Are you on the "Fringe"?The summer TV schedule has barely gotten off the ground, and the networks are already rolling out the big trailers for fall. This means you’ll probably be sick of most shows before they even premiere — which is usually the case for me. But I have a confession to make: I’ve been sucked in by the Fox hype machine. After watching a promo the other night, I’m now totally psyched for the new J.J. Abrams joint, Fringe, starring Anna Torv and
If Fringe is half as good as Abrams’ other shows (Felicity, Alias, Lost), we’re in for lots of smart, ass-kicking fun. And by the looks of the new trailer, we’ve got nothing to worry about. Check it out and let me know what you think. OK, how cool was that? It reminds me of a cross between Alias and The X-Files — with a Lost-style plane crash thrown in for good measure. And it doesn’t hurt that Torv is smokin’ hot either. Her FBI character, Olivia Dunham, could be the next Sydney Bristow (minus the awesome wigs, unfortunately). Fox lists Torv as a “newcomer,” but our British readers will no doubt recognize her as Alex, the soon-to-be-married lesbian who has a steamy affair with Jessica (Shelley Conn of Nina’s Heavenly Delights) on the BBC drama, Mistresses. A friend turned me on to the series through Internet clips, and I liked it better than Cashmere Mafia and Lipstick Jungle combined — due in large part to Torv’s spot-on performance. So, I have high hopes that she’ll bring the same strong-yet-vulnerable dynamic to this role.
Another good sign of the show’s potential to rock is the amount of time and money Fox is throwing behind it. They’ve already started a viral marketing campaign similar to the one staged for Lost and Abrams’ monster-movie flick, Cloverfield. On the official site, you can click on different things to discover Easter Eggs and an odd mix of engaging links — everything from a video of a man with 12 fingers to a sinister-looking company (is this Fringe’s version of the Dharma Initiative or SD6?) to a stressed-out developer’s blog. What do all these things have in common? Guess we’ll have to stay tuned to find out. I, for one, can’t wait.
What about you? Did the trailer and Website get you pumped for the show? Or do you think all the early hype is overkill? Submitted by on June 9, 2008 - 3:00pm. |

I adore Anna Torv, I find
I adore Anna Torv, I find her absolutely mesmerizing!
I loved Alias, and hope this show is just as good. I'm very excited about it!
Anna Torv
I agree
Anna Torv!
JJ and the Viral

I love the idea
I love the idea of the viral campain mixing with the show, it really lets fans get involved. I myself got completely swept up in the Cloverfield campain and it enhanced the movie experience to no end.
The only downside is that I'm in the UK so by the time we get the show the viral information will be out of sync with the show.
did you ever visit
1-18-08-underground.com...I'm sorry I spent months...MONTHS on the Cloverfield viral stuff...and it was actually really fun. I was just wondering if you were a part of any of the sites...and hopefully have visited the underground.

i'm pretty stoked...
be a little wary
I have to admit that Abrams has made some good stuff (not including Lost) but I'm a little wary of this premise and saw this early review of Fringe a couple of days ago: http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/12500
I always like to make up my own mind about shows and I'll give it a go for the gorgeous women in it, but seriously, what were they thinking with Joshua Jackson? The premise sounds a little kooky for me too - I think I'll pin most of next season's hopes on The Sarah Connor Chronicles to deliver again.
Anna Torv
This is the show I'm looking forward to the most this coming fall and it's all because of Anna Torv. I don't think I would be as interested in the show as I am now if not for her. I became a big fan after watching her in Mistresses. She was fantastic in it (along with Shelley Conn) and I expect her to be even more so on Fringe.
Totally agree with the poster above who said that she looks a bit like Cate Blanchett (that's always a positive).
The only complaint I have is the casting of Joshua Jackson. I never followed Dawson's Creek but he will always be Pacey to me and I would think the same goes for mainstream America. His character is coming off as annoying and a wise-ass in the preview clips I've seen; that's no good. Can't wait for this show to premiere. JJ is a genius.
joshua jackson
to me, joshua jackson will always be charlie conway, providing the heart for the mighty ducks as they struggle to defeat the hawks, team iceland, and, last but oddly not least, the varsity team. here's hoping there'll be hockey in this series, or at least a flying v.
quack quack quack quack quack QUACK QUACK QUACK GOOOOO DUCKS!!!
I've been posting a lot on this
but thank you for that...cause the same with me.

