Liz Feldman and Darlene Hunt developing NBC series with lesbian lead character

Sources have told AfterEllen.com that out comic Liz Feldman (The Jay Leno Show, This Just Out) and writer Darlene Hunt (Will and Grace, The C Word) are developing a female buddy comedy with a lesbian lead character for NBC.

Maybe the lesbian waters that have recently been tested by Hayden Panettiere's Claire on Heroes will embolden NBC to give lesbians more visibility on the network

If not, perhaps the hypnotic power of Feldman's blue blazer will simply make her (and her show) impossible to resist.

Female buddy comedies have a long and successful television history:

I Love Lucy

Laverne and Shirley

Living Single

Sex and the City

Wouldn't it be great to continue in that tradition, but with an out lesbian lead? And with story lines that don't require us to make do with subtext?

No word yet on if the the series will get picked up, when it might go into production or who would be cast in the starring roles, but the very thought of it does stimulate the imagination.

    If this actually gets picked up it would be - what's the word? - EPIC. And I cast my vote for lesbian lead to Leisha Hailey. She needs to be back on my TV making me laugh and laugh and laugh.

    only if the straight side-kick was Leslie Grossman (she played Mary Cherry on Popular with TLE.) They were awesome together in Popular and I think they could really bring that magic back!

    BRIDGET --Yes, I am prejudiced -- But My God, she has it all.  She's not hung up on herself, doesn't have to look in every mirror she passes, is well educated and most importantly, she has talent and is FUNNY.

    I absolutely love Liz Feldman, I want to be the blue blazer on her boobs. 

    And my vote goes to her for being the lead in the show. But if not Liz, then definitely Ellen Page. Mmm mmm good.

    Man! Fab to have a possible female buddy movie/TV series! If only this wasn't 2009 and wasn't epic (ie there had already been serveral successful and brillaint buddy movies and TV series) but unfortunatly my time machine isn't working right now!

    I for one, can't wait to see this!
