We're still anxiously awaiting the premiere of Season 1 of The L Word on Logo, and it's left us no choice but to go see movies. This week, we were all to happy to fill the seats for our girls Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on the opening day of Baby Mama. In case you haven't already heard, Baby Mama is about wealthy business woman Kate (Fey), who discovers that she's infertile and then hires zany working-class gal Angie (Poehler) to be her surrogate. Hijinks ensue when circumstances force junk food-eating, karaoke-singing Angie to move in with health food snob and control-freak Kate. It's like The Odd Couple, but with breast pumps.
So in our special Baby Mama edition of WGN, we review the film, talk about why we love Fey and Poehler, and display some frightening photos of the children we "made" with the "Baby Mama baby maker" program on the Baby Mama website. Watch and decide whose "baby" is the ugliest. Is it mine and Jill's? Dara's and Jill's? Mine and, gulp, Dara's? Warning: Minor Spoilers

Aww shucks!
I haven't watched baby mama yet!!
but what the heck! off to watch the vlog..
btw, was it a coincidence??
either way...acdc and the rolling stones are awesome bands!!
okay...
it's called being ornery. these two are probably very much aware of the speculation going on, and given their personalities, are probably quite amused with it...so they are just prob. messing with you and everyone else that has the gasp! reaction to this...it's kind of like when george clooney said he and angelina jolie were having an affair to mess with the media and to jokingly divert the attention away from the actual couple.
PSthatsMe
this.
Oo naughty vloggers
Teasing the AE denizens like that :)
hehe must be some kind of
hehe must be some kind of joke
well done
Or research
.....
omg. Wearing similar clothes means something -other- than the fact that you both like the same things? I missed the memo!
My sister and i have some of the same clothes.. does that mean i belong in jail? I'm too pretty to go to prison!! (also.. ew)
May i suggest some sort of AfterEllen Vlogger uniform? Possibly something in a onesie?
That'd stop the speculation.. for serious. :)
heh.
one. i like the "for serious" comment, i love that phrase. and it even cracked me up more when jill bennet paused to point out, "yes, i say 'for serious'."
two. play nice. it's not just that wearing similar clothes means more than liking the same things, it's that they've coincidentally worn it simultaneously the same week they released their vlogs...thus formed speculation...and my former conclusion that they are being ornery with us. and i like it.
g'nite!
PSthatsMe
your
Great Vlooooooog
Awesome!
I can't wait to watch the movie. I love Tina Fey and Amy Foehler ^^
Those were some messed up
Those were some messed up babies. >< Maybe conservatives are right and we shouldn't have kids. :P XD Blah. Bad gag on my part. Sounds like a great movie, though. Hope it comes out in Australia.
PS: I think guy buddy movies are (or can be) very homoerotic. Just like wrestling. Then again, I do suspect that I'm a gay man trapped in a lesbian's body. :P It just depends what you're looking for. I love my gay vibes.
I wanna...
See what my babies will look like> now!!
'Dill' was deffo the
least scarycutest :)x
The Prime Directive
"As the right of each sentient species to live in accordance with its normal cultural evolution is considered sacred, no Star Fleet personnel may interfere with the healthy development of alien life and culture. Such interference includes the introduction of superior knowledge, strength, or technology to a world whose society is incapable of handling such advantages wisely. Star Fleet personnel may not violate this Prime Directive, even to save their lives and/or their ship unless they are acting to right an earlier violation or an accidental contamination of said culture. This directive takes precedence over any and all other considerations, and carries with it the highest moral
obligation."
--Only because 1) I'm kind of a new school trekkie and was curious myself, and 2) it's 2:35am and I am TOTALLY procrastinating on this marketing case analysis that is due at 9am today. :-)3
LMAO
I love that you looked that up.. genius.
Kristen
i really liked this movie
i really liked this movie but I also saw it thinking that Tina Fey wrote it... I liked it regardless but I agree with everything that you all said, it would have been better and more sharp if she had written it.
Amy Poehler is beyond hilarious in everything she does(seal trainer, anyone?) and now her and Will Arnett are having a baby so maybe we have a really funny kid to look forward to in 20 years.
babies & me = awkward situations.
Fun!
Great v-log ladies! Can't wait to see this film, but I guess I'm going to have to wait a while before it's in theaters here... *sigh*
Wow, you know about the prime directive?:p Secret trekkies? LOL

E.V.O.O. SpOILer!! SpOILer!!
