In The Lo-Down's second fake news show, Sarah P. and I report on Paris Hilton's L Word partying, heterosexual WBNA players, and advances in gaydar techologies. Plus, we pay homage to our sisters in the struggle by reading from the 1972 lesbian feminist classic, Lesbian/Woman. (Seriously, you've gotta read this book!)
In this week's Crock P.O.C. we delve into such hot topics as ... well, you'll just have to watch to find out! Thanks to everyone who contributed ideas last week for our vlog; we even incorporated some of them (in slightly modified format) into this week's episode (specifically, thanks to lashun, spotticus and Ottoman Empress). If you have suggestions for future Crock P.O.C. topics or for (fake) celezbrity guests, let us know in the comments! Submitted by on January 21, 2008 - 3:30pm. |

Haven't even watched the whole vlog yet...
fakefemale newsreaders!!Great
Some feedback and praise.
*I really like the new themesong and the opening
* The random reading from the book is a great idea - please keep it as a feature
*I really like your special guests. Since it's the time of the year for Australian Open I was hoping that you might invite a tennisplayer.
Thanks for another great instalment, once again you made my evening so much more fun. And Sarah I loved your waistcoat, it was very beautiful.
For a merrier life, befriend the elephant in your room.
Very cool book find
I love that you found that book so randomly - I'm glad you're reading from it. Maybe you could get one of them to do guestbian spot at some point - they're still around, aren't they?
I also love both of your tastes in clothing this time around, in totally different ways - y'all look fine. :)
I hope that your future newscasts may include reenactments of prominent news stories, possibly with more guest commentaries.
“Geeky lesbian scientist
“Geeky lesbian scientist in the corner, probably the one wearing glasses”
Well shit, I think you just described me to a t. I’m not sure whether to be offended, or grateful for all the potential gaydar-curious ladies to come my way.
The book seems
very interesting. Please read a portion to us every week.
I'm sorry if I sound dumb/ignorant...but I'm not out yet so there's alot of lesbian terms that I don't know. What exactly is UHaul (in lesbian term)? I've been hearing this term many times here but I don't know what that means...
honestly Bab..
if you've ever wanted to totally be roomates with any person you had an interest in or someone has mentioned this to you THE ACT of showing up one day at said door with all ur
sh*tworldly possessions is considered U-hauling it.i'm not sure if that's my gaydar or my fire alarm ringing but,its hot as hades in here......."ladyj"
Ahh..
Loving ya
Totally loving the lo-down, this one was funner and nicer and then the last hope you keep it up!
Keep the reading its fun. Lesbian bedtime story-telling XD.
And homo-twin freaks me out too... I dont mind if they have little similarities but yeah...not digging it.
Oh and both of you are looking sublime! Have a weakness for the banker outfit thought ;)
I'm sure someone asked this before, but are you two dating? Because you looks so cute and natural together.
To answer your question ...
Shane vs Butch
I guess Shane will either be at the top of your butch list this year to piss Kate M off or not mentioned at all.
I am not sure what she was trying to say. At first, I thought she was saying that fashion and clothes don't make a girl butch. In re-reading the comment, I think she got lost in her own statement. Maybe the ADD from lack of sex from episode 503 has effected Kate M.
Not knowing Kate M. personally, I don't know if she was being offensive or unable to make a point?
I thought Sarah W. put a ban on Paris H. Please, do not mention her again.
Good for you Sarah P. for knowing the first lesbian couple who was married in San Francisco. There are some great articles out about this couple. As you both are lesbian's in San Francisco you may want to check out the history of this couple. They have started or have been a part of many lesbian organizations that have affected change for Lesbians in the Bay Area. I'm thinking I even saw a documentary that included their history.
I think i like girls who want me to tell them what to do.
1. Malinda, keep wearing those v neck tops. Sarah Shahi has her asset and you have yours.
2. More lesbian writer's, have a book section maybe even one before 1972.
3. I like "egrets" Idea of reenacting the news
Lo-Down Vlog is Improving
Hahaha! I'm glad you've mentioned the Homo twins. The first time encountered a set was back in the bar crawling days. I just turned 21 and went to my first Lesbian Bar in St. louis. I bet my best friend9straight female) $5 that I would get hit on. As as we walked through the door, after we presented our IDs, I got hit on by a drunk blond-haired womyn. She introduced to girlfriend. I swear upon Perez Hilton's blogs that her girlfriend was the spitting image of her. She was a blonde too.
It is so creepy to meet Lesbian couples who are alike. It's likea Twilight Zone thing man.
