The Top 10 (Hottest) Female VillainsNow that Lord Voldemort has returned, I've been thinking about villains lately. In particular, sure, He Who Must Not Be Named is scary, but why is it that male villains are usually so unattractive? What is it about evilness that makes male villains turn into hairless, unicorn blood-drinking tyrants with no fashion sense? (See Darth Vader for another option: still hairless, but that helmet clearly makes him fashion-challenged.) Female villains, on the other hand, tend to be uniformly hot (and sometimes uniformed). Maybe it's because the female villain partly emerges from the long (and, dare I say it, glorious) tradition of the dominatrix: She'll whip your ass, and she'll look fantastic while doing it. And no, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Without further ado, here are my top 10 female villains: 10. Jordana Brewster as Lucy Diamond in D.E.B.S. Clad all in black and bent on world domination, Lucy Diamond doesn't let her previously foiled plots (including an attempt to sink Australia) get her down. In D.E.B.S., she sets her sights on D.E.B.S. agent Amy (Sara Foster), and she quickly succeeds in seducing her.
Here's a (mysteriously silent) video of Lucy smooching Amy:
9. Demi Moore as Madison Lee in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle All you need to know about this villainess is encapsulated in this photo:
8. Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada Yeah, Miranda Priestly's kind of the boss from hell, but such a stylish, successful one! OK I admit it: Despite her cruel ways, I totally admire her. I mean, look at the attitude she projects!
7. Glenn Close as Marquise Isabelle de Merteuil in Dangerous Liaisons So scheming! So manipulative! So much cleavage! (Plus she can actually pull off that hat — no small feat!)
6. Sharon Stone as Catherine Tramell in Basic Instinct Now some people think that Catherine Tramell was just another in a long (stereotypical) line of bisexual killers, and OK, she was. But she was also vicious and dug into that villainy like nobody's business.
Pfeiffer's Catwoman was seductive and slinky, not to mention crafty — she fashioned herself that shiny vinyl catsuit out of a black raincoat, after all. I wonder where she bought her whip? Dommes R Us? Here's the trailer for the film with plenty of saucy Catwoman moments:
This Arnold action-fest first introduced the world to the outspoken, openly bisexual actress Kristanna Loken, who proved that she was plenty willing and able to take on one of Hollywood's biggest action stars by playing the deadly T-X. Here's the trailer for the film, with lots of T-X destruction:
3. Famke Janssen as Phoenix in X-Men: The Last Stand I was a big fan of Janssen's turn as Jean Grey, but things really got interesting when her seriously dark side came out as the psychotic Phoenix.
2. Hudson Leick as Callisto in Xena: Warrior Princess Back when Xena was still evil, she torched a village named Cirra; in that village was a young girl, Callisto, who suffered an extreme case of PTSD from losing her family in that experience. As she grew up, she became a crazy psychopath bent on destroying Xena. She also got herself a particularly S/M-like outfit but balanced that with flat-heeled boots (very practical). 1. Alyson Hannigan as Evil Willow in Buffy the Vampire SlayerThere's nothing like losing your lesbian lover to make you go all black-eyed and veiny. Willow's deep, demented descent into the dark side was both heartbreaking and breathtaking. And in the midst of all the pain that drove her to despair, Hannigan even made it seem like Willow was having some fun with it. Here's a fanvid of Willow's evillest moments:

Disagree
Faith
Yep, I'd add her to the list lol. Cos bad ass Faith was awesome :D
Faith!
The Real Villain.
FAITH!
I seem to remember Faith having a rather long stint as evil, and surely any excuse to put up pictures of Eliza should be taken!
I second that, ann 82! I was pretty surprised that Faith wasn't on this list! Not to mention bummed out, because Eliza is a total hottie!
WHOA....
yes
Callisto!
Willow... pffft
(Hottest) Female Villains? Oh, yeah, Willow, you know, that one time that she did that thing that was like *way* evil?
Hottest 100 Women? That chick, you know, the one that played Willow. Willow was so hot.
Hottest Swiss Goat-Herder? Willow - she would look so hot if she ever pulled on the costume and gave goat-herding a go. Heidi would totally have nothing on her!
Okay, so maybe the last one was a little made-up, but I wouldn't think any less of AE's abilities to fill up random lists if it did appear here. Willow - I'm sick of her! Move on! (Please?!)
Well, musicgeekgirl...