<3 Tina
I'm a huge Tina Fey fan so i've been waiting for that movie for a while. I hope i'll be able to watch it when i'm gonna be in the US next week because i don't know when and if it's going to come out in France.
Jill's picture as an angry baby was so cute!!!
Tina Fey rocks, 30 rock rocks, but i'm a bit disappointed though she didn't write anything for the movie because i agree with Jill on Tina's sharp and quick humor that makes 30 rocks so amazing and genius!
As for your babies pictures they pretty much are the proof that you should not have children together :P
It's coming out in France
It's coming out in France on September 18th 2008 according to www.allocine.fr
We have to wait more than 4 months to watch it. IT SUCKS !
I'd love to see that movie
here are the release dates:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0871426/releaseinfo
it sounds like fun even though tina fey didn't write it, sadly. well but still two more episodes 30 rock left :)
great v-log as always and thumbs up for supporting the movie at its first weekend!
I totally agree with you
I totally agree with you guys. I am also relieved. I, like Dara, didn't realize that Tina didnt' write or direct this film and was SUPER dissapointed that it wasn't as funny as 30 Rock or even Mean Girls. Now that I know it was some guy, I can relax and appreciate it more. I also agree that there was too much lovey dovey stuff, and think there was just too much going on in general: the family, the boyfriend, the ex-boyfriend, the job, etc...they could have cut out the love interest completely and the movie would have been even stronger.
I think my favorite scene was when they were singing with the karaoke revolution.
Tina Fey is a comedy genius. 30 Rock is soooooooo good that I almost feel like i'm cheating on "Arrested Development". "Gold Case," i mean, in the words of Gob Bluth "Come on!"
"Lift up your lyres! Sing on! But as for me, I seek your sister whither she is gone."
-Edna St. Vincent Millay
!
As always, fantastic.
I just have to make sure I stop being lazy and actually go to the theatre for once, now.

"Suicide is man's way of telling God, 'You can't fire me: I quit.' "]WGN!
I loved seeing your review of Baby Mama... I too find that we (women as a whole) need to show our support for women in the film and TV industry (and frankly in all walks of life) and prove to those men in power that women can (and should) be given more opportunities to "carry" a film and that we will make money for the studios, etc. I was thrilled to see that Baby Mama came in at the top of the box office!
Tina Fey may not have written or directed this particular film but you could certainly see how she and the fabulous Amy Poehler brought bits of themselves to the film that weren't from the written page.
I really liked the photos of all of you ladies as babies... very cute, and you could certainly see glimpses of the women you are today in the baby pics.
As for the morphing photos of the possible outcome of what a child between two of you would look like... those pics always freak me out and as much as it pains me to say these were no exception. I know that if it were possible for this mix of parentage to exist that your actual babies would turn out far more attractive than could ever be shown via some morphing system that clearly needs work before it should be used again! That being said I too would say that the "Dill" baby was the least frightening mix of the ones shown.
As always, it's nice to get our fix of the "terrible three" in any capacity, so thanks for the review... and I'll be looking forward to the next installment of WGN.
P.S. Hoping this works... here's "baby Shannon" (aka imthey)
(Self Appointed) "#1 Bridget McManus Fan"
hey, you look cuuute!
and also like you are auditioning for the main part in toddler version of Heidi :)
Peeing in the Sink
...
Aha
oh dammit! Jill doesnt like babies! now i need to give up on all my plans of how i'd meet and marry her =P LOL
great vlog girls, as always! i was watching the movie trailer of baby mamma and it definitely looks really good. thx for the recap
bromance and leschickflick
I think on the idea that women buddy movies seem to have a lesbian undertone to them - some gay boys think the Die Hards and SuperBad have a gay subtext to it as well. Not that I've seen Baby Mama, but maybe it's just the audience - do the straight women see any lesbian undertones in the movies in which we see them? am I making any sense? probably not.
Anyway, the three of you were adorable babies - Karman and Dara look exactly the same, and Jill has the same expression, but looks kinda different - i guess it's the blonde hair. Though, the idea of Angry Baby Jill is adorable. And Jill, we love your ears. And yes, I have a thing for ears.
there is a lesbian subtext
Mama Mia!
Looking forward to seeing this one. I always loved Tina and Amy together on Weekend Update. Thanks for bringing a little review and some frightening photos. I used to be a Newborn Nursery nurse and thank God none of the babies I cared for looked like them!
Along the lines of Jill's info on the 'scent' of babies. When I worked we had 2 big nursery rooms with our nursing station in between. Sometimes for no reason at all, you felt like you should go into one of the rooms and as you got near a certain baby, you'd find them spitting up or choking (normal for the very newborn who may have swallowed some fluid on the way out). It was like someone was watching over the baby and led you there. It happened to all of us, not just me.