I'm feelin you on the theme song. Lovin you on the headlines. Diggin' the Lesbian Woman book. Like others, read us a piece of Lesbian history. Tell us what it was like back in the ol' school days of lesbian happenings. I, too, wasn't born yet. So give us the scoops.
Sara P. :U LOOK SMOKIN' HOT IN YOUR BANKER OUTFIT(whistles)
Malinda: U too funny, womyn
Did I ever say I would play nice?-Miss Ketina
It's creepier to meet het
I am glad.....
to be of assitant. I was cracking up. I like the theme music (way better than the l word). I have a surround sound hooked up to my computer so I got alittle jump when the music came on. Let me start with HELL YA!! Ban on Paris!! LU Rocks!! Secondly, I will send JULIA names and pictures of people I work with so she can send me an anylasis sheet and I can post it on my work bullentin board so all the straight women that divorced/seperated from there husbnd/boyfriends will STOP TRYING TO SLEEP WITH WOMEN! They arent even curious. There just freaks. Thirdly, that was a good story. I have to admit that I went off into my own world and when Malinda was reading it I got a gay version of Jack and Jill, more like Jasmine and Jill. I saw this whole 70's "Leave it to Beaver" scene and ...well... I can't really go into it cause this would be too long. I have a over active imagination. An-ty-how....I would like to be Shane but only to get someone like Sarah Shahi! (hotness!!!)
Ya'll looked really good!! It is nice...NICEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!
For the crocpot: Sarah Shahi, why is she not gay? 2.) Dani or Shane (just the character not Kate M)? 3.) Cat vs dogs lesbians is there a difference between them?IE: Do they obsess over them differently, more laid back person versus more active?
Haven't read the comments and...
I have 24min left of this vlog(!), but I have to tell you. MAN YOU'RE OFFENSIVE TODAY! From excluding people from the lesbian union to dissin' on all us gorgeous European ladies! In less than 5minutes! This might just go down in history.
..oh, maybe I should mention; I LOVE IT!
Indeed
I Have to agree. Kind of made me want to quit watching at several points... :(
"differentiate between gay people and Europeans?"
^care to explain/elaborate on what exactly is wrong with Europeans?
I really do enjoy your vlog but keep this (offensiveness? hatefulness?) up and I'm affraid you're gonna lose your viewers... :/
Huh?
C'mon, it's supposed to be funny.
That gaydar section totally cracked me up. It made me think of this website where you have to guess whether a woman is gay or just German. I lived in Germany for a while, and it's so true, half the women looked dykey to me.
More please!
Don't get me wrong, it
Don't get me wrong, it wasn't just that gaydar joke that disgruntled me. (somehow I partly have to agree with it even) It was just the feeling of generalisation in that statement and I lose any sense of humor when it comes to those.
Well, we're being sarcastic
Ok, let me explain.

Aside from that, I wasn't really offended (but I imagine someone could have been). Rather make that sad. Sad from the 'vibe of disliking' (for a lack of a better word) this episode sort of emanated ('we don't like this/that', 'we don't want her' etc). I mean sure, you can't like everything, but sometimes it felt kind of 'too much'. However not to sound so negative myself, I really liked the reading from the Tome o'Lesbian (somehow I feel Sara would manage even an interpretive dance about architecture).
Hope that cleared the air.
(if not, we could discuss this further via pm if you'd like?)
DASHING
Phyllis Lyon and Del
Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin! This is possibly my most favourite picture in the history of picture universe. Sorry it's so huge though, just don't know how to resize it.
Phyllis Lyon (left) and Del Martin, lesbian activists who have been together for 51 years, embrace after their marriage ceremony at San Francisco City Hall.
The Homo-twins
I think the word you guys were looking for about the homo-twins is Twincest. If it's not then it should be the new word to learn :D
TWINCEST~
Twincest Indeed!
That was exactly the word i'd heard for it, as described to me by a friend.
A year and a half ago I was informed that I very nearly had committed twincest. I was asked by three different people in the space of an afternoon if I was the sister of the first girl I'd ever fallen for. Now, I'd fallen for her two years prior to that time, and while she had been a slender brunette upon our first meeting, at the time of the near twincest incident, she was a blonde who'd put on a few punds.
Now, I'm a big girl, buxom blonde myself, and while I didn't realize it until someone had pointed out to me (or several someones), we did look rather familiar. Our personalities were also quite similar, and when the revelation hit me, I was a bit freaked out by it.
