Crystal Chappell will play the leading lesbian in a new web seriesIt’s official: After months of playful innuendo, The Soapgeist has announced Crystal Chappell will be playing the lesbian lead character, a designer named Gina, in the upcoming web serial, Venice: The Series.
Little is known of the series other than it is based around a family dynamic set in the progressive Southern California city of Venice Beach and several notable soap stars have signed on to the project including Jessica Leccia, the other half of Guiding Light’s same-sex super couple, Otalia, and Elizabeth Keener (The L Word, 3-Way).
Twitter was aflutter as legions of Otalia fans celebrated the confirmation that Chappell will play Gina. The production team tease that this could be the anticipated continuation of the pairing from the now canceled daytime drama. The only one that knows for sure is Chappell and she’s not saying yet, but we do have an interview with her coming up soon on AfterEllen.com, where we'll get the scoop on Venice and the possible continuation of Otalia. YAAAAAY!!!
fantastic news!
NORA!
I'm not very informed about Otalia cause I'm an ABC soap fan (even though they suck at lesbianism!) but I look foward to watching the actresses in this and also Hiliary B. Smith is in that promo shot up there, she plays Nora on OLTL and she was the reason I started watching soap operas (willingly) in the first place!

awesome
HELLS YEAH !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so excited and can't wait :)
best. news. ever.
So glad NBC/DOOL realized that CC in this series would only bring MORE attention to their show, and not mess it up. It was less a tease than contractual issues that I am glad to see have been resolved.
Can I get a HELL YEAH?!?!

OTALIA!! WE. WANT. IT.

Hail to the Goddess!
La Chappell is Gina?
Whoop-de-freakin'-doo!
Those 30sec are gonna be the longest seconds in my life, HA!
Seriously, I think it's great that Venice gets some exposure. CC's definitely earned it through her work and dedication to her fanbase. Now. How fast can I transfer my $10 fee again? *throws cash at Venice production team
LOL j/k. Just know that we're a loyal bunch and would do as much as we possibly can to help make this a succes. Cheers!
Crystal as Gina on Venice & NY Times article & Mimi Torchin
It has been a great news day indeed. Absolutely thrilled with the Venice news and the NY Times article.
Excerpt from "Love That Dares to Tweet Its Name Sparks Web Series" by Lisa Bernhard published 8/24 on NYTimes.com http://bit.ly/DCzAv
Her leading lady on “Guiding Light,” Ms. Leccia, has agreed to join the cast without pay. One big difference from Otalia: “In the first 30 seconds you see these two women kiss,” Ms. Chappell said.
And here's the link to Crystal's Facebook with Crystal's quote on playing Gina and links to Mimi Torchin's story about Crystal playing Gina and Mimi's latest Otalia column.
See what Crystal said on today's big announcement that she will star in Venice as Gina! http://tinyurl.com/crystalfb
The NYT has been living
The NYT has been living up to is monicker as the cultural "paper of record" on this and other matters. The day GL was cancelled they gave it a front page story recounting its place in TV history and currently have a blog where people can post their GL memories.
I'm Doing My I Love Crystal Dance!
Natalia may have her "I love Olivia dance," but it's nothing compared to my I love Crystal (and Jessica) dance. See, I'm doing it right now. Please join in if you'd like.
Crystal is not just beautiful, she's also a very smart businesswoman as well. As another poster said, the web is the way of the future with soaps. It's just like when soaps went from radio to TV 50-some years ago.
And even though I've never watched DOOL, I may have to check it out when Dr. Carly is back in town. Hmm. I wonder if she makes house calls.?
Keener!
I know right!
I wonder who her "Lover" will be in THIS series?
"Hi I'm Dawn Denbo and this is my Lover Cindy."
Hee!
Bring it on!

Looooooooooooove
The Talented Ms. Chappell
Oh my, what great news, but that picture... WOW.
Somebody should just photoshop Grey Goose with that picture and send it to GG peeps. There's your sponsor right there.
Oh, and how about AE/Logo hosting or sponsoring the show in some way?
Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy!
Crystal just astounds me with her
eyescommittment to fans. There are few out there in the industry that would go so far as to spend their own time and money in efforts to breathe life and progress into such a worthwhile cause. Thank you Jessica, Thank you Kimmy, Thank you Crystal, Thank you Team Venice! Flippin rock, guys.We mourn the loss of Otalia, but excitedly (and graciously) await the drama and intrigue of Ginani!! (still working on the portmanteau...)
Crystal Chappell is amazing!
SQUEEEEE! LOVE Crystal and
It's about time!!!
I love Crystal & Jessica and the fact that they not only support our community, but hopefully, make our
fantasiesfan fictionsdreams come true. Thank you to everyone involved in this - I'll definitely be watching.Cheers~
My 2 cents.
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Geeeee!
Fantastic news !!!!!
Gina AND Carly? Happiest person in the world!
I can't get over how amazing
I can't get over how amazing it is that CC and JL would give up their free time in order to bring this series to the fans. I always kinda thought that the obsessive nature of lesbians when it comes to these sorts of storylines would be a little full on for actresses but CC and JL have whole-heartedly embraced, interacted and genuinely supported the community. You can't have anything but sh!tloads of respect (or in lesbian terms, undying love and adulation) for people who are so genuine and giving of their time. Thank you CC, JL and everyone else involved!
Well said!
Crystal rocks!
SOOO EXCITED!
Exciting stuff!!
Super thrilled for Crystal and her team, on what is set to be a fabulous production. Ecstatic for us fans too - counting down the dayys!!
Bring. It.
