"Guiding Light" 7/6 mini-cap: Natalia Prepares for Take-Off

Thanks for another snarky recap XD I really needed it after last week :( and today wasn't any better but i guess thats sopa drama for ya.I can't wait till we get to see Jessica Leccia on screen again. I believe that if CBS hadn't pulled the plug on GL we wouldn't be getting this ridiculous Frankenbaby storyline :\ I hate CBS!!

Favorite line: " Natalia is still sick. She thinks it's food poisoning. Nat did have an old wiener four months ago — that could do it." LMAO

Thought I'd cushion the blow a little by reading this, but now I'm even more loathe to watch.

Thanks for this.  I watched every episode in May and was very excited about the developments but have missed watching as things developed since then.  Holy crap.  Thank you for enduring this episode so that we could read the recap.  But what the heck!  From a character standpoint, though, after everything Olivia has endured, Nat should have just told her....That's what we girls do - overcommunicate.  Nat is always dumping this heap of crap on Olivia and she listens with those big understanding dog eyes and stands strong.  I think Olivia could handle anything.  But maybe this is when Olivia is going to get her big freak out on.  How much longer is Guiding Light on the air?  Have they secured an agreement with Lifetime yet?

At first I was going to say that this relationship is unfolding in real life time.  But I really think it is developing slower than real life time.

I love the line about the four month old weiner. 

what i am really enjoying is that they arent defaulting to a stereotypical lesbian storyline...

 wait...did you just say shes "pregnant"

Um...clearly Olivia does, and F me she does it well. No questioning the kiss-blowing, she can blow kisses at me all day.

I don't get why people are blaming CBS, though. They allow same-sex kissing on their other shows. And what do they have to do with the pregnancy travesty? Do they really care about one storyline on a cancelled show? Unlikely. With the way the writers are destroying this once great couple, I say CBS made  pretty good call after all in cancelling GL. I mean, all soap couples are destroyed eventually, but usually they at least get to kiss first.

As a soap fan, I have a bit of a sado-masochistic streak, so I actually enjoyed seeing Olivia slowly crushed over the course of the BBQ. We knew it was coming. CC totally brought it. If Nat had been leaving for pretty much any other reason than pregnancy, I would think it's great drama (except for the awkward no kissing, but that is old news). But pregnancy? Really, show? You couldn't come up with a more stereotypical plot for lesbians, like....wait, there aren't any more stereotypical plots for lesbians. So they've now updated The Children's Hour to the mid 1990s. Welcome to 2009!

I consider the pregnancy storyline an affront to lesbian fans. I was never an "Otalia is endgame" zealot and have never hesitated to point out flaws in the show, but now I feel foolish and ashamed at how much I really loved it and deep down believed that it was different, that the writers actually respected the subject matter. Screw you, writers, for crushing my heart!

Do you condense an entire week so succinctly?  As the week wore on I knew you had a mighty task ahead.

It's murdering so many of us and making us (it can't be just me) cranky as f**k-all!  If we had many months or years to watch this unfold I don't think it wouldn't generate such anguish, but the episodes to wrap up Otalia are limited, and it's not like there aren't other storylines to conclude.  I don't have much faith that the writers will come through for us, but it's the trainwreck I can't not watch.

With the angst coming and the great way you re-cap the show - I just might make it through the next 4 weeks without Natalia on the screen.

Don't get me wrong - I am really looking forward to seeing Crystal knock this angst out of the park but it's going to be a rough time.  Thankfully you help make me laugh at things because of your smart and funny perspective.

Not sure if the Weiner, the Katrina, or the capturing of the happy Liv countdown to angst was my favorite parts but I agree with it all.

Talk about setting up a soap plot that is going to be hard to watch but filled with drama...

okay, i need to google some spoilers. this is killing me! i get that they need to take care of this whole pregnancy thing (Nat was about the size of a baby orca. seriously - a baby orca that swallowed a sea lion.), but im just crossing my fingers that this is the writers' way of drawing things out for the two until september. im willing to put up with a whole lot of BS if it means a happy ending come GL's finale.

let's just hope Olivia doesnt go all crazy and rebound with a bunch of men. Because now that would be painful. What's with television's utter inability to let lesbians have any sort of normal happiness? Ugh.

i can't wait to see olivia fall apart and CC is the best actress to pull this off. i mean friday's scenes just killed!

i'm totally an otalia endgamer and all i have to say is that everything is going to be ok!

I don't cry often. But I am sitting here sobbing watching Olivia run around looking for Natalia. The next four weeks are going to be heartbreaking.

They had better give these two a happy ending or CBS and the writers may need to douse themselves in flame retardent chemicals.

So, do you think this whole 'Nat is pregnant' story line is just there to explain Jessica Leccia's enormous belly? Cause it was pretty obvious this last month, why did they decide to go for the 'pregnant in real life and pregnant on tv'- thing now?

I think I'd finally cooled down about that by Friday (mostly) but then I see Friday's episode where literally.... every.... single.... other... person in Springfield, even crazy Alan and usually brooding James. Every single person is happy except for the two lesbians. What message does that send????

I really loved the Otalia story until this pregnancy stuff last week. I get that they needed to give Jessica Leccia a way out for maternity leave, but couldn't they have done something else less insulting?

I understand that there may be a happy ending in the long run, but it sucks that in a few months Otalia will be but a memory. Then, I believe, we will have no lesbian characters to follow in daytime. None.

In the meantime, the gay guys are springing up everywhere in daytime - ATWT, OLTL, and Y&R. No offense to the guys, but when will we have our stories told? Gay and lesbian are not always interchangeable.

I loved your recap. I'm part of team "Endgame" (not a very popular team @ AE) so I'm not worried. I'm loving the angst because I have faith in the Goddess. Extreme angst=amazing levelling off later.

Jessica goes back to work tomorrow (hopefully with baby Ivy in tow, per CC's tweets!) and all will be alright by the time Sept 18th rolls in.

I can't wait.

PS: I looked up synonyms for "wiener" in the dictionary and both "Frank" and "Frankfurter" were listed. Enough said, really :p

When I watched this, I think my heart was breaking along with Olivia. I've seen this coming for a little while, but I've grown so happy for Olivia, that I hoped Natalia wouldn't do the stupid thing & that the writers wouldn't be that cliched...

Seriously, the only reason I keep watching is because of CC's amazing depiction of Olivia. I've looked over some of her earler versions of Olivia on GL, and I have to say, this new one seems to suit her beautifully. Now if only she weren't told not to touch Natalia...that's the only part of CC's Olivia that seems forced.

 I can't stop watching!! I fucking love Crystal Chappell...and that end scene...broke my heart. What can I say, I'm addicted to the angst...lol

Reading the recap almost hurt as much as watching it unfold onscreen.

The screencap of Olivia at the BBQ handing out lemonade got me captivated though. From now on I'd like to stay in my Happy Olivia place thank you very much. Yesterday's last scene gutted me. Throwing her stuff at the FoL?! All. Kinds. Of. Wrong.

When do we get our collective Otalia happy, Ellen Wheeler? WHEN?

Fr. Ray is definitely passive agressive.

But I did like him saying Natalia needs to find peace. I expect Natalia to lay down the law with Frank, Rafe, and Fr. Ray when she returns. Then she will win back her woman -- pregnant or not.

You have true talent to be able to find snark in last week's episodes. The pictures show the sadness of last week for both characters. 

Pregnancy or not last week was high soap drama at its best.
