Katee Sackhoff jumps to “24”

Battlestar Galactica fans will be pleased to learn that Katee Sackhoff (aka “Starbuck”) has just signed on for the new season for the Fox drama 24.

According to Fox, Sackhoff will play Dana Walsh, an expert data analyst “with a secret” at CTU who is involved with agent Davis Cole (Freddie Prinze Jr.). Starbuck trapped behind a computer with no booze or cigars? Tragic. No word yet on whether plot twists will require her techie character to also brandish weapons, ride motorcycles, or beat bad guys into submission, but we can always hope.

Also joining the cast this season will be Jennifer Westfeldt as an ambitious journalist, Mykelti Williamson, Anil Kapoor and Chris Diamantopoulos.

The returning cast includes Annie Wersching, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Kiefer Sutherland and Cherry Jones as the U.S. President. This will mark Sackhoff’s second role on a television show that features a female president (the first being Mary McDonnell as Battlestar Galactica‘s President Laura Roslin). Somehow that just makes sense, doesn’t it?

The next season will be kicked off with a two-night four-hour premiere on January 17, 2010 on FOX, with most of the story taking place in New York City.

In addition to her confirmed role on 24, it was recently rumored that Sackhoff is angling for the role of comic book supervillain “Typhoid Mary” (from Marvel’s Daredevil series).

MTV’s Splash Page reports that Sackhoff was spotted at the Los Angeles-based store Golden Apple Comics, where she bought a “significant amount” of comics featuring that character and told the clerk that she was hoping to land a role in a Marvel movie. Splash Page notes, however, that the character of Typhoid Mary could appear in one of several different movies; a rumored Elektra “reboot,” Ryan Reynolds‘s new “Deadpool” feature, or the upcoming “Avengers” film. (As a fan of Reynolds, I’m hoping it’s “Deadpool”.)

If Sackhoff’s scene-stealing turn as the evil cyborg on NBC’s short-lived Bionic Woman is any indication of how she would play Typhoid Mary, then I’m in!

Do you think Sackhoff is right for either 24 or “Typhoid Mary?”
