Showtime announces "L Word" spinoff in the worksThis afternoon at the Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles, Showtime entertainment president Robert Greenblatt announced that L Word creator Ilene Chaiken is currently developing a spinoff to the series, which will air its sixth and final season in early 2009.
Greenblatt said that shooting will begin on the spinoff directly after production wraps on Season 6, and it will star one of the actors from The L Word in a crossover. Greenblatt also announced that Chaiken has decided that the end of Season 6 will include an open-ended component that will be carried onto the internet. If Showtime moves forward with the spinoff, that online story will segue into the new television series. The spinoff has not yet been titled.Submitted by on July 18, 2008 - 7:14pm. |

FIRST!!!??
FIRST!!!??
wow, that itself is a first.. and kept nearly happening today for many first time evers
well.. i couldn't see tLW truly being over.. wonder what character it'l be ppls? who dya think?
Ohemgee :$ I just had
Ohemgee :$ I just had to say, I love your moogle icon <3 *molests*
That and, wow, I never thought that would happen either. I can only hope it's Shane!! (I'd love for it to be Alice but like some people have said, she's got her band. And Kate Moennig could do with a lift in her career :D)
Well...
zomg a Maka-Maka avie!
But anyway yeah probably Shane or Jenny I think. >.<
thanks :) i love
thanks :) i love moogles
and I agree, I'm sure Leisha's mentioned tha it was tough juggling her acting with her music and it wouldn't be fair on her bandmate Camilla really..
Also there'd have to be a really good reason for one of them to leave LA/stay but with other charcaters never shown.. because theyre such good friends.. it just wouldn't be realistic/fit with continuity otherwise.. and TLW is always so careful about that!... oh wait.. but yeah.. prolly not one of the main characters.. more like someone who is a bit of an outsider already
and Joey was always a pretty 2d character anyways.. plus Friends' scripts were so funny and intricate and parts weave together so well and the characters are often very original.. in fact i forgot how good it was, i hadnt watched for ages and then i watched the sir mixalot baby one the other day and remembered.. i think its just Friends is so good and for me seems to have always been around.. i can't imagine civilisation today without it!! that i usually fail to list it as a fave prog. cus its kinda taken for granted that ppl like it.. right?? anyhoo the Joey spinoff was nothing like Friends, they just took his character and made him worse with boring plots... spin-off's can work.. as with Angel as was pointed out.. (without which my favourite SPACED quote ever would not exist..)
anyhooo, im hoping the other characters have cameos :)
shane ;; jenny ;;max
bianca♥
i'm definately in love with kate;;*shane . so she get's my first vote.
but i also read her & leisha's interview with after ellen and she said
that she's working on a thriller movie . so i'm guessing she's taking on
a new direction wit her career now =( ily shane!!
jenny would make such a fukcnn awesome show .. we would be able
to go so much more indepth with her personality . it would be addicting to
watch her story line .. if jenny and shane hooks up in season six ;; maybe
i'll get to see more of shane =]
max maybe the one though.. but i like seeing the productive lifestyles of
women living openly with there sexuality im sad it's going to be over.
hopefully if it is max, they take it further with him so we can understand
his "transgendered lifestyle" like they did with the lesbian "lifestyle". because not many ppl from small towns know a trans person personally..Now that would be a
damn good story line..
i really can't decide who until i see season 6!i'd be happy to see a continuation either way. =]
what.
Shane's World! Shane plows through a new lover every week! Old L-Word stars will return on occasion to scold Shane and keep the L Word Fans glued to their TV sets.
Er...maybe not.
LMAO!!!
This could be a good idea! hahaha :D ^5's
Would be a good example for all the ones that are shanelike when it comes to that! XD
or Max...poor thing got ignored completely...
hmmmm...
Max?

Great news
Personally I think it's gonna be Mr. Piddles...
http://leishahaileyfans.blogspot.com
Mr. Piddles and TONYA!!!!
I'm Hooked Already!
I hope it's Shane or Max!!!
I believe Max is a compelling character and I would be over joyed if Ilene actually acted like she created a compelling character instead of ignoring Max all together!
Of course Shane is the character with the most layers and I think the most weight to carry to her own show. She's trying to start a new career, she's also the second youngest of them all and she has some growing up to do....she's got all the issues: Mommy, daddy, intimacy, commitment.....shall I go on....plus if Shane got her own show then we might still get to see Max since Shane was the only one that talked to him last season!!

