The "Nigella Express": coming soon to a bookshelf and TV near you

Two things I will surely love for the rest of my days? Women and food. I love cooking. I love women. I especially love women who can cook, and if they happen to look like Nigella Lawson, I'm not complaining. I'm seriously, totally, definitely not complaining:

The Domestic Goddess who brought about a renewed interest in the sensuality and pleasure of food will be back on bookshelves this fall with a new title, Nigella Express. According to the Canadian publisher's website, Nigella Express promises to feature recipes that involve various shortcuts and time savers — a big plus for those of us who want to impress the ladies but don't want to spend the day slaving over the proverbial hot stove.

Here's a fun fact: According to Wikipedia, in 2000 Nigella wrote an Observer article entitled "Sapphism is more than designer-dykery," wherein she discusses her views on the utilization of "lesbianism" (read: straight women doing what appeals to heterosexual men, so, in other words, not lesbianism) in advertising, as well as her thoughts on why heterosexual women sometimes like having sex with other women.

I'm not going to lie: I didn't see that coming. Just when I thought she couldn't get any more attractive, she goes and discusses topics like the ambiguities and fluidity of human sexuality. That's not to say that I necessarily agree with all of her views (for example, I'm totally OK with "model-thin boy-girls in an artful embrace"); rather, I find her even more engaging than before, and that means her skill level in being engaging has now reached ridiculous levels.

If that's not enough to convert you to a Nigella lover, here's a clip of her in a red silk robe encouraging the consumption of carbohydrates:

Seriously, what's not to love? Here's another clip of her at the Food Network's 2007 Awards show, presenting the "Icy Innovations" award with Alton Brown:

The ice cream award — how fantastic is that? I've never been a huge Alton Brown fan, and this clip doesn't do a whole lot to change my opinion of him, but at least he was able to speak in her presence. I'd probably just freeze up and smile awkwardly.

According to Lawson's website, Nigella Express will be released in the U.S. on Nov. 6 and will hit Canadian bookshelves Oct. 23. U.K. fans are the luckiest of all, as it's already been released there, coinciding with the companion TV series of the same name. The TV series debuts in the U.S. on Oct. 7 on the Food Network — Canadians will have to wait until November to watch it (also on the Food Network). Though her website doesn't provide exact dates for international book releases or show airings, it does provide lists of broadcasters and publishers who have signed on, so you can see whether your country will soon play host to Nigella's considerable talent.

    :D

    she is just yummy :)

    *goes and reads article*

    a domestic goddess indeed!

she took part in a programme called "Who Do You Think You Are?" on the BBC i really recommend it. the programme itself has a grand format as it explores the family history of the famous. her programme was fasinating the woman is wonderful on so many levels and her background extremely rich and varied.

her new tv programme at times is a little patronising mind, i think the idea that she doesn't have a fair bit of time on her hands is a bit contrived but if she happily pours frozen peas into curries whilst talking like that and looking exceptionally gorgeous who am i to complain! :)

    A great big, sexy.....

    "dollop!"

Oh yes, when she OOZED out the word "dollop" the other night whilst extolling the virtue of bread & butter pudding made with croissants instead of bread, well, let's just say I could have listened to her say that word maaaaaaaaaaaany a time.

Luckily my girlfriend is currently obsessed with her books and tv shows, so I get to watch her guilt-free! ;-)

You should see Ronnie Ancona parody her - it's a scream!

She can butter MY muffin ANY day *weg*

    Love, love, love her...

I've read that article before, isn't she fantastic? I'm obsessed with all her of stuff (books, tv shows, recipes) and am a lazy cook to boot so I'll definitely be checking out the new book :)

    Huh

Ridiculously beautiful sexy woman, but what the hell @ the Observer article. Where did that come from? lol. Does Nigella write random articles like that all time?

Color me really surprised about that article.
Who'd have thought that nice chocoholic
lady that tortures your guts with godddess-forbid-delicious
    food also writes? =)

My mom and I, good italian carb lovers as we are,
    watch her show religiously.
I can swear she has some uncanny power to make any food
she prepares look uncannily appetizing =P

    A way to a woman's heart....well, this woman anyway...

"Women and food. I love cooking. I love women. I especially love women who can cook..."

    Here here, Sista!

With the likes of Giada DeLaurentiis and Cat Cora gracing my screen, Food Network has become my most watched channel.  I LOVE food!  There's nothing sexier than a woman in the kitchen.  If she can serve me up a plate of shrimp fettuchini, or linguini with pesto sauce, then she would certainly have my heart....

...And I'd provide the dessert. ;)

    Unintentional Burlesque

I do love me my Nigella Lawson.

Boobs, Brains, and a sexy accent.  What a dish.

Does she strike anyone else as the Dita Von Teese for the William-Sonoma set?  Even if it's unintentional.  Her style is a real throwback, I feel.  Check out this link to her Radio Times cover.