Looks promising!!
Do I miss my X-Files? Of
Typical, Josh stars on a show and people still whine
LOL
I didn't watch Dawson's Creek, I have no idea who Pacey is. But Jackson must be an excellent actor if people can't disassociate him from a character.
Lookin' forward to Fringe.
what's wrong with josh?
i watched dawson's creek, and pacey was my fave character, i hated dawson's look (big forehead, etc) and thought joey made the right choice in sticking with pacey.
anyways, i don't understand what people have against him, i've always thought he was a decent actor, from the other work that he's done.
as for the girl, never heard of her.
most of you here will obv be watching for her, but me? i'll be watching for joshua!
that's if the uk get it... i hope we do, as it's right up my street. and it's be jj abrams, lost is great (but confusing!!) and although i have all 5 seasons of alias, i've only watched the first episode, i can't seem to get into it at the moment.
so yeah, definitely be up for watching this show!
what just happened
ok, i have no idea what happened in that trailer and can't say it caught my attention in any way other than Anna Torv.
That sounds shallow but the girl can act.
I've never attached to lost or alias, or cloverfield, but Felicity was great in it's first season or two and Joshua Jackson seemed like the best actor of the bunch, outside of michelle williams of course.
i'm just not sold on Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman. They tend to go big fx and the trailer was a bit showy in that department.
Being a summer schedule it'll probably get tuned into at some point.
Thanks for the heads-up Ms. Anthrope.
This has great potential.
Anna Torv = me sold hell
Anna Torv = me sold
hell yes, i wish my accent was as hot as hers damn it.
cause the best thing in life is chicks
Stoked
Stoked.
Originally Kate was supposed to be the lead on Lost until Fox and other bigwigs made him keep Jack... I'm really excited he went back for another go around with a female lead and she stuck! yay!
I think Fox could do good this fall... aside from returning shows, we also have Whedon's Dollhouse to look forward to in January... Dollhouse + Fringe + Bones + House + Sarah Connor = LOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVEEEEEE
Interviewer: "Why do you write these strong female characters?"
Joss Whedon: "Because you're still asking me that question." - Equality Now speech
If I'm borrowing your icon, I'd be happy to give you credit, just let me know! :)
Going to be the most anticipated show this year
I'm am sure this show is going to be great so much so that i created a blog LOL. From what i have read the trailers i have seen everything points towards it being a smash hit.
You can visit my blog for info:www.watchfringe.blogspot.com
The edge of my seat
was where I stayed most of the time when I was watching the leaked pilot episode. I was like "Whoa!" I gotta say, this is good, from what I've seen. It's definitely one show I am looking forward to seeing more.
I am excited, after the pilot. Let's hope Fringe can keep it up.
LOVED IT!!!!!!
I was just about to start a forum for this show! I LOVED IT!!!!! Then again for me to like shows like this doesn't take much. I love the sci-fi/cop thing! And Anna Torv is amazing, although I do have some complaints: Her not having an english accent, and her sleeping with a man, and not making out with Shelley Conn!!! Bummers! lmao
Also, and I hate to say it, I do feel like Joshua Jackson's character is very similar to Pacey on Dawson's Creek. Which doesn't really bother me cause I love Pacey but it's not exactly a good thing since he played Pacey.
Tegan Q.: I can't confirm or deny that Sara exist, I think the real question here is, does it matter? Feel me Sara huh? Feel it, snap!YEAH!...I mean if Sara exist, which she doesn't.
