Tila Tequila takes a shot for the teamMTV has finally coughed up more information about its new Bachelor-style reality dating show that we told you about back in June in Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever. At the time, all we knew was that the producers were looking for some 21-and older lesbians who wanted a chance to hook up with a "fresh out of the closet Maxim model." Now we know the name of the show, the name of the model, and the rules of the game. Brace yourselves. A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila, premieres October 9. What? You say you've never heard of Ms. Tequila? She's only the biggest myspace.com phenomenon Of All Time. And she has way more "friends" than you too, like two million more. For real. Oh yeah, and she's bisexual. Whoops! They forgot to mention that middle part in the initial casting notice.
Yes, that's the big twist on the old dating show nugget. A Shot at Love has 16 straight men and 16 lesbians all vying for her attention. Every episode will end with a "dramatic ceremony unlike anything you've ever seen before." It's all so very Three of Hearts, I hardly know what to do with myself! Sound exploitive? Au contraire! Tony DiSanto, executive vp series development and programming at MTV, says of this new venture, "Tila Tequila made a name for herself by doing things her way, captivating legions of fans online, both men and women. Now she is taking that attitude and sex appeal to her own TV series where she is looking for a mate -- by again captivating a group of both men and women. The show is a roller-coaster ride of drama, conflict and emotion, busting stereotypes and challenging the norm." I'm not sure which stereotypes are going to busted by A Shot at Love. I don't think it's the "anything that moves" stereotype, or the one about lesbians "competing" with straight men for women. Maybe they mean the stereotype about lesbians being morally superior and therefore immune to looking just as ridiculous on reality dating shows as straight people. Yeah, it might be that one. What Tila have to say about all of this? In an announcement posted on her myspace page yesterday, she wrote:
It's a question for the ages, really. Lest you think she's just in it for the publicity (and, you know, the love of her life) Tila tells us, "NOBODY IN TELEVISION HISTORY HAS EVER DONE SUCH A GROUNDBREAKING SHOW AND I AM HAPPY TO BE THE ONE TO PAVE THE WAY TO OPEN UP PEOPLE'S MINDS ABOUT THE LESBIAN AND GAY COMMUNITY!"
That's right kids, she's doing it for us. I mean, SHE'S DOING IT FOR US!! And that's all the permission you should need to tune in without (much) guilt. Submitted by on September 7, 2007 - 4:58pm. |

Figures....
I like the whole idea of the show - but once again we're seeing the whole 'bisexual' thing. I will be shocked if she ends up with a female - unless there's money involved if she ends with the woman. When will we see the lesbian bachelorette show?? Sorry i'm just tired of the whole bisexual thing...its like it's the new color of the season!
Of course a woman would want to be with another woman...they just dont end up with them longterm (bisexuals).
Just my humble opinion....

Really now? I don't, do
Really now? I don't, do I?
Well, I guess that means I was hallucinating during my very real, very meaningful, relationships with women. Obviously I spent the entire time just waiting for The Right Man.
yeah.
...and by this I don't in any way mean to say that this woman doesn't appear to be completely tiresome, and perpetuating ridiculous stereotypes.
I mean that it would be good to realise that stereotypes are all they are.

WTF?
I don't think it's humanly possible for me to roll my eyes any longer.
Excellent report, Karman.
WILL I BE STRAIGHT OR LESBIAN IN THE END?????
Yeah, that's how it works - you pick one or the other.
<insert eye roll here>
The only circumstance that would lend itself to me actually watching a single eppie of this show is if I am up late one night...cannot sleep...and all the other cable channels are trying to sell me some product I could care less about...then and only then might I watch.
Are you kidding me?
Seriously.
After seeing the lesbians MTV found for their show NEXT, I feel like this Tila Tequila show is going to be trashy enough to turn into a guilty pleasure.
Also, her fake last name is Tequila! How could you not want to watch the show knowing that?

Dear gods
karman, please say you'll recap this. Pretty please?

Meh!