...because i'm not familiar withalf of the listees ~
hmm...i would pick Famke Janssen to be Number 1 ~ because i like older women o(^_^)o and of what i've seen from Willow, i think Phoenix is a much more menacing character than thEvil Willow...but i'm no witch expert ;^p
and i do believe that Jordana Brewster's character earns its Number 10 spot because that role, in fact, was justoo nice. She played a "villian" but not enough malice, therefore, not a Villian; plus it was a very humorous film o(^_^)o so i have to agree with Malinda Lo+on that one! ;^)

My top 10
I thought long and hard about this and came up with a top 10 list of my own... came back to check out comments and was surprised to see that almost all of my top 10 had been mentioned by AE readers. So here we go - musicgeekgrrl's Top 10 (Hottest) Female Villains:
10. Sinead Laren (played by Katharine Towne) in But I'm A Cheerleader
Not because she's a gun-toting super-villain type hottie, but cause she lets her jealousy control her to the point that she has a reasonably negative impact upon the lives of people around. Bad Sinead, bad!
9. Baroness Rodmilla De Ghent (Anjelica Huston) in Ever After
I can't remember the exact quote, but: "Did you ever love me, step-mother?" "How can you love the pebble in your shoe?" Ouch.
8. Poison Ivy (Uma Thurman) in Batman and Robin
Geek gone nasty! Poison Ivy was the only reason to watch this movie - visually stunning, but not just a pretty face.
7. Typhoid (Natassia Malthe) in Elektra
A woman whose kiss could kill - I know a few people like that, too, only the ones I know are nowhere near as hot as Typhoid.
6. The White Witch (Tilda Swinton) in The Chronicles of Narnia
I loved her hair, I loved her coldness of character, and I loved that she reminded me of the Ice Queen (my favourite story when I was about 6). She had no redeeming "human" characteristics (empathy, fear, compassion) and I loved her all the more for it.
5. Madison Lee (Demi Moore) in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle
One of two character's to be borrowed from your list, Malinda, because yes, she's pretty freaking hot.
4. Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter) in HP: Order of the Phoenix
I was won over by the sometimes-catlike movements, the dark stare, and the absolute lunacy. But, no, I wouldn't want to meet her in a dark alley.
3. Lucy Diamond (Jordana Brewster) in D.E.B.S.
*Sigh* Gay and villainish. She's like the hot Frau Farbissina, cept that Lucy's in charge and Frau was too busy helping to continue Dr. Evil's bloodline to be anything more than a minion.
2. O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu) in Kill Bill: Vol. 1
Lucy Liu. Swords. Combat. Need I say more?
1. Lola (Kate Nauta) in The Transporter 2
Pretty freaking scary, but (marginally) hotter than fear-inducing. If I had my way, the movie poster would be prominently displayed in my bedroom and I would be allowed to kiss it every night before I go to sleep. The girlfriend is not amused.
Eh? What?
Oh sorry. I thought someone was talking about me.
Aaaah, Music geek. You hit he nail on the head. Indeed, add the enitre Buffy-thing to your rant and I'd agree totally.
Very cool avatar, by the way. Very cool.
Love Pussy xx
If the lists were just lesbians
Hottest lesbian villains
Hottest lesbian characters
Hottest lesbian superheroes
Hottest lesbian geeks
Willow would have to be on there...'cause well, there aren't a whole heck of a lot lesbian characters to choose from. And it's worth noting, there's a lesbian character dynamic enough to make several female specific lists. If AfterEllen were making just lesbian lists...they'd be way shorter.
So many questions...
I loved
Pre-gay Willow! She was my favorite character.
In fact, I think I might have begun to like her a little less in the post-Oz years.
Jordana
i can think of many...
Maleficent, from "Sleeping Beauty", Niki Sanders' alter ego on Heroes, and even if we'll have to rely on imagination for this one, im pretty sure Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca is really hot
Yes! Maleficent!!
She was my first first cursh when I was real little!(I just didn't know it at the time)
"Apparently, some people have a problem with me saying awesome things"- Olivia Munn
meh
how about this one?
Hot?
Female?
Villain?
No?
Not Only But Also
LOL!!! This is really funny!
lesbian without borders
Yumm
mmm... evil Gabrielle
Famke Janssen was also
I definitely agree! I was
I don't know, kinda seems to
I don't know, kinda seems to me that to be in the top ten, you need to be a full time villain, and have a passion for your work, not just a bit of a nihilist streak (I'm looking at you Phoenix and Evil Willow).
So I would go with Mystique from the X-Men movies: revels in her villainy, dresses in blue paint - what's not to love? (and girl gets things done, she pretty much carried their whole evil organization for two movies)
A few others for consideration: Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/57/Harleyivy.jpg - come on!), and for pure style, can't go wrong with O-Ren Ishii.
Oh yeah, and Number Six (duh), or Admiral Cain - take your pick.
ooh
o-ren ishii. nice.

'twas brillig, and the slithy toves
did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
all mimsy were the borogoves,
and the mome raths outgrabe
Agreed
Yeah, Dark Phoenix isn't so much a villain as someone who is seriously messed up. But Mystique? Pure evil, even towards her son (at least in the comics), Nightcrawler.
