A lesbian joins the cast of "Heroes"According to TV Squad, Season 2 of NBC's Heroes will include a lesbian cheerleader named April. As AfterElton.com noted, it's good to see that despite being de-gayed last year, Heroes is game to try again. We don't have additional info on who will play April the Gay Cheerleader (and the second season doesn't start shooting till mid-June), but we're always happy to speculate! Here are some of my top picks for the actress best suited to play gay on Heroes: Mandy Musgrave, because if the rumors are true, she's not gonna be so gay on South of Nowhere next season so she might as well fulfill her fans' dreams on Heroes:
Missy Peregrym, who was just so dykey in Stick It: [OK, so I admit I stopped watching Heroes about halfway through the first season, before Missy joined the cast (as a kind reader pointed out below in the comments). But I still think she should play April the Gay Cheerleader! They can just recast whoever she's playing now. Come on!]
And my favorite: Eliza Dushku. (Yeah, I know she's probably too old to play a teenager now, so what?) Here she is in the best cheerleader movie ever, Bring It On: ![]() Who would you cast as April the Gay Cheerleader? Submitted by on May 29, 2007 - 6:04pm. |

No matter the topic...
... we'll always find a good excuse to post photos of Eliza, eh?
:-D
erm...
There is always Natasha Lyone
But that, of course, has been done before... there is also Summer Glau but I´m not sure I could see her as... well... sane.
Honestly, I just don´t know. I´m not so erm... into the whole young wave of actresses at the moment.
Can´t wait to find out what you all think!

Summer Glau would be a
Summer Glau would be a pretty good choice. The cheerleader could be a bit insane.
And Eliza can play a teenager, as long as she plays a cheerleader. And even better, a gay cheerleader. Besides, Missy was SO gay.
But I'm sure Olivia Wilde would do a great job . Besides she would look hot as a cheerleader.
Except Missy Peregrym is
Except Missy Peregrym is already a recurring cast member on Heroes. Maybe Candace was once a cheerleader?
Tina Majorino. Alona Tal. Alia Shawkat, for extra snark.
Duuuuude, Alia Shawkat would
Oh dude, I nearly forgot.

oooh, you got me With Eliza, Mandy and Missy there already lol

I don't even watch Heroes. I decided after the pilot I would be watching it on DVD all in one shot. I couldn't take another Lost type epic show at the time.
However, Kristen Bell could kick ass and take names. I'd tune in. Again kind of old if the cheerleader is indeed a highschool student. Any chance the cheerleader could be a college girl? Or is she a classmate of the original cheerleader?
Why?
Why is there going to be a gay cheerleader? It's good but I don't see how it fits into the storyline unless they create a sub-story for her. I'm down with Eliza Dushku.
I can't wait until Season 2. It's gonna be awesome!
Mmm...
Does this mean there going to make up for Zack by Bi-ing up Claire?

Hoop skirts!! (Yes, I will shamelessly plug a friend's stuff. What of it?)
character or sweeps lesbian kiss?
Oh?
I'll take that! :-P
Nah i'm sick of American shows doing sweeps gay stuff :-(
Seriously, April, reminds me of Ninja Turtles.
A lesbian character on my favourite show. That’s the best thing that could happen. On the after Elton post it does say they were going to add an actual character, so I’m confident it’s going to be more then just a one off thing.
I know there was a bit of a furore on Zack supposedly being gay and then he wasn’t, but really, how many other prime time non comedy shows can claim to have Asian, Indian and African American characters in their main cast, with significant story lines. I think even without a gay character they’re doing an exceptionally good job of representing minorities, especially if AfterElton is correct about the Latino, African American, Japanese and Irish characters Heroes is planning on adding.
Hmmm, how about Kristen Bell? She might be a bit old but I totally vote for her to be the gay cheerleader.
What a good idea!
Well if Charism Carpenter can play 17 at 30 or something like that I think Kristen could definitely pull it off, and wouldn't she make such a wonderfully perky little lesbian?
And I'd missed all the stuff about Zach not being gay and I could have sworn he was. I thought there was some almost subtexty comment about the prom that made it clear to me. Of course it could just be my general "read it as I like it" program kicking in, but I could have sworn!
No, Yes, then No again
From what I understand-
In the pilot he was straight, in series he was gay(Bryan Fuller likes to gay up people), then higher ups for some reason had him straighted back out.

I'm not holding my breath
Eliza Dushku
Wait, are there even more
Wait, are there even more rumours about SoN getting less gay?
And yeah it'll be nice if Heroes cleans up their image a bit with a real gay character but gay cheerleader sounds pretty damn sweepsy to me.
Anyone
I like is probably too old to be considered. If they've got to be a teenager (because you know, what's wrong with a 40-year-old reliving her youth) then I'd go for someone unknown. Or I'd go for Renee O'Conner.
Well, let's see
Sounds like a job for Kristen Stewart.
yaaay!!
Kristen Stewart! yumm yummy (now i feel like a perv, is she still underage?)!
i think she would definitely fit in the show, she's gorgeous, she can act, and she's not your typical bubblegum cheerleader, which would make it interesting...
Seeing eliza on tv again would be more than nice, but doesn't she have a show coming up this fall? something about nurses, i think... anyway, seriously, i used to tape every buffy episode she was in.. i love watching her fight! ;P
Nurses wasn't picked up.
Nurses wasn't picked up. I'm sad again.

Permanent character?
I have to wonder too, is this lesbian character for permanent? or just a one show deal?...and when they say "lesbian"...how will they portray such a characteristic in the person in the show? like...a kiss/love- scene? in her clothes? in her manner?
***********************************************************************
...someday, I'm going to meet the woman who's going to look at me, and say to herself: "she's the one for me..."
nice!
i love heroes. i'm so hooked to it (as i was with the uncanny xmen series) i do hope they put a good storyline and not just for sweeps. i knew that hayden p. has some gay vibe in her since her ally mcbeal days (character-wise) so maybe or hopefully she'll hook up with the lesbian cheerleader. 2 cheerleaders together, hmm... seems like fodder for the male crowd. but i'm remaining optimistic.
so is it gonna be, save the lesbian cheerleader, save the queer world?

There's Always Clea DuVall
You know, these TV rumors are usually false with an element of truth to them. I think there will be a lesbian character, but not necessarily a teenage lesbian cheerleader.
I mention Clea DuVall as someone who's already on Heroes as FBI agent Audrey Hanson. Don't know if the character isn't gay. And the actress has played a lesbian and a cheerleader.