I shall pass.
Eww...I feel like I just
Eww...I feel like I just caught a disease just looking at her picture! I can't even picture the reject level of the lesbians that would try to date this skank. I hope the entire lot of them walk off the show the minute they are introduced to their blow up doll of a potential paramour.

You have NO idea how much I
I would like to see recaps
I may be in the minority here, but this is the first les-bi reality dating show. I think it's worthy of weekly recaps....at least for the first few episodes. Who's with me?
yea...
Real Lesbians Rock!
Jillie, Dara and Karman
Jillie, Dara and Karman would have a frigging field trip torching this skankfest.
I'd love to watch!
I mean, I would probably try
I mean, I would probably try out for this show...
I wonder how much of a skank that makes me..

*Cringe*
With MTV shows there's always a catch.. and this one has three catches:
1. It's Ms. Tequila from MySpace :/
2. Bi
3. Straight Guys
I would be shocked too, if she ends up with a girl. All in all, like most have mentioned this is going to be trashy.

Remember: Dismissed?
Didn't MTV try the whole lesbian/bi/Gay guys dating thing on Dismissed? Gosh I have not watched that in years.. But from what I remember of it.. I don't think it worked properly..
Like someone mentioned somewhere above.. that it's about guilty pleasures.. which is what this show will end up as.. not to mention probably make our "team" look really bad and down right blah.. I dunno, I just wished they stuck to just a girls thing rather then involving guys.. I am not a bi hater or anything, but I believe for once they should start respecting things like this and actually try and do a good dating show.
I guess MTV isn't ready yet for that, and must involve twists and predictable catches.
Has anyone also seen that one show about staying the weekend with you ex while the current bf and gf you're dating spies in another room? I saw this show when I was in the States on my vacation and I could not believe that MTV are putting up shows like these.. it's like mini version of Temptation Island.. except you're dumped cause you couldn't last 2/3 days without your current bf/gf [well sometimes].
sorry, i dunno where i am going with this.. I guess I wanted to see an actual average, normal, person who is recently out and wants to find someone, but having Tila on the show just goes to show that MTV doesn't make great decisions/executions.

Dismissed
I remember what you're talking about. It was usually a breeder thing but, they had "a very special episode" once that involved a bi girl. She went on a date with two guys one day and the next day went on a date with two girls. Funnily enough, she chose one of the ladies in the end.
It actually wasn't bad television. Mostly because the dater-girl seemed really sincere, and sweet and genuinely curious.
As for A Shot at Love, I'm on the fence. I think that I'm obligated to watch the premiere episode. At least, to check out the chicks... that aren't Tila. 'Cause... eww.
~It means pride.~
Really?
That's something I probably missed out watching on MTV.. but there was one epi where this girl who just came out the closet and she went on a date with this very out girl and this other girl who was quite calm about being out and not aggressive like the other. In the end the recently out girl hooked up with the calmer one. :] It wasn't a bad show, but the rest were blah compared to the very few specials they had on which were more interesting to watch.
LOL I agree with you on the "eww" part ;p

Perfect stereotype
This is an ultimate straight male's fantasy of a bisexual woman: a skanky blow-up doll. I think this show is gonna perpetuate the bi stereotype as much as mainstream movies with psycho/suicidal lesbians.

From looking at her pictures I can say that at least it looks like she is just looking for just love and understanding.

"a tad suspicious"
And colour me a tad suspicious of the "freshly out of the closet" designator as anything other than a marketing ploy, or a fashion-statement.
It is interesting that her decision to come out coincided with the opportunity to star in a reality tv show...
*nods*
I mean, jees ... wasn't it just LUCKY that a show happened along precisely at the time she was coming out? Wow, wish I could have been that lucky (not). If I were a cynic I'd say that this might have just been done for the money.
Good thing I'm not cynical, eh?

This is going to make lugs/bugs look genuine.
Why is she automatically labeled a skank?
"I don't understand why she
"I don't understand why she is automatically labeled a skank."
Her pictures and her words. Her definition of bisexual. And, probably if I met her, every other single thing about her. If she comes across as anything more than a skank on the show I will be shocked. And, no, I am not expecting to be shocked at all.
Do you know something we don't? Is she all virtuous and wholesome in direct contrast to every picture and every word she's ever muttered? Uh huh.