Luckily, after two years of some weird on-again, off-again twisted pseudo-relationship, it was finally put to rest for good. While I had inadvertantly fallen in love with a darker more troubled version of myself, I had also had the sense to finally see it for what it was. SO I agree with Malinda, homo-twincest is freaky, and I would go so far as to say it probably reflects some inner emotional issues.
:O
I guess real life twincest is freaky like that XD I plan to stay away from it.
And I actually prefer my twincest with fictional characters in video games and anime hehe.
Only if it were true
The new theme is a good including the music, style, and presentation. The gaydor bit was funny; you should go further with that. Report incidents where a person's gaydor was busted or how tell how well your gaydor is working. Most anyone agrees the reading bit was nice. I think you should also explore more in-depth with the whole u-haul thing. What common things you think that lead to u-hauling and how to avoid this cycle. You can create a commitee against or for u-hauling.
Serious question wonder why straight people never going through the u-haul cycle or do straight people call it something else.
Another Great One!
Great Job! I loved the new theme music, and totally digging the outfits!
I would like to say that I would never date Shane, and no I don't want to be her either! I am right there with you on those choking sounds! =-)
Can't wait for next week!
Keep it up...
Love the new theme song!
Had to laugh at the 'Gaydar' news especially after the L Word's opening segment last Sun. I wonder if Apple can put that into the new iPhone??
The 'BOOK'was great!
I think both characters on Cashmere are adorable and sweet and wish they would get more air time.
Sarah P.'s "interpretive dance"
Yes!
The interpertive dance was hiliarious! And I love the segment with the croc poc, it's my favorite. Great job on a very funny v-log!
You're both awesome
Geeky is always good
Oh yeah, I definitely second that: do more geeky stuff.
Geeky is always good!
Loved the Vlog btw. Very funny. Very entertaining.
I am totally in favor of the
topics for the crock poc
Geek here...
The password is... Hydrogen
Sorry to reveal the secret!
My Crock-POC suggestions:
- The Children's Hour (do you think Audrey Hepburn could have been a lesbian)
- Phyllis Kroll- opinion about older women?
- U-HAULING fact or myth?
- Saving face
Okay! That's it for now. BTW is it okay if I start a Lo-down fan appreciation facebook group? Geez I bet someone is going to beat me to it now...
Awesomeness!
I love everything about your vlog; it makes me laugh hysterically every time (and I bet my roommate wonders what I'm watching).
Very dramatic theme music! I personally was a fan of Sarah P.'s take on the news theme music because it cracked me up, but I do think that it's funnier as a one time thing.
As for the whole "dating yourself" creepiness, I don't think that it has anything to do with gender at all. Have you all seen those eHarmony commercials? That freaks me out. The couples (all incredibly straight) look like they're brother and sister. My best friend has been asked more times than I can count if her brother is her boyfriend, and I think it's because people expect couples to be similar.
Anyway, thanks for the vlog, and I love Sarah's banker outfit!
Bi-law 568.7 section c
Thanks for providing a few minutes of lesbian haven each week. It's fantastic.
There are a couple of things I would love to see in the Crock P.O.C-
Rants and Raves about your favorite lesbians (or queer of some sort) of color who are authors, artists, musicians, etc. Tell us about your favorite classic folks, and introduce folks to people we should know and likely don't.
Since the L-Word came up, I'd like to see commentary on their continual avoidance of race issues, especially in terms of inter-racial dating.
Keep it up!
This was such a good
This was such a good episode!
1) Banker outfit = hot like fiyah! Damn! Can I take out a loan? Scratch that, I think I'd rather try on the dog collar ;).
2) Thanks for talking abut Alicia/Lourdes!! She is sooo gorgeous!
3) Why all the Shane hate? She's not a fake butch she's androgynous and I love my andro women as much as my butches. Altho, I was a little irked by that comment in the AE interview. I think Sarah P. pretty much summed up the Shane thing perfectly (eventho I sooo would do Shane ... or Kate!).
4)Someone above mentioned something about lesbian lawyers. I'm a second year queer law student so yeehaw!
5)You guys have great chemistry on screen. It was extra funny today for some reason.
6) I'm sooo not into Twincest or whatever. I don't mind for other couples, but I love dating someone with a different look or different personality or something than I have. It just adds a certain ... spice, lol.
On that note, someone mentioned above about race issues and interracial dating. I've dated 1.5 (don't ask, lol) women of a different race than myself and one man of a different race (I'm black), and while there certainly were problems in some of those relationships, they didn't stem from race. Race can certainly be a problem in interracial relationships, but it certainly doesn't have to be. Just my two cents.
clarification
First of all, should have been more clear in my comment, sorry.
