We're Getting Nowhere: "The L Word" Season 1, "Listen Up"

I completely agree that this is by far the most boring episode, and I hope Ilene and her staff don't plan on out-doing it in the upcoming season. Seriously people, we watch tv to get away from our own problems, not to wallow in and be dragged through those of others.

Didn't love the actual episode as much as I usually do, did love the vlog as much!

That episode should have been called "L'ennui", not the previous one! I think you pretty much summed up what sucked.... but, I totally agree with you about Sarah Strange (what a weird name, no pun intended), she's so great! I even watched more than one episode of Men in Trees because she was in it... but i hate the show so I stopped it later.

Group therapy totally is #1 though. Pay for that is something I can't understand. Plus I wouldn't be surprised it'd be very expensive. 

And actually you did an awesome job considering how bad the episode was. It really was an hilarious vlog :)

Thank You Ladies!!!! I'm so fucking sick of that sterotype! The "Angry Black Person" shit is really getting old...it had gotten old by time the episode was written! Yes I'm a black woman (girl, I'm only 21) and Yes I get angry but I'm pretty sure anger is universal!!! And then to have the "angry black lady" angry about Bette not being "black enough"?! ok, so just watched it, great effort considering the drivel that was the episode... gotta say, I for one won't abandon you guys cuz you're hilarious, (LOVED the reenactments...) but its just great 'seeing' you every week and feeling another sense of connection with this great community.

Ooh and Luna's (is that her name?) face when you had the phone to her ear at the beginning was priceless! Takes after her mother in the acting department :P

Is it just me, or does anyone else want to see the original vlog they shot for this episode? Honestly, these three vloggers are so entertaining, I'd probably listen to them wax philosophical about belly lint for an hour.

It was a boring episode, but there were funny moments.

Like Shane and Alice laughing at Dana's coming out angst ~

Marina: You didn't come out to your parents yet?
Shane: Well, I think Subaru's gonna do it for you.

And Yolanda may have been a caricature, but this was hilarious ~

Yolanda: That's only if you're set on getting a newborn white baby.
Alma: (to Yolanda) What's wrong with a white person wanting a white baby?
Bette: I think most people want to have a family that looks like the family that they grew up in.

The look on Yolanda's face was priceless. I could hear her thinking, "Bitch, you ain't white!" Honestly, are we supposed to buy that anyone in that room thought Bette was completely white? I'm also mixed-race and it's so common and annoying when people expect you to identify exclusively with whatever they think you look like. Bette is as white as she is black.

This was my favorite moment:

Tina: Oh, no, no. We both thought it was, um, really interesting.
Oscar: We? You haven't even had a chance to talk to Bette about it yet.
Tina: Oh, yeah. Um. I thought it was really interesting. And, um, I'll talk to Bette about it, and then we'll both decide what we want to do.

Thank you, Oscar! My ex used to do that all the time. Maybe that's why I don't like Tina. Not that I don't like my ex.

Yeah...the talented trio really didn't have a lot to work with on this one. Maybe it should have been skipped altogether...though the absence of our normally scheduled WGN vlog would have likely caused an Internet riot.

Jill's hotness can not be compromised by something as trivial as hair so whatever she ends up doing to her tresses will work with her awesome bone structure and perfect features. Must stop now - drooling on my laptop, don't want to cause a short circuit cause then I couldn't watch this vlog.

Actually, I think Jill's Patty Hearst look is beautiful.  No way should she listen to gay women about how to cut her hair!

Frankly: no weave. Of course, I'm in no position to make decisions about Jill's hairdo but if she really wants to hear the voice of opinionated lesbians, I must say she looks foxier with shorter hair.

 And yes, this episode was just crap. Not he WGN episode, the L word one :)

Nice work ladies with the crappiness that was this episode.  I also like Annette's character and thought that she and Jenny would make out in front of Marina and Francesca (the best name ever!  well I am a it biased as it is mine....) to make Marina jealous but oh well. 

Loved seeing Luna.  My Jeff lets me do that stuff to him too, but hates the phone as well.

I also hated the angry black woman thing.  I am mixed, and I have been accused of not being black enough.  It is a ridiculous argument and I am mad that the L word decided to portray it this way.  BUT, they did it so that there would be a connection between Candace and Bette as they met through Yolanda, since Candace is Yolanda's ex. 

Also, I kind of hated Bette this episode because of the way she treated Tina.  When Tina was researching Yolanda to get some dirt on her for Bette, Bette treated her like sh*t.  I would never get mad at my partner for sympathizing with someone insulting my racial identity. 

Ok, enough.  Great work and my two cents on the weave: no weave.  But either way, Jill, you are muy caliente and tres belle!
