Feist rocks "The Colbert Report"First, a disclaimer. The official Feist idolator (I hope that's an actual word) around here was the fondly missed scribegrrrl, as you might remember. Obviously, these are very big shoes to fill, but I'll give it my best shot: I. Love. Feist. Love, love, love. Looove.
Want proof? She's coming to my neck of the woods on June 11 and I have had the ticket for months. And I can hardly keep myself from running to the venue right now and sleeping there to get a front row seat. The only reason I don't do that? I have to blog for AfterEllen.com, obviously! Well, and I'm sane too. (Also, I'm going to a Cat Power concert on May 26, so I'm sleeping there first.) The lovely Leslie chatted with Stephen Colbert on Monday for a few minutes only, but that was quite enough to make me like her even more. First of all, her outfit. She looked absofreakinlutely fantastic. Seriously, a tie and a vest? No wonder Colbert told her, "So you swing both ways." He was actually talking about her dual citizenship (she's a citizen of both the U.S. and Canada), but we can still dream, right? Colbert tried to understand what kind of an indie singer-songwriter Feist is, as he said he discovered her "in a little out-of-the-way club I call an iPod commercial." Heh. He then asked her if he should call her Feist or Leslie or Leslie Feist, to which she answered, "As long as you call me, Stephen Colbert, you can call me anything you want." Lucky %#$$&! Feist and Colbert have a nice interaction, but it's way too short. Still, it's worth watching, so go ahead:

Oh Feist! So much love. So much respect. So much time spent listening to your songs on repeat.
I saw this Colbert Report - I see most of them - but I made special care to tape it on my DVR...

...that glorious songbird! She just gets more awesome at every turn! I love the bit of genderbending with the clothing - with respect to both Feist & Colbert. And gawd, I do love a gorgeous woman in a tie.

I LOVE FEIST
I could not believe that
I could not believe that nobody reacted to the "now I know I wanna stop the war" line!?!?! I was freakin out excited when I heard that line... and not a single cheer from the audience...
Maybe everybody was just too entranced by those beautiful sounds coming from that beautiful woman
A lot...
...to answer that question.
Dammit, she's funny. Really good at not getting too flustered by Stephen Colbert, which I feel happens a lot...which is always entertaining...but she totally throws back the wit.
Ever since I first saw the 1234 video I thought it would be the crowning achievement of my career to participate in one of her big group videos. How much fun do those look? There's gotta be a way

ditto with the Feist love
I've got to add to the Feist love. I became infatuated after "Let it Die" and while I always liked her version of Ron Sexsmith's "Secret Heart", I didn't love it until I saw this live version from a fabulous session she (and her band -who deserve honourable mention) did in Paris. I stumbled upon it on youtube and each and every track is worth a serious listen:

Add the whole of "The Reminder" and her work with Broken Social Scene to the mix (not to mention the fact that she is incredibly sexy!) and...I'm hooked.
Feist is absolutely brilliant!
Feist is an amazing musician! My Canadian friend introduced her to me with My Moon, My Man, and I was hooked forever! She imparts such raw emotion through her songs, I love it. I would give anything to see her live! Go figure, the closest she came to being in my neck of the woods was Fuji Rock and I happened to be in the states at the time, gutted!
Also, I loved how Stephen Colbert used non gender specific pronouns when talking about loved ones toward the end of the interview. Good on him for not assuming heterosexuality!