As for the BSG girls--I don't know if any of them could really be villains either. They're all so conflicted and can sometimes do very good things. Cain just seemed like she was unhinged after what happened, and Six...well, Six is one extremely advanced Cylon. Both of her side, Caprica and Gina, seemed to exhibit some remorse for what they had done. Even D'Anna, who I expected to become truly psychotic, turned out to just want to be doing some good for the world in the end. Then again, on a show where you never know who the bad guys really are, it's difficult to pinpoint a villain; I could just as well claim Laura Roslin is a villain because of her willingness to throw people out airlocks, blow up civilian carriers, and illegally reinstate herself as president. Same goes for Starbuck and Tigh's wife.
Who would I pick? Harley Quinn, though so far she's only appeared in comic and TV form. O-Ren, as you mentioned, as well as Darryl Hannah's character from the Kill Bill movies. Jessica from Heroes (obvs). Juliet from Lost (also another ambiguous villain, though). And a whole slew of anime characters, because for some reason the majority of the female villains I can think of come from anime--Sailor Moon's Galaxia and Neherenia, Fushigi Yuugi's Yui, Utena's Juri, Shiori, and Anthy, etc.
"Out of the box is where I live." -Starbuck
Phoenix a bad girl?
Hope, of course, should have
Hope, of course, should have ranked. The grown up one, played by Renee, obviously.
And do I really have to say why?
Hm, thought so. =)
glenn close
A Few Others
Rachel McAdams as Regina George in Mean Girls
Lara Flynn Boyle as Serleena in Men in Black II
Rebecca Romijn as Mystique in X-Men
Daryl Hannah as Elle Driver in Kill Bill
Okay, I'm done...I feel like sparring now! :D
YES
You nailed Rachel McAdams and Daryl Hannah, for sure.
Love the Villians
Xena was the DESTROYER OF NATIONS and the ultimate villian
If you watched Xena for all six season's, there were more than a few episodes where they show Xena as the Destroyer of Nations, and the Evil Empress -- sexy and evil villians incarnate. You should have included XENA on this list!!
I also think Jordana Brewster should have been near the top as far being classified as a hot villian. I think about 99 percent of lesbians on the planet would 'do' Jordana Brewster or her characer, Lucy Diamond. I'm also agree with the gal that said that Willow isn't hot -- she's sort of cute but NOT hot. Just because an actress plays a lesbian on TV doesn't make her hot ...
its about time someone mentioned this!
People often forget before Xena was a hero (specifically an anti-hero) she was a villain on Hercules with subsequent flashback episodes on X:WP. She's the best.
And I totally agree about Willow. I was surprised and wierded out that people actually thought of her as "sexy" or "hot". Samething with Gabrielle. I don't see it.
its true
xena should have made the list herself! ^_^ She's plenty evil. Plus I'd bet she's killed thousands more people than willow has ... if we're equating evilness to the amount of innocent people that died at the various villians' hands.
And yes, Jordana Brewster is hot... she should have been number one! ^_^
helena bonham carter as
SRSLY.
I thought that a blog about female villians which starts by mentioning Voldemort would include the first female Death Eater named in the series (and the only woman identified as such until HBP).
I just got back from seeing OotP (FINALLY) and the first thing I said when Bellatrix was shown, in Azkaban, was, "still hot." HBC can play the crazy hag really well, but she's still really hot somehow. I don't know why! She just is.
Helena!
Double post :X My bad.
Double post :X My bad.
For real.
I'm a huge fan of the bad girls in everything I see -- something about a chick who's pure evil and totally off her rocker gets me every time -- and out of everything I've ever seen, nobody has been as sinisterly sexy as Bellatrix Lestrange as played by Helena B.
And I'm with everyone else who gave a big "HUH?!" to Lucy Diamond being #10. Come on. COME ON.
girl of 100 lists
malinda, you're going crazy with all these awesome top 10 lists! i'm going to call you the "girl of 100 lists" -- that song, by the go-go's, is all you.

Also...
....
Evil exes anyone?
I meant 'mates'
Yay! Lists!
I like the list! I would have put Lucy higher and Willow lower, but that is just me. Callisto seems evil enough but I'm reminded right away why I could never get into Xena.
As for women to add:
Someone mentioned Six (Battlestar Galactica) and I 100% agree.
Even if she merely annoyed me through most of it. I will always remember the baby she killed in the Mini Series.
Okay, so I can't say ' hot' exactly but this woman haunted my childhood.
Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmatians.
And then there is the Evil Queen form the 10th Kingdom. I couldn't find a decent pic to save my life so this will have to do.
And last but not least (even though she did kinda go good in the end... oh, and died):
She's on a mission to kill all vampires and in the novels she convinces women to kill their husbands because she believes men are the root of all evil:
Akasha from 'Queen of the Damned' , played in the movie by Aaliyah.
(ignore the guy)
EDIT: Forgot one and how could I have?!