    Nigella

She just makes food and cooking look like such a decadently sensual experience... combine that with intelligence, and she is really really sexy, in my opinion at least.

    Cravings

My partner and I are Foodies and horribly addicted to the Food Network.  Nigella is one of my favorites, but Giada DeLaurentis is the bomb!  Watch her closely, when she takes a bite of food, she rolls it around on her tongue and then the camera cuts away.  I don't think Giada swallows.  How obsessive of me to even notice, huh?  Giada's weekend getaways are my personal favorite.  Giada, Giada, Giada, Giada!

    Gorgeous orbs....

I talking about her line of mixing bowls etc!  Where was your mind going?  Actually I do believe they were designed with her boobs in mind.  Love her curves!  Just lovely...sigh.  Food Network or Amazon should carry them on line (the bowls:) if your interested.  The pale blue is really sweet.  I gave the sugar and creamer to a  friend for Christmas last year and she was delighted!!

    I enjoyed her article...

...but disagree with some of her assertions.

"For the fantasy, or reality, to be at all satisfying, the man has to be involved either as participant or spectator...I know no women, although they may exist, who find the notion of male homosexual activity erotically exciting."

There does seem to be this persistent assumption that heterosexual men are incapable of identifying with women on a romantic (or any other) level.

As a bisexual woman, I have no difficulty identifying with gay men in romantic and/or erotic relationships, although I admit I probably do not see it through the same eyes as a gay male would. I also know a number of women who find the idea of male homosexual activity erotically exciting (Lesbians included).

I'm not trying to imply there is a lot of "penis envy" going on (nothing could be further from the truth) but gender and attraction are broad spectrum; even more so in fantasy. Men and women share a number of physical qualities, and sexual interests, with a different degree of fluidity from individual to individual.

The erotic or romantic appeal of a relationship, animal or object is not really the same thing as the desire to have sex, it's about sensuality. When I read about/watch a TV show about a lesbian couple I adore, I do not do so with the wish or need to supplant one of them in the relationship, or to become a bedroom voyeur. You might also like the idea of sex, as a fantasy or in reality, but I don't think it automatically follows that you must.

This may not directly relate to Nigella and her charms (or does it?), but I think it's relevant to the wider discussion of gender and the representation of women.

Objectification is a normal part of fantasy and desire, as MsSullivan touches upon in her own evaluation of "model-thin boy-girls in an artful embrace". From a feminist perspective, I think this furore over "shocking" lesbian scenes would go away faster if we stopped telling people (mainly men) that they should feel guilty for enjoying it's depiction.

We need better balance in the representation of gay people before our presence will really become a "non-issue". This is the real underlying problem with the depiction of all men and women in the media whether the matter is age, skincolour, physical ability, mental ability, culture, sex or sexual preference.

    Ooooo ...

Yeah, I remember Nigella from when I used to live back home in New Zealand, and seeing her come to the screen here in the US has just been WONDERFUL. She is stunning, and I love how she isn't afraid to let her curves show and use butter ... and I say this as a certified skinny chick.

Both her and Giada DeLaurentis are sometimes the whole reason I watch their shows, as I totally will swoon on a weekend morning watching them. Course, the fact that they can cook awesomely, and have really interesting shows, also helps.

Not to mention Cat Cora (who is our resident Food Network lesbian) and Ellie Krieger, who are utterly gorgeous ... yes, I am a Food Network addict, why do you ask? *smile*

[Though I do wish someone would get rid of Rachel Ray, as that woman just annoys the shite outta me. She tears the shit, meaning, and soul out of any ethnic food, and can't pronounce words in the slightest. Oh, and the stuff is "Extra Virgin Olive Oil", not bloody "E.V.O.O." ... gah!]

    Ahhhhh Nigella

A local station ran her first show a few years ago and I was totally hooked. First by her looks and then by her passion for food.  Anyone who is wlling to use their fingers to taste something or lick the spoon with such joy was definitely someone I could relate to.

There's an honesty and naturalness about her that makes her that much more attractive.  Not too mention the curves.  (She's a Brick House) Yummy!!!

    Peace, Joy and Love

    Completely unrelated...

and I apologize profusely for that, but...

MsSullivan, I noticed from both this post an your profile that you are Canadian. Any chance that in the future you could blog about Gabrielle Miller and/or Tara Spencer-Nairn, the beauties of that little Canadian show Corner Gas? They're gorgeous and talented and I've been dying to see them featured however briefly in this blog for some time now.

    Anyway, just a thought... :)

    mmm she was a journalist

    long before she cooked.

And yes she is utterly f*ckable and really knows how to work it.

    Nigellaaaaaah!

There are no words to express what I think about her except a long protracted sigh at the end of her name. I am a dedicated follower, and so is my waistline :-(
