Timeline of the lesbian/bi decade in entertainment

From Ellen and Portia to Batwoman and Wanda Sykes, 2009 has been a big year for lesbians and bisexual women in pop culture. But what about all of the people and events who made the entire decade so memorable?

To help jog your memory, StuntDouble created a nifty timeline that reflects just a few of the big stories from 2000 to 2009.

For a more thorough view of the last decade, check out our Best. Lesbian. Decade. Ever. article.

What were the lesbian/bi pop culture highlights for you over the past decade?

Wait....

Tila Tequila made the list?

And I thought the most notorious bisexual woman in the world was Angelina Jolie? Or Madonna? Or anyone else? :)

I would have bumped Tila out of the list and mention that Xena Ended....or even put South of Nowhere there, or better, Once and Again... or since you are including international events I can think of a lot of others too...

And I think it's important to mention that Fish & Elephant is the first Mainland Chinese movie about lesbianism (not only Chinese).

But nice anyway. :)

Tila Tequila--Notorious Bisexual Woman

Given that the word "notorious" generally refers to someone is who is famous in a negative way (infamous), I think Tila Tequila is more appropriate than Angelina Jolie or Madonna, at least in terms of "most notorious bisexual woman." I do agree, however, with your questioning of Tila Tequila making the list at all.

Ah...

Interesting to know that notorious is usually used as a synonym to infamous, I didn't know that.

Well, I still think that Madonna would be more appropriate still as I would think she is more infamous around the world (not because of her bisexuality though).... :) :)

I don't think Tila is widely know outside of north america...

Batwoman

A correction. Kate Kane is *not* a longtime comic book hero. She first appeared in 52 #7 as Kate and in 52 #11 as Batwoman, both 2006. Yes, there have been earlier characters called Batwoman, but she's not them.

what a decade

my goodness that is one of my favorite movies... "The Hours"... Meryl Streep is amazing. I don't know but, I liked the L Word a lot... even though the last season was a total debacle...I love Melissa!!! quite a decade for her... Hmm Brooke Shields in "What Makes a Family", that was the 1st gay movie I saw... though I used to watch Queer as Folk (USA version).. and I remember Lindsey and Melinda, ha at that time I was quite innocent...

Missing Otalia

It boggles my mind that you left out Guiding Light's Olivia and Natalia.  Their storyline was groundbreaking and beautifully told.  In my opinion, their story was THE best lesbian love story I have seen in any medium.  Can't believe it wasn't on the list.  Something is amiss.

Tila Tequila made the list, but Otalia didn't?! C'mon.

Totally agree with you on

Totally agree with you on that one.For everything they brought all over the world, Otalia should have made the list !

Willow and Tara

Willow coming out in 2000 and Willow and Tara's relationship. Joss Whedon had to fight the network, in fact threaten to QUIT to get them to allow Willow and Tara to kiss in the episode "The Body." It's my favorite openly gay fictional couple. They were EPIC. I'm truly mystified that they were left out.

Yay for Willow and Kennedy...but my heart still goes out to Tara.... :(

To this day...whenever I hear that Michelle Branch song on the radio...I think about that episode where they broke up...ugh...sad, and of course she dies right when they get back together...