I do not believe that inter-racial relationships are inherently fraught with race related problems. The causes of any problems in any relationship depend on the individual people who are involved in the relationships.
I was trying to point to what I see as the L Word's avoidance of race issues in any sort of substantial sense. Some episodes (especially in the first season) brush on a bit of race-related stuff here and there, but never have anything particularly engaging to say. (Especially considering the whole Papi fiasco.) Now a number of the plot lines include interracial relationships which could provide some long standing opportunities to discuss some race issues. (Kit and Bette's long standing sisterhood has also afforded such opportunities, or, had they been so bold, they could have discussed their whiteness (and their lack of diversity), back when the cast was mostly white-whiteness is not "neutral").
As it is now, it seems that there are no racial tensions in the L.A. lesbian community and that the community has been found some sort of happy homogeny.
Then again, it is simply a evening, lesbian soap opera, so maybe I'm expecting too much.
And now I've either clarified where I was coming from, or made things worse...
You've clatified! And I
You've clatified! And I agree with you, especially on the Bette and Kit thing and the "we're all one big lesbian happy family" thing.
Thanks for taking the time to respond:)
Wonderful suggestions!
Thanks you guys for your fabulous suggestions for the Crock P.O.C. and other segments. Thanks also for all the love -- I'm sure Sarah's currently trying to figure out how many other "banker outfits" she has in her closet.
My random comments on your comments:
Lo & Princess
You know, when Malinda first said it, I immediately had this vision...Victorian times, Malinda scrubbing the floors, trying to patch some raggedy old clothes (just so that/) and Princess over there, in her own world, polishing her acting skills, trying out some new banker suit... Every time the image pops up in my mind I can't stop laughing! Sorry Sarah, you might not like it, but Princess (especially when Malinda says it) just suits you.
Back to the real world, erm, I was wondering why don't you guys vlog about Cashmere Mafia and the new British series Mistresses (the actress who goes gay is of asian descent and this is not her first gay role to date). I mean, I know there are or will be written recaps about the shows, but I still want to hear your banter about it. It's more about what you girls make of them than the shows themselves. Or in other words, what good is it to have gay things on TV if you can't get M & Princess to vlog about it!
In the same vein of thought, talking about gay women of colour of all times would be fantastic. Ya know, a bit of education. Princess can do the historical reenactments.
Oh Munky, How You have Wronged Me!
Your vision of Malinda and I in Victorian times is hysterical!! Hmmm, perhaps a re-enactment of your vision would make a very interesting vlog.
Regarding "Princess" - you are correct - I do not like it. However, "Sarah" actually means "Princess" and since my poor mother went out of her way to adopt a little girl to dress up in frilly things and have tea parties with and ended up with a tomboy/butch dyke like myself, I figure the least I can do is keep the name she gave me.
So Princess it is. That's Mr. Princess if you're nasty!
Sarah P.
Race...
is something that TLW hits and misses on. I think it might have been on another blog but a commentor was saying why does all the bad stuff happen to Kit and the way they make her talk and why does Tasha have to be so angry, (I think it was the last WGN vlog, I could be wrong) like they stereotype certain characters. That is a great discussion.
Sarah P...
You are hot and could (really should) have Shane's level of lesbian interaction.
Shane can be a gift but only when it comes to sex, the hair needs help...
Love the bankers outfit, it makes you even hotter
Homo-twins are scary...
Subject for the Crock P.O.C:
Black lesbian or Black non-lesbian (my friends seem to think i have the special list of them all or its a trick)
TALK ABOUT....
the difference b/w coming out to a hispanic family, mexican, korean, european, anything, i don't care, compare them all!!
what do you think the view on homosexuality will be a 100 years from now ???
do you think Alexander the great's vision of the whole world unified as one mixed multicultural, in peace nation could be possible some day??? ...... And could it last?????
how do you think livng in that world would be??
i think no conflict AT ALL will eventually get kind of boring
Twincest...
yeah, that really freaks me out, in hetero or homo relationships. Like on Exes and Ohs how both characters are named...dang, i forget, but either way, when i first heard that, it sounded weird and turned me off to their characters. I mean as if screaming you're own name in bed isn't weird enough, having to have sex with someone that looks like you?! Ewwww.
And, may i say, Sarah P. you looked extra HOTTTTTT in this vlog. Keep wearing those suits! ::fans herself::
<3
Gaydar
Its so true about the Europeans!!! My gaydar fails miserably here in England, not just English people, also the flux of Europeans that are here. The gestures, vibes and outlook of a lesbian-like woman here can well be straight, married with kids!!
