Watch the 2009 NewNowNext Awards

Logo's NewNowNext Awards is a tongue-in-cheek awards show celebrating the "fresh, freaky and up-and-coming" in queer and queer-friendly entertainment and pop culture. The presenters and nominees this year include Erin Foley, Gloria Bigelow, Kate McKinnon, Selene Luna, Jessica Clark, Mary McCormack, Taylor Momsen and Britney Spears.

It also includes performances by Eve, The Paradiso Girls, Morningwood, and The Fire and Reason.

Finally, the show reveals (in very small text here, because the screen is so small) the winner of the "Best Lesbian Kiss" Award you voted for in April — it's Bette and Tina! Shocking, I know; while there were other worthy contenders, this couple was pretty much destined to win given all the years L Word fans waited for them to get back together.

The show debuts on Logo tonight, but you can also watch it here in three parts:

    i have the same problem too. they said anyone can watch it but i'm not sure whether overseas people can? if not i'm gutted coz i was looking 4ward to watching it :(

    Did you try downloading the newest flash player as Sarah suggested because the new vid has never worked for me but I downloaded the new flash and now they're working :)

    The show had a good feel to it but I missed not seeing all the AE girls like last year and they're were only 2 female winners!! Shame the ladies weren't more appreciated....

    I don't even know what to say about that. I was sad Otalia didn't win, but more upset that they didn't even have a presentor for the award or anything. Sheesh.

    Logo actually doesn't incorporate any of the website-specific awards into the show, except for a small text mention at the bottom of the screen. They made a last-minute exception for AfterElton.com this year, just because Christian and his boyfriend were at the awards, I think, but none of the other website awards (from Pink is the New Blog, Arjun Writes, etc.) were incorporated into the show.

    That the best kiss went to Tina and Bette yet again shows, as Twilight winning the MTV Film awards a few weeks ago did, that having fans vote for the winner means it becomes a lame popularity contest.  Sad when it should be reflective of what is best that it becomes what has the biggest, most obsessed fan base.  It is not surprising their fan base is so big though.  It is so nonthreatening and almost sexless it allows for safe worship.  So it shares another connection with nonsense like Twilight.  Next time how about a couple where one believes the two women may actually be into each other and not a couple that seem challenged to show anything remotely carnal.

    I think i'm going to go against the tide a little and say I thought it was really great. A lot of fun.

    Things like this make me happy to be gay. It's like, we're apart of mainstream culture by default, but we also have this underground culture of awesomeness to revel in.

    These Paradiso Girls and their extreme hotness (not to mention infectious, and gay music), they seemed to come out of nowhere. I'm usually on top of new acts, but I can't say i've heard of them. I'm glad to have now though.

     

    So what's the deal? Are they team players? Can't recall any Afterellen article on them and I read this site pretty religiously.

     

    *Fellow Afterelleners with vid problems, if you read the text at the top of the video you will see a set of instructions posted by the always awesome Sarah Warn, regarding the video, which may help rectify any problems. I had the same issue last week and doing as the instructions say helped me.

    It was awesome, very funny.  Now I have to check out most of these bands!  I loved the Paradiso Girls especially the short haired blonde one...  I would like to hear more about them.

    Well, I must to say that I´m so disappoint that Best Kiss goes to Tina and Bette, seriosuly, I would love to see that Emily and Naomi win but nothing can be perfect, anyway, go to my life... but again, Emily and Naomi should win that award, really =)

    Just kidding, it's a nice enough video.

    Although I didn't posses the bandwidth and attention span to watch it all, any event that can acknowledge so many talented dykes (listed above) and my favourite comics is a great one by me.

    Emily & Naomi's kiss should have won :P that season 6 Tibette kiss was just like "eh" like the rest of season 6 and obviously loyal shippers of Tibette are clinging to the past if they can't see how ridiculous season 6 was.

    I think i've found my new summer party music. I'm going to run off to check out the rest of teh album, but if anyone knows anything about them let me know.
