We're counting down the days until the premiere of the final season of The L Word. How will we entertain ourselves in the meantime? By talking about everything we've loved and hated about the show over the last five years! This week, Dara and I recall the highs (Carmen!), the lows (Max!) and the moments of extreme weirdness (Jenny and Sounder!) that have comprised all five seasons of The L Word.
Along the way, we also recall the special guests (Jane Lynch, Holland Taylor, Elizabeth Keener) that have provided a surprising amount of magic to the show when they joined the regular cast for lesbian hijinks. So, in the words of Dawn Denbo, "It's on!" Have any favorites or least favorites that you'd like to share with the class? Let us know! Dara & Karman's Hit List "The Best and Worst of The L Word" (Episode 13)

The good one?
exactly what I've said
exactly what I've said below. Karman is infinetly better than Carmen!
oh and also like i thnk someone else said, Shane didn't want Carmen to answer the phone, but she did anyways!

Carmen
double post
Sarah Shahi is smokin'
And that sexy dance scene was to die for NOT answer the phone! Dumb "Chane" for letting her go...
But, she was on the Lez Boat...Freaky Jenny kept pushing "Chane" and Carmen together on the dance floor...
Nice walk down train wreck lane. Sad to see it go! 8(
One of my favs was the B-Ball scene in season 4...Alice rockin' the big a$$ rope necklace...
the "Bushy Asses" vs. Papi's team
I thought Molly was a
well...
correction...
and now i realize i'm not
Haha awesome list...
Five years already!
Even if there's been a LOT of weird stuff going on for 5 years, i'm quite sad it's coming to an end, specially reading about the spin off!
The low is definitely Dana dying, the up is pretty much the fact that this is a lesbian show!
Great show guys!
Everything with passion, nothing with talent...
Carmen did go on the cruise!
Carmen did go on the cruise! Jenny kept trying to get her and Shane together because she'd seen the tape! haha everlasting gobstopper of hotness. but seriosuly, she is hot in sex scenes etc but i don't really notice her otherwise.. i guess she's not my type.. i didn't connect to her personality. you guys are both better than Carmen, you'd be way better to spend time with, she's not the better Carmen/Karman!! :p
the top Paige is wearing at 10:25 is like one i just ordered (but with longer sleeves).. yeh.. and an aweomse pink robot t-shirt too. there's an epic t-shirt at the US missy higgins store but £30 is too much to spend methinks!
like you discussing the l word since i know it, often i don't know what you're talking about!

What about Rachel Shelley
What about Rachel Shelley in season 2 - she was a new addition.
I also liked the theme tune pre-Betty.
I also liked Molly, and the whole straight girl falls for girl storyline with Shane. It also brought out a less cadd-ish side in Shane too.
Dana's death was unncessary, totally agree there. What an awful message to send out to people. No-one needed to die, really, and there would have been other characters whose energy wouldn't be missed. Dana's absence from the show is still very noticeable imo, she was so idiosyncractic in her ways, noone could replace that gap in the line up.
Overall, l think I liked Season 1 the best... as it did have that new-ness, and they hadn't had a chance to see it air yet and then fck it up! lol
Oh, and also, those sex scenes with Tim, and Mark in Season 2... I was always under the impression, however falsely, that the show was for everyone. Obviously Lgbt representation in this way on screen had never existed before, but ultimately it was for everyone. If it had been completely totally lesbian action 100% of the time with no look in on other lifestyles at all, then it wouldn't have been as easy for perhaps viewers from different backgrounds to find a route in. That didn't stop the Mark storyline from being totally sucky though.
Weakkk.
(: I was laughing non-stop!
Dara's looking good in these vlogs.
What about Molly? I thought
What about Molly? I thought she deserved a mention. And the Jenny/Nikki strap on scene??

