spoiler. If I remember correctly, in the manga Sugimoto has/had a crush on the teacher, but it turns out hes engaged to her older sister, and it upset her greatly.

    woot

I got it to work!  Yet again an anime adds a weird disturbing aspect to its plot. So i gather yasuko isn't gay then, could have fooled me, im a little disappointed but in a way that leaves it open for fumi and achan cause i think ultimately thats where its going. At any rate i love it, fumi makes mountains out of molehills, but the coming out scene was quite moving.

    i love this anime

gee the fell for male teacher thing made me cringe..but if the teacher was a woman, i would totally accept lol.

    let's stop from here

    WTF, Yasuko??

I was loving this show until the whole teacher thing crept in. WTF is up with that? Poor Fumi, she's going to be heart-broken, just like the other red-head girl, I forget her name. Those bloody straight girls, having their cake and eating it! I'll continue watching though, I love the music and Fumi's chemistry with Achan is great.

I'm the rainbow-coloured sheep of the family.

    Yasuko isn't straight. She

Yasuko isn't straight. She is bisexual. If the anime continues to faithfully adapt the manga, you'll see that even Yasuko's family considers her bisexual, even though, like Fumi, she hasn't labeled herself yet. And can we ix-nay the bi-bashing here? I like how this series acknowledges that sexuality isn't always "either-or" (gay or straight) and includes a well-written character who's bi who doesn't "turn" gay or straight. (Episode 5 in particular reinforces that Yasuko really loves Fumi.) Anyway, this was a great episode! Fumi's coming out scene with Akira was sweet and, imo, pretty true to life. I'm still psyched that Afterellen is streaming this series. :)

    So far...

the anime is sticking really close to the manga. It was nice to see the kiss between Fumi and Yasuko. As for falling for a male teacher, at that age, most of us are still trying to figure out our sexual identity so in a way, it adds a bit realism to it all. I am also liking how the anime adds a bit of extra details in some scenes. I'm still liking it. I just hope it has a happy ending. I wonder if the soundtrack will eventually become available...

Thanks for posting the latest ep :-) looking forward for the new one.

Fumi is happy in one scene.

Fumi and Achan were laughing. Fumi was happy in that scene which is rare for her. Overall I find the anime is decent. I really like the theme songs.

    No joke.  I was like,

No joke.  I was like, "wait, wait wait...Fumi's laughing? Weird."

    As for the student-teacher thing

That's one of common theme in Japanese comic books targeted at high school students. But in Aoi Hana, as Hikki06 said above, that teacher rejected Yasuko. IMO, Yasuko doesn't really love Fumi.

    WHEEE!!!

We got to see the kiss!!!  OMG, I'm so excited about that!  This isn't Cinema Paradiso!!!  :D  :D  :D

    love it!

well, this is the most realistic yuri I've seen, as far as coming to terms with a character's feelings - I don't think any other that I've watched as even mentioned closets or confessions. Can't wait for the next episode! :D

    I really love this.

I'm really enjoying the art, and I think that every seiyū (voice actor) is doing a good job. I tend to find that the voice actors in English can sound a bit fake. This one really is seeming pretty realistic, in terms of yuri. I always like to see characters develop, and I like how Fumi is coming to terms with who she is. Really, I'd say that Yasuko is bisexual. Sexuality can be a very fluid thing, so I think that the teacher could be a nice plot twist.

    Aoi Hana Episode 4

Yasuko is a player. She is bossy and enjoys being w/ different girls.  Fumi doesn't deserve her. I don't see Achan hooking up w/ Fumi.  I think Achan has a secret admirer.  I hope Fumi finds someone else to crush on.

I'm glad the kiss was put in. The coming out was really innocent and cool.

    It won't load!

Why can't I see this video??!! It just says "Loading configuration" and nothing happens.

I could see all the previous episodes just fine.

    Thanks for uploading!

I'm so happy this is being uploaded to After Ellen!

The nice thing about this anime is that while it seems to be following the manga pretty closely it does add a few things which I feel add to the plot, giving further explanation to some parts.

In reasponse to other comments I don't think Yasuko is straight. I think she really does like Fumi, but she's still crushing pretty hard on her ex-teacher. Kudos to him for turning her down though.
