Elle, Anne, Uma and more: Girls in pretty dresses galore

Last weekend, Italian designer Valentino marked the 45th anniversary of his brand with a couture show in Rome, followed by a post-show gala dinner and ball at the Parco dei Daini at the Villa Borghese on July 7. Yeah, my budget (OK, and an invitation) precluded me from going, but that doesn't mean we can't sorta virtually be there through the magic of photography! Here are some of our favorite ladies at the gala:

Elle MacPherson (who played bi opposite Kate Capshaw in A Girl Thing)

Jennifer Hudson

Maggie Cheung

Anne Hathaway (remember when she held hands with Emily Blunt at the Oscars?)

Sarah Jessica Parker

Sienna Miller

Uma Thurman (always unforgettable in Henry and June)

So, what did you think of their dresses? I'm not a big fan of Sienna's big poofy red feather thingie, but as for Uma's gown: I. Want. It.

    Sienna Miller  ===è Red is

Sienna Miller  ===è Red is definitely your color.

And Uma, WOW.  That dress is sort of beautiful….. in a 12 tiered- wedding-cake kind of way. A more plunging neckline would have been the icing on the, well, cake……if you get my drift.

Hold on a minute.....is that vibrator she's clutching behind her back??  Now that's a nice design!

    Cautionary Tale

That dress that Maggie Cheung is wearing is just so wrong...but at least she doesn't look like a total idiot the way that Miller does in that red fiasco. It's like a PSA where Sienna is serving as a fashion cautionary tale.

    anne hathaway's is the best

anne hathaway's is the best gown, closely followed by maggie cheung's.... i'm not a fan of sienna's ostrich impersonation in red, but i have to say, she wears it better than a lot of us would... it takes a great deal of personality and character to walk out of your house dressed in feathers, so i bow at her confidence...

i'm not a fan of sienna

i'm not a fan of sienna miller's terrible lipstick color and her thick ol' eyebrows.  have they always looked that heavy?!  she's a major ew altogether, especially for horning in on p. diddy!

all these gowns are generally terrible, but it's all in how you wear it.  elle macpherson's gown would prolly look terrible on someone like, uh, me, but she can pull it off 'cause her figure's fantastico! uma's dress would be perfect if it weren't for the frilly layers; it does too much.  but her hair and make-up are great!

    i love uma!

    I like Uma Thurmans dres...

the color is perfect for her, maby it has a little bit too much of hmm everything on it, but it looks pretty fine on her...

    They're COUTURE dresses...so

They're COUTURE dresses...so obviously they wouldn't be worn on ANYBODY or on any given dressy occasion. I love Valentino dresses, and the women who can pull them off. Though some can be off-the-wall designs.

First place goes to Jennifer's dress, then SJP, and I kind of like Uma's...although, with her figure, she can pretty much pull off anything. Ahem...the yellow jumpsuit in Kill-Bill.

I didn't even recognize Sienna in the red lipstick...I prefer her more natural. Did she really try to get on P. Diddy?? Yikes.

    Jennifer Hudson probably

Jennifer Hudson probably looks the best. I absolutely love that dress.

What's happened to Anne Hathaway? She suddenly seems to have got very skinny :(

But the Sienna Miller thing is ridiculous... I mean, normally I love her, but what on earth happened there? Was I the only one to be reminded of Divine in Pink Flamingos?? I can't honestly believe that's the look she was going for.

    Exploding!

Jennifer Hudson's head must be exploding from all the wonderful company she's keeping these days!  Rome, Valentino, Umma, gala balls, wow!  She does look great tho'!

    ooh, pretty dresses!!!

Sienna looked like a bit of a mess if you ask me. (but given my own appalling fashion sense im not sure many would!) Jennifer Hudson however looked amazing. LOVING her dress!

    Sienna's eyebrows tragic.

Sienna's eyebrows tragic. Seriously. Even if she looks hot in the dress, her bad bad bad eyebrow coloring just ruins the whole thing. Ick.

    Maggie, Anna, Uma. HAWT!

    :-)

Am not crazy bout any of the dresses, I mean some are not bad, but cant say any of them are exceptional. Who does stick out like a sore thumb is sienna.. to me she looks kinda trashy.... Uma looks good in anythiing.. truth be told....

    A designer name

does not always mean a beautiful dress, esp. on all women. But Anne Hathaway is by far the most striking to me in these pictures. She's very attractive to begin with, and while I'd prefer her dress in a different color, she makes it stand out with her form and pose. Not to mention her hairstyle and smile.

I don't find Sienna Miller's dress an eye sore. It reminds me a style back from the late 50's to early 60's when dresses were more playful. I'm not crazy about the bright pink or red color, but a dress and color should really match a person's personality and I think it fits Sienna's. Except for the hairstyle, it looks awful with this dress. But then again, this is still better then some of the outfits I've seen her in.

Sarah Jessica Parker is probably a sweet person and all. However, no matter what dress she's wearing and I know she loves dresses, I just can't get past her face, which usually annoys me.

I really like the soft pink and lace dress on Uma Thurman. She is very pretty, esp. with her height and long legs, she could wear just about anything. Except I think she would look better with longer hair in the back, and her shoulders and back look weak. I hate seeing tall women slouch at all. Maybe it's the camera angle, but given how pretty Uma is, the dress would've been more appealing if she had sharper lines in her upper back and shoulders.
