"Battlestar Galactica" gets even sexierTake note, Battlestar Galactica fans: More lesbian action is on the schedule for Sci Fi's critically acclaimed series. Today, SyFy Portal reports some new spoilers about the BSG TV movie set to air this November. As has been widely leaked previously, the movie, titled Razor, will flash back to the Battlestar Pegasus, last seen in the Season 2 episodes "Pegasus" and the two-part "Resurrection Ship." The Battlestar Pegasus was commanded by the very commanding Admiral Helena Cain, played by Michelle Forbes.
If she looks familiar, it's because Forbes has been all over your TV. She played Ensign Ro Laren on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Dr. Julianna Cox on Homicide: Life on the Street, Lynne Kresge on Season 2 of 24, and most recently, Samantha Brinker on Prison Break. But it's BSG where I learned that she's born to play a badass. (More on Admiral Cain and those spoilers after the jump.) [Spoilers ahead!] In "Pegasus," Admiral Cain was keeping cylon Number Six (Tricia Helfer) prisoner, and the relationship between the two was, well, extremely antagonistic to say the least. According to SyFy Portal, in earlier, happier days, the two were actually lovers. Here are the details:
Here's a shot of Number Six, in case you forgot what she looks like:
Now imagine Admiral Cain and Number Six, um, together. Care to speculate on how their relationship went so downhill? Maybe all that hotness just couldn't last for that long ... Submitted by on June 19, 2007 - 11:00am. |

*swoons*
First, BSG had Lucy Lawless, now I find out Michelle Forbes... I'm totally swooning and can't wait to get into this show, there's so much to look forward to!
Much thanks, Malinda!

Fine Merce, Thanks!
Great news...
Oh, Ro
In my book, Michelle Forbes has always been very underrated. She is in some of my most favorite STNG episodes. Her characters are always interesting and complex. I think she would have made a good addition to the Law & Order franchise.
I heard she'd been cast in a new HBO series, In Treatment, along with Embeth Davidtz <3, Diane Wiest, Melissa George and some guys. It sounds an awfully lot like Huff actually.
Both :: and
Seems like both Forbes and Melissa Leo -- another Homicide alumnae -- have been perennially underrated. Maybe Forbes could hook up with Leo's character, Winnie, on The L Word, and we could spend some more air time with both of them.
Hey:: a (girlie) girl can dream, can't she?
::Without hesitation
I knew it !
I knew admiral Cain was pinging on my gaydar, it reminded me of the good times of ensign Ro Laren... And those looks with Starbuck were quit telling, didn't they ?
Re: I knew it!
DUDE! TOTALLY!
The whole "do you always get what you want" exchange made my gaydar explode.
Agreed
I was about to write that they were totally setting up Cain as a lesbian in all the scenes where she and Starbuck interacted. And while I always tend not to like storylines where a very powerful woman who has achieved everything the men could and more suddenly turns out to be a lesbian (thereby "proving" that one can only succeed through the denial of one's inherent femininity), I think there are enough ridiculously strong, powerful, and altogether kick-ass straight female characters on the show to balance out Cain.
Besides that: woo! BSG lesbian storyline!

Soap confession
And lest we forget, Michelle Forbes played bad girl Sonni on Guiding Light.
Busted.
Cain and Gina
I could have lived without this...
I really can't get excited about a relationship which will end in a systematic rape of one half of a couple ordered by the second half. Which sucks in many, many ways – considering that BSG is my favorite show and I have been hoping since the beginning we'd get to see a genuine gay/lesbian couple thrown in the mix.
I have to agree...
As much as I admired the actor's performances in the series, it's hard to escape the fact that the Admiral becomes an utterly ruthless, pragmatic dictator.
I'm not sure what could be profitably gleaned from a film about their relationship beforehand, given that the series already covers betrayal, moral relativism, our perception of consciousness and the dehumanising effect of warfare, quite well.
If they were in fact lovers, it makes the Admiral's subsequent behaviour all the more profoundly disturbing (and yes, despite the war and the religious and social circumstances in BSG, it still takes the biscuit).
There is also a distinct risk that the film could drift very easily into a number of hackneyed, negative stereotypes, coupled with the kind of rough "narrative justice" that would be typical in the very worst exploitation films.
Even allowing for the conceit held by the humans in BSG, that the Cylons are not sentient or living beings in any meaningful sense, you still cannot escape the sheer cruelty and selfishness exhibited by the crew on board Pegasus. I'm not sure that they can say anything worthwhile beyond that.Yup.
Does anyone remember
WOW!
Love BSG and Love the ladies
Number Six...bleh
squee!
My first reaction is "squee!" so I'm gonna stick with that. I'm also praying that if they do this, they might take it that next step and hook 6 up with Starbuck in the last season.

From one crush to the next ...
I had a bit of a crush going on Ensign Ro Laren in NG then DS9 and a Trill came along named Jadzia Dax and well ... I guess I'm fickle.
I was happy to see Michelle again on BSG. I was a fan of the original as a child and more so of todays version for many reasons.
Any ways, for my fellow BSG fans - my favourite S3 BSG gag reel (YouTube). LL steals the show as always.
Wow, BSG Razor is a winner
I had to post this ;), and I registered just to do so.
Michelle Forbes oozed so much charisma as Admiral Cain, I'm surprised the film didn't melt.
My take on the Gina/Cain interaction though, is that Cain secretly became attracted to Shaw. Shaw was taken aback upon finding out the Admiral was involved with Gina, but I think Gina told her that (in a not so casual way, either - she went out of her way to tell Kendra) to gain Kendra's trust because she also recognized Shaw's attraction to the Admiral. The look on Shaw's face, the fact that her hair was down for the only time in the entire episode was at the dinner scene, and the way she watched Helena through her glass of wine I think speaks volumes.
Cutting to the scene where the Admiral orders the torture, we see the two of them standing there, facing a woman that had pretended to be friends with both of them Remember that Gina and Kendra had worked closely together - we see that and then a 5000 Watt smile Helena flashes right before dinner at Shaw. Kendra admits she gave the Cylon spy her code, and that seemed to be what sent Cain over the edge more than anything. She was angry at the spy, but more than anything, a person she cared for had also been hurt by it.
That's my take on it, because there is more than one undercurrent streaking through the dinner scene.
One other thing to point out, is the scene where you see Kendra coming around, and the first thing she recognizes is the form of the Admiral, whipping her hair around and generally looking like Xena in the 23rd century. The first thing the Admiral does, is ask her if she is alright. She smacks her, but I think that was just Cain's warrior nature attending to the business of a battle. She also never failed to see to her well-being, even asking her how long she had been at her post, but she gave her the benefit of knowing her own limits, which was a strong show of respect.
In any case, I'm not sure I'd care if they hacked Admiral Cain back into the plot somehow, even if they had to do it as her being a Cylon. In fact, I might like that even better because then there would be more than one severely hot copy of her in the universe, and a girl can dream, can't she?