LOL had me cracking up...
Trees and Dara
I really wish
Not really a fan
I'm not a huge fan of TLW. I got most of my information about the show on AE. Currently, I'm not certain if I plan on tuning in for the last season, or just getting my highlights (and lowlights) here.
My opinion of the low - Season Three with crazy-ass Alice and dying Dana; favourite moment - either when Alice and Dana hooked up while making the gift bags for Dana's wedding or when Dana's suitcase got held up at Security; and the corniest moment - the giant Dana head over the waterfalls.
And, just on a side note....it seems that perhaps Dara has been slightly too violent with her cowbell. That's a lot of tape holding it together! ; )
"That which you believe becomes your world."
so many memories so lil time:)
So, this was a fast track review i know but what about the famous basketball scene with Papi and all that trash talk, the famous split screen seen with alice shane bette etc on the phone...Jenny was a crack up when she borrowed the dudes phone and put on the accent, my god the kiss with Dana and the soux chef Lara...i loved her, the redemption of Tina...thank god she came back from the dark side and twice as hot as before i may say...season 5 Tina..wow, i also thought the sex scenes with Shane and Paige were still hot even with the whole tree thing...Kristanna is hot i have to say, especially in that flashback to the 50's thing!!!.I dont think you even mentioned Helena, who i think as a character coming in did a great job too...anyway as i said so many things....and whatever the view on the show..we will miss the show and the content on tv ...i have a bad feeling it will be a long time before we see it again...god bless em all i say....ok well especially Carmen , god damn that girl is hot.....lol
peace, andy
DARA LOOKS GREAT!!!
I saw the first episode already...
and it was kind of disappointing but I thought all first episodes were (exept in season 1 of course).
And just another correction: Jenny was the director not a producer (I think that would be Tina) but anyway...
Yey to 'sparkleandtwinkle' asking about Rachel Shelley? Helena had everything. She was hot and bossy(powersuits look good on her also), naive and funny and oh yeah, the ultimate savior (killer of Dawn Denbo). Her character had gone through the most outstanding change. And did I mention she's hot?
Just one last thing: THE PRISON WALL SCENE: I still can't believe how talented Jennifer Beals is. There aren't a lot actresses who could have done that scene, if you you ask me.
am i the only person in the
No, you are not!
I'm 5'11 and now I feel like
I'm 5'11 and now I feel like a tree. lol
I still miss Dana and Carmen.
Carmen
was the best thing that ever happened to The L Word. Carmen! Dear God. She's just about everything I dream of.
But I have to stand up for Moira/Max - one of my favourite characters on the show. Sure, he was badly written and Daniela Sea isn't the best actress in the world (someone get that facial hair off her!) but I love Max.
the terrible three!
i also would really want to see you guys recap the final season! it seems like a fun way of putting the series to a close. and i also think that its somewhat appropriate. plus i REALLY miss Jill. :(
i might be of minority but i don't really get the Carmen thing. ok, ok. i think she's hot but i don't see anything special about her. Lara is more my cup of tea. i just don't understand why they didn't keep her. for crying out loud they kept Max! even Papi got a whole season's worth of story lines. why not her??? Lauren Lee Smith is just...urgh... something else!! :x
--------------------------------------------------------------
I am the person who has to hide what this world needs most, love.helena??
what about helena?? now there's an everlasting gobstopper of hotness!! plus she was in 4 out of 5 seasons, surely she deserves a mention? and rachel shelley is fricken awesome
Worst major event of the show is definitely Dana's death.. Still holding that grudge! Damn you Ilene!
As for the best, too many to choose from :) Despite the often questionable storylines/characters/dialogue etc i love the show, i think it's really awesome and i can't wait for the sixth season to start.
Theme boo-sic
At some point-I don't remember when- the theme music began to suck. The music sucked really hard. In fact, did I mention it sucked?
However the entertainers that preformed i.e., Peaches, rocked. And of course the heat the rose out of the incendiary sex scences and smokin' ladies made up for the vacume of suck that came from the intro song. Thus, it was forgivable; in my oh so fat opinion.
Sara/Carmen is not God
Bad things about The L Word
1 - Marina: she was cut off in the second season with a terrible lame excuse. That Jenny/Marina affair could've gone on and on for seasons.
2 - Dana: I still don't understand what the point was of killing her.
3 - Alice and Lara: why on Earth would they become a couple right after Dana died? I think they just wanted to keep Lara for some more episodes.
4 - Max and her boyfriends: it's so not convincing that Max (a girl who wants to become a man) would wanna hook up with a man, and she hooked up with two (Billie and Tom)!!! Max is a Lesbian!!! Or a straight man!!! No way she's gonna be attracted to men...
5 - Not very convincing lesbians: okay you guys, we are all lesbians and we kinda know when a person is a lesbian or not and there are some characters on The L Word that are too straight in my opinion, like Carmen, Nikki, Jenny (5th season) and Helena. I'm not saying that lesbians should all be stone butches, but my gaydar didn't ring at all when I saw those characters. On the other hand, the show has a lot of convincing lesbians, like Bette, Shane, Alice, Dana, Marina, Tasha, Jodi and even Tina.
The worst thing of The L Word: JENNY!!!
favourite line:
- "I don't care if it's God on the phone, you don't..."
- "It's NOT God on the phone 'cause God is in front of you taking her clothes off!"
- "Exactly!"
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I'm a tree girl...
At 6'3" I tower over all whom I date. It's a sad fact, but a true one. I must say though, it's actually quite convenient and fun using all my branches while in bed. So don't diss the tree girls until you've tried one.
;)
I'm still waiting for the
I'm still waiting for the drag episode that was promised in the "lesbian stereotypes" episode... ;)
The worst of the L Word:
The sacking of Papi
All of the other characters that were thrown out were, somehow, written out. Papi just never appeared again in S5! I know that there are supposed to be 6 months between the end of S4 and the beginning of S5, but Papi was never even *mentioned* again. I thought Tasha was her best friend? Shouldn't she at least said something along the lines of "Yes, Kit broke Papi's heart so Papi moved to the other end of LA to not see Kit every day", or "Papi's limousine service was groundbreaking and they relocated her to NY!"?
But then again, Dana, everyone's (best) friend, was only mentioned twice (or three times) after her death. (Once in Alice's living room and then for the Subaru Pink Ride.) That was lame.
Dana
Damnit!
I was trying so hard to not know who was getting killed off.
Crap.
Dana
A "Bright" Idea
Sallysays:
No IC decided she wanted to do a storyline about Breast Cancer and how it affects 1 in 3 women. So she decided to use Dana. Erin Daniels was totally blindsided with this storyline. You can hear it on the extras on the Season 3 DVD or internet search where you can read how IC asked ED to lunch and told her the direction of her character...just out the blue.
SO yeah it was like, "Lets kill Dana this season"
Still white hott with rage about that.
oh no!!
That DOES make it way way way more brutal. WHAT!?!?!?
I sobbed my eyes out for THAT? We lost Dana for THAT?
IC couldn't have handled a breast cancer plotline better than THAT?
Dear god.
dana...
they should have killed somebody else. i mean, they had a lot of options.
the show lost something when they killed her.
but anyway...good job dara & karman!
You only live once!
Urgh, Niki Stevens?
