Another Friday, another opportunity to look at beautiful women from around the worldActually, my suggestions are probably unnecessary, since last year's AfterEllen.com Top 100 already had a lot of international beauty in it. Looking at the top 10, we can find two British women (Kate Winslet and Lena Headey), a Mexican (Salma Hayek), an American born in Panama (Jordana Brewster) and a Texas native with an Iranian father and a Spanish mother (Sarah Shahi). My point is: If this doesn't help you choose your top 10, you can just gawk — it's Friday! PopCrunch's list has a lot of interesting choices, such as Laetitia Casta (France), Rebecca Romijn (USA), Bar Rafaeli (Israel) or Milla Jovovich (Ukraine), but I must say their taste in pictures is rather poor. Was this really the best Jovovich picture you could find?
I'll help you out:
I did enjoy the list, however. I was pleasantly surprised with a few gorgeous women I didn't know, such as Daniela Pestova (Czech Republic) and Federica Ridolfi (Italy), and I also applauded the inclusion of my countrywoman Cláudia Vieira (Portugal), who is quite hot. The No. 1 spot went to Brazilian model Adriana Lima, but I must say I was rooting for the woman who ended up in second place, Heidi Klum (Germany). Now, if I were making that list, there would be some substitutions. So, guess what, here they are: Gisele Bündchen (Brazil) Move over Adriana Lima, because Gisele is the hottest Brazilian woman in town. This picture is my only argument.
Lena Olin (Sweden)
If you saw Lena as a bad, good, now I'm bad again, now I'm good again, now I'm definitively bad character in Alias, you know she is one sexy spy. And, even as a 53-year-old woman, she is way hotter than Sweden's girl on the list, Paulina Porizkova Juliette Binoche (France)
I also considered the lovely Audrey Tatou, but did you see Binoche's pictures for Playboy? Ça suffit. Famke Janssen (Holland)
Who on earth is Doutzen Kroes (Holland's girl on the list) next to Famke? Or should I say Phoenix (from X-Men)? Also, I knew there was a reason I had to go to Holland. Penélope Cruz (Spain)
You have to like Penélope. She's so nice, she even helps out her brother get started in the music business. I'm curious to see her next to Scarlett Johansson in Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona, coming out in September. If only the story was based on her brother's video clip ... There's always been a certain...I don't know, just something about the women I have a thing for lol. I wouldn't know what to call it, but I'm sure you all know exactly what I'm talking about.

Italian women
Being Italian, i'm honestly disappointed to see Federica Ridolfi, since there are a lot of Italian women way more beautiful and interesting than her. Giovanna Mezzogiorno, Valeria Golino, Violante placido, Laura Chiatti and Alessandra Martinez (Italian readers have to remember Fantaghirò, where she plays a princess that defies her father the king and learns how to fight and dresses as a man), just to name a few. I'm really disappointed.

I remember a thing called feminism. I remember a time not so long ago when "girl" was spelled "grrrl" and we decided to riot. I remember when we loved women for their strength, their power. I remember when we eschewed images of sexualised, skeletal, perversely pre-pubescent models twisted, primped and posed for the male gaze. I remember a thing called feminism.
Looks like AE needs to remember its roots too. Sure, you can pander to tabloid populism. But you can also retain the integrity of your feminist roots by rejecting old style, new-wave sexism like this.

While you make a great point, let me play Devil's Advocate.
Yes, I hope all people, regardless of gender or orientation, would judge others by their characters, personalities, intellect, sense of humour, accomplishments, etc. - "What's Inside" rather than exteriors.
However, humans, by their nature, are visual beings, and articles like these simply acknowledge this fact - and Yes, it's a form of pandering, but for 99.9% of us, these women will never be anything but fantasies - Call it "Good, Clean, Fun" or “Guilty Pleasure” - and thanks to your comment, we'll all feel a little guilty for our superficiality, and remember that there's more to these women than their looks and figures. I might point out that most posts also include descriptions of these ladies' many various talents and accomplishments. Ignoring or not acknowledging the reality of our human nature doesn't change attitudes – recognizing that we're humans with the ability to think and reason beyond our 'base instincts' does.
I certainly hope no-one here would choose a partner based on looks alone; we recognize there's much more to people than their appearance – For example, I adore Rachel Maddow - She's a Rhodes Scholar, Smart, Funny, a Feminist, an AIDS Activist, Political Commentator on AirAmerica, Ultra-Liberal, but most of the Radical Right still like and respect her, but all of that said...She's Still HOT! She and I will probably never even meet, much less get together, but I still watch MSNBC to see her! ...and I respect her 'non-physical' attributes, too.
I'm fairly new here, but from what I've seen, AE gives coverage to many diverse points of view, but mostly 'Grrrl Power', in it's many varied forms, including a little superficiality! In this article, I admire the fact that the focus is DIVERSITY - not only Americans and Europeans shown here - Athletes, women of colour, and 'older' women are all represented - Not 'all-encompassing' of course, but the emphasis is on diversity.

I agree with most of that. Furthermore, I'd like to ask if it's really "anti-feminist" to find a strong woman asthetically beautiful, especially when the mainstream/popular forms of 'beauty' are almost the opposite.
When Afterellen 'reclaimed' the concept of the top 100 hottest women from the ultra-mysogynist-objectifier-antichrist known as Maxim, I thought it was pure genius. If you go and take a look at that list you'll find many women of deep character, strength, and humanity. You'll also find it to be uniquely feminist in that it was selected exclusively by women.
Afterellen works very hard to celebrate women in sports, entertainment, politics, and of all shapes and colours. I have seen more visual minority lesbians on this website than I would EVER see in mainstream media. And even past that, they shatter stereotypes left and right (women aren't funny, lesbians are always angry, etc.).
You may find this one article objectifying, and I won't get into the 'do women transform the male gaze' thing, but to insinuate that AE is anti-feminist is mind boggling to me.