Ha. I just googled her
Ha. I just googled her (and now I need a bath!) and you can just disregard anything she says as adding to her skankiness because it's completely unnecessary. Just do a google image search but make sure you have the adult content filter off! She is the definition of skank.

so only wholesome and virtuous girls are worthwhile
am i the only one who thinks
am i the only one who thinks tila tequila is hot????
personally I'm sick of everyone judging bisexuals. sure, there are a few out there that give the rest a bad name, but all of them aren't like that. A lot of people are genuinly bisexual.
Yes!
"am i the only one who thinks tila tequila is hot?"
I'm afraid you're flying solo on that one.
no you aren't

I wouldn't mind if she was shot on second thoughts...
Just kidding. Violence is bad kids.
But as for you Karman, once again you are my hero for your inspirational sarcastic ways:
"I'm not sure which stereotypes are going to busted by A Shot at Love. "
And, to echo the opinions of others before me:
PLEASE start vlog recapping of this show once it starts! I will love you forever?
And if my unconditional love isn't enough, I'm sure I can always bake cookies/buy you candy for your efforts (granted, they may be stale after the trip from Austalia, assuming of course that they pass customs undetected. But hey beggars can't be choosers.) And if that isn't enough... then I suppose I might even beg if nescessary?
Pleasepleaseplease?
That'd Be Awesome
If the "We're Getting Nowhere" team recapped this.. I'd watch the vlog's instead ;] and the re-enactment would be hilarious.
But more importantly, talk about "do's" and "don'ts" of each epi.. for women who are recently out or trying to come out. It'd be like "what to do when you're recently out" or something. It'd be more like an advice then anything else.

First and foremost Ms. Trashy Tequila is not attractive in any way, shape, or form. Regardless if she was famous well I say "infamous"or not I would say the same thing, how can she expect any human being in their right mind to take her seriously? Aaaaand the whole "Bi-sexual" thing is soooo played out, MY DEFINTION OF BISEXUAL is>>>>>>GREEDY. There is a difference betweem being sexy and just down right skanky! Needless to say Tequila fits into the last catergory. Presentation is everything and she presents herself as a "Part-time Hoe"...
(rolling my eyes and gagging at the same time)
she's soooo pittiful...the end

"Aaaaand the whole "Bi-sexual" thing is soooo played out, MY DEFINTION OF BISEXUAL is>>>>>>GREEDY"
Wow. those are some pretty broad generalizations. I'm trying to imagine what the reaction of the commenters on here would be if you replaced "bisexual" in those posts with "lesbian".
Not that I think this is going to be a good show, based on the airheadedness of Tila Tequila's quotes in the blog, and the premise of the show (since MTV seems to be setting it up as "lesbians vs. straight men"). Though I might watch it anyway, to see the train wreck.
Well Honestly...
When I read this I couldn't
Wow...
First off - I know we're all for visibility and everything but I value reputation more. I rather have no show at all than one that will perpetuate some frat boy's wet dream. It pains me to watch straight skanks - lesbian skanks will just be worse because there are people out there who will believe ALL lesbians are like that. And if you DON'T think that the girls (including Tila herself) will be portrayed as skanks then obviously you've never seen a reality show. MTV (who launched Logo by the way) is really disappointing me on this one.
Secondly - the ignorance against bisexuality is disgusting. Just because you don't prefer something or understand something does not mean it is discredited in any way. I used to think this place was a safe haven for everyone. But this is not the first time I've been wrong. There is just as much ignorance within this very community as there is out in the "real' world. I don't know why I assumed it'd be different.
Next time you want to speak out against someone or even a group of people - imagine yourself in their shoes before you open your mouth. What goes around, comes around and you will reap what you sow. And even if you don't believe that - then believe in being a decent person who will set a good example for others in hope that they will follow.