max or shane
I def agree with you about Max... I think a spin-off based on him, too, would get rid of some of the criticisms that the L word faced, simply because he's more relatable.
I'm not sure that Shane would make a very interesting show on her own, because her character seems to be about repeating cycles... however, i guess it would work if she began to break out of them... idk
**crossing fingers**
She's got her own show
She's got her own show upcoming on Bravo, right? So probably not although it would be totally cool.
I'm hoping for Shane or Alice. Those are the most interesting characters and I think two of the most talented actresses.
DAWN DENBO, BITCH! I
DAWN DENBO, BITCH!
I would that so hard.
what keener project?? I thought that was still up in the air?
Agent Keener
Sounds awesome
Great news!
Hope it stars Leisha Haley!
Uh Huh, Her!
Loving Leisha
I'm with you on this one..however, I can't see Leisha being one of the characters to return for the spinoff for the simple fact that she'll be concentrating on her music career and other projects. IMO-I don't think it will be any of the main characters--I think they're over it and want to move on to bigger and better projects. If I had to guess, I would probably pick Daniela Sea or Pam Grier to return...but that's just me. I wish all the actresses the best of luck moving on to their future endeavors...At least they have blessed us with the ground-breaking series phenomenon known as TLW
http://leishahaileyfans.blogspot.com
Acting and likability
This is a real stumper because they can all obviously act. But if you take a closer look, they have taken the character of Alice through the entire range of emotions. Haley did such a beautiful job with each "frame of mind" while she remained true to the character of Alice, who is so likeable.
This woman has sex appeal, plutonic appeal, is up to any acting challange thrown at her, and makes you believe she is Alice. Granted, Uh Huh, Her is a good band with wonderful potential... but bands don't last as long as acting careers. Another thing is that this is a show about lesbians for lesbians and she is the only one that actually IS one of us, or at least is the only one that admits and isn't ashamed or fearlful to be out there, isn't she? PS those yogurt commercials she did were even great!
Helena
Helena, who gets a reality show about how many lesbians it takes to build and run a fancy hotel on a small island in the south pacific.
Basically, if Rachel Shelley's in it, I will watch it.
I'm with you, Helena and
I'm with you, Helena and Dusty *VBG* Along with Alice and Rose and they have got the makings of a hit!
Don't argue with a fool. The spectators can't tell the difference.
Yes
Helena
You're so right! Rachel is the only reason why I watch the L Word. Season 5 was quite boring without her. I missed her a lot! I hope we'll see more of her in season 6.
Cheers! =)
Ensemble
This is an ensemble show. None of these characters is on their own. No one of them will leave LA. Or their friends.
Except maybe Max, Papi or Jodi. Great.
Exactly.
Anyone remember Joey?
You can't split up an ensemble show (like Friends) and remove one character expecting them to carry the legacy of the old series all alone. It doesn't work. Has it ever?
Hmm.. still. I have mixed feelings.
Frasier
It can work; Fraiser - possibly a better comedy than Cheers to my mind - went on for 10 years. However, Joey is a good example that it can also fail, guess it depends on the talent of the writers and the charisma of the actors... so again it could go either way...
(Please don't make it Jenny. Please.)
It worked perfectly when
gal pals except Max?
Exactly why I assume it's Max. Basically, he's an outsider who moved to LA with his crazy girlfriend. The group would get along well without him.
That being said, Keener aka Dawn Denbo... I completely forgot about her. Seems plausible.

Wow
.
I think a spin off will be bad. No show will ever match The L word.
And I hope LC doesn't make season 6 bad. Hopefully it ends well.
It's either...
Although I wish it were Alice (highly doubtful), I think it'll either be Shane (most likely), Jenny, or DD.
Hear hear....
obviously there are a number of great characters in the show who could carry a spin off show ....
*whispers*
but I'm hoping that it'll be Tina
SHANE!!!
:S
shane
Should be interesting, heck
Should be interesting, heck I'm a little more interested in this then s6. It'll prolly star a newly yet to be introduced character.
-Nathiest
the devil is in the details
This reminds me. Papi's
Hmm...
hmm
im thinking shane or jenny.
Shane, because she has an interesting past. Living on the street and everything.
Or, maybe it won't be one of the original, or main characters?
Also, It would be either very interesting, or just a sad attempt. I'm hoping it will be good.
most likely a jenny
most likely a jenny spin-off ...
dear..whatever, but HELP US PLEASE! Thanks for the info, melinda :)

http://lesbiansranting.blogspot.com
I think
it will be Alice. She'll get an offer for her own show in NY. I think everyone else will have some sort of resolution. Jenny/Shane, Tina/Bette, etc. And, Alice, never fully over Dana, will want to go somewhere new and where she isn't constantly reminded of her one true love.
I don't know how I feel
I don't know how I feel about this yet. I'm glad The L Word isn't totally over, but spin-offs are never that good... oh well, I'll probably watch it anyways.

Spin Off
And here I thought Lori was totally kidding us in the chat room when she announced the big news.
Anyways, I'm pretty happy about it even though I don't know anything about it. Just the thought that The L Word keeps on going in some way or another makes me happy :)
- She's not a dog, she's a magical UNICORN! -
Jenny!!! Yeah... Jenny!!!
Jenny!!!
Yeah... Jenny!!!
I hope it's Bette! I also
I hope it's Bette!
I also hope it takes off...if so, perhaps after TLW has ended, all of the characters could guest-star in the spin-off from time to time or whatever. That would be cool. :)
Process of Elimination
Let's see...can't be Bette (Jennifer Beals) or Tina (Laurel Holloman) because they'd clearly have to be showcased together because of little Angelica (AWW!). It can't be Kit (Pam Grier) for the same reasons, I'd think. The L Word has, at its heart, always been about
Ilene ChaikenJenny (Mia Kirschner), so I think she's out as a possibility. That leaves Alice (Leisha Hailey), Shane (Kate Moennig), Max (Daniela Sea), Tasha (Rose Rollins) or Helena (Rachel Shelley).
Leisha might be interested in focusing more on her music career, since the new record's coming out and, hopefully, Rachel's pilot gets picked up by A&E, so she'll have other show commitments. So we're down to Rose, Daniela and Kate...
I think a show based on Tasha's character in the military (pre-Alice) would have be pretty awesome, but I'm not sure IC's creative enough to take it there. I'd give the edge to Daniela, but IC's never been able to write anything good for her, so that leaves Kate. I guess I'd watch.
Wait...
I know Scribe was thinking about coming back to do recaps of the 6th season? Does a spin-off mean that we'll get more Scribe too?
Cause I'd be all for that.

Yay!
Cause I'd be all for that.
Yes, a new show...new snark...but with the old Scribe spin? I'm right behind you in that line!
Hmm