Looking forward to more from you great ladies!
you guys...
You're soooo irreverent and inappropiate it's GENIUS!! I'll never look at a onezie (sp?) in quite the same way ever again...
Hilarious fun!!
myspace
7 out of 10 *SPOILERS*
I too was expecting it to have the same humor as 30 Rock or Mean Girls but i also thought Tina Fey wrote it it was still a good movie best lines that i loved
-"Bitch, I don't know your life!"
-"Is that chocolate or poop," licks it, "it's chocolate."
-If you listen to DMX, the baby comes out goin 'Ennngghhh!'"
-"Can I just spray a little pam down in that area before the baby comes out?"
-"I'm mastering the japanese art of karaoke"
I can't remember the how the other one went but Amy Poehler aka Angie said something about space vvehicle that one was awesome there ar probably alot more that i just can't remember i'd go see it again couse i know there is probably a lot of stuff i missed
Surly is Sexy
I think Jill's hot temper is so sexy.
But anyway I love you girls, and I know you don't personally want to have kids and aren't all that crazy about them, but it gets to be a little much for those who love children to listen to you go on and on about how much you don't like them. Like if I were to say awful things about cats (which I woud never do because I love them, even though I'm extremely allergic) I know your joking, and I can see the humor, but I start to squirm in my seat after a while because I love children so much and it just gets to be uncomfortable.
I don't say that to say don't express yourselves, because it's a great show. Just had to put that out there cause it's not the first time I've felt that way, but keep up the good work ladies.
loved it!
CARNI BABIES!
At least that's what I thought when I saw the cross-mojination of you guys. Too funny.
Tell you what, after my L&D rotation in nursing school I knew that birthing babies wasn't for me...nor was working in that area. Although, well baby nursery was a blast (plenty of new heads to huff ladies) and you swaddle them up tight in those blankets...you could throw them like a tight spiral in football and they wouldn't get hurt (lots of blankies).
Jill, your conversation of pill sales made me groan...I work nights and everytime I go through the lounge it's a darn commercial for some sort of fake erection pill...geez! Could have been worse though...could have been one of the actresses on the commercial who wiggle their brows and act like the whole idea is tantalizing.
The other half and myself will have to head out and see this sometime during the weekend...purrs at the thought of Maura...and Sigourney (may I look as good as her when I get that age).
Bopis etc...
By the way, I had to go to a baby shower last year...and felt so out of the loop.
When did they come out with Bopis...and front loading baby packs...did a lesbian come up with that one? Very sensible equipment.
And glad to know I'm not the only one who refers to their breasticles as the girls...or the twins!
Wonderful Vloooog
No UK release date
lots of love
Loved Baby Mama and your Review!!
http://onefootinonefootout.blogspot.com/
As always!
cool flick
Hahaha
I laughed through the whole vlog! You are so funny, when you showed your
lovelyscary shildren I lost it. When Dara talked about picking up the babies and carrying them like a suitcase was especially hilarious.I agree that we have to support women in movies (or antyhing else for that matter).
Loved your Vee-Log
Hey Chicks -- great to see you guys on the couch again -- thanks for the laughs. When's our next matinee? Huh Huh... xo
Do what you love, with those you love.
3WayTV.tv
I have decided
That I love all three of you! (Humor that is, not in that stalker, scary way....)
I agree with the review, having seen the movie Sunday night, it's definitely one to watch, and it's definitely an 8 on a scale of 10. It was formulated plot, nothing new there, you can pretty much predict everything that happens. BUT, the improv is certainly what saves the entire film from being forgetable.
Dara: My opinion on why we find homo-erotic themes in women's movies is socially constructed. Our society as a whole still puts gender roles into a cookie cutter. Men are macho and their feelings should never be shown unless they are meant as a comedic foil or object of scorn. Women, on the other hand, are nuturer's and expected to cross emotional boundaries with everyone, hence the homo-erotic tones, but not necessarily explicit representations of women's love.
Karman: "why don't cars come with 'new human smell?'" Because you'll sound like a cannibal. 'Nough said.
Jill... Nice "adjust". The girls know what I'm talking about.
Jills ears are to cute
y'alls babies are gonna give me nightmares
I just want to say that Jill has the cutest ears.
i agree babies stink and i guess im a monster cause when i see or smell a baby i dont want to pick it up.
their bendy
