Anna Faris to star in two new comedies

Scary Movie franchise vet Anna Faris has two new projects in the works, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The first is an untitled Paramount film described in Hollywood Reporter as "a female buddy comedy following two estranged sisters who team up to land a husband." Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith, the women who wrote Faris's 2008 vehicle, House Bunny, will be scripting this film as well.

In case you missed it, House Bunny (which Faris also executive produced) is a comedy about a former Playboy bunny who gets evicted from Hef's Mansion and finds new "work" as the house mother of a sorority full of unpopular coeds. There she transforms dorky smart girls into hoochie girls like her!

Watch the House Bunny trailer here (and note the presence of the always awesome Beverly D'Angelo and former American Idol contestant Katherine McPhee).

The second project, acquired by Columbia, is the romantic comedy 20 Times a Lady. Based on the book by Karyn Bosnak, Hollywood Reporter describes it as centering on "a woman who goes on a trek through her sexual past in an effort to find Mr. Right, exploring the idea of a person's sexual quota and whether those numbers matter." The script is written by Jennifer Crittenden and Gabrielle Allan, and Faris will star in the film.

I'm a huge fan of Anna Faris, and find her to be the ultimate scene-stealer and her performances often remind me of Goldie Hawn at her best (Private Benjamin!) In fact, I'm proud to say that Just Friends (starring Ryan Reynolds) is one of my favorite movies, if for no other reason that Faris's thinly-veiled Britney Spears impersonation. (Do an internet search for Faris's song "Forgiveness," which sounds like the malformed sonic love child of Spears and Alanis Morissette.)

However, if you're like me, you're not necessarily bedazzled by films about women learning how to walk in stilettos, husband-hunting, or anguishing over whether or not their sexual antics qualify them as "sluts." Let's just say that I usually can't relate to relentlessly hetero-romantic comedies.

So why am I still happy to hear about all of these films? Take a look at her team. Faris, McCullah Lutz and Smith are women who consistently turn out films with female leads, telling stories written by women. The recent success of House Bunny (it grossed almost $50 million domestically) is proof that Faris can open a comedy, something that, the Hollywood Reporter notes,"is almost exclusively the domain of men."

So I'll see anything Faris does, simply because she always makes me laugh. And I'll see it on opening weekend because it sends a message to studios that talented women like Faris can make them some serious money. And if she ever stars in a movie about a woman that kicks ass, takes names, isn't in hot pursuit of a man, and also keeps her clothes on? Well, I'll happily go see that one too.

Surely I can't be her only lesbian devotee. What's your favorite Faris moment?

i love anna faris with all my heart.

my fav. faris moment would have to be...Smiley Face. that movie absolutely hilarious.

i saw Just Friends and thought that the combination of ryan reynolds and faris was a bit too much and to pause it cos it was so funny.

her comedic timing and facial expressions are what makes he roles in movies. and shes hot.

totally there.

anna faris is hysterical. the house bunny = fabulous. no matter how cheesy or crappy the movie, she's always rocked every part and stolen the show (from the scary movie franchise to brokeback mtn to her slew of friends' episodes). so glad to see she's finally getting the recognition she deserves.

I watched the house bunny

I watched the house bunny last weekend not really expecting much and was very pleasantly surprised. She is hilarious. In fact, just thinking of her doing the weird deep voice to remember peoples names makes me chuckle to myself. Love a girl who's comfortable enough in hersef to be that ridiculous.

May

Faris as the odd lesbian vet receptionist in Lucky McKee's dark masterpiece May is incredible. She's funny, sexy and shows her ability to be in a serious flick as well as a comedy. Fans of Faris should definitely check it out.

I agree

It's a unique horror movie and she shines in it. Angela Bettis, who plays lesbian again in Sick Girl, is also brilliant in it.

I think I may.

Double yes to this. Any and all of Anna's scenes in May are awesome. And of course we know why. :) I also like her in Southern Belles, kind of a comedy-drama. She's funny as hell, but she really shines in more serious roles.

MAY! YES!

May is one of my favorite movies.  It's very overlooked in the horror/thriller genre and it shouldn't be.  I was surprised as hell with Anna playing a lesbian but thrilled, of course!  And the girl playing Amber (I think that was her name. The one with the great gams) was seriously hot.

I also love Just Friends.  I remember seeing it for the first time last year and I could not. stop. laughing.

Smiley Face

She was freaking histerical as Jane!!!  I love the part where she's freaking out because she's super paranoid high and she tries hiding under the furniture in the professor's house and his mother is just watching her hardly phased.  I also love her journey with the Communist Manifesto.

Haven't seen her in anything

Haven't seen her in anything else except Lost in Translation (meh) but I love her in the Scary Movie films, especially the first one. Her expressions are fantastic.

"But Ginger Was Such an Important Part of the Spice Girls"

The first Scary Movie, I laughed so much back then and I still do now.

She is phenomenal. She has the sort of appeal to me when it comes to her work, that as soon as I buy a ticket for a movie she's in, a DVD, anything .. I know it's a done deal, I know I'm laughing no matter what. And yes, "Just Friends" is a personal fav of mine as well, I just constantly giggle on the edge of my seat everytime she's on screen.

I often...

call my mom and do the voice Anna Faris did to recall names in House Bunny, I saw the trailer and I thought it would be a funny movie, but I couldn't stop laughing, I think it was Anna Faris at her best...so far.

"i don't suffer from insanity...i enjoy every minute of it"

Aaaand now

I will sing Forgiveness all day.

She is so funny, especially in Just Friends when she has a concussion and she's eating toothpaste, and she looks at Ryan Reynolds and says "i'm a bubble!"

Hahahahaha brilliant.

i love her!

Her movies remind me of like a Superbad type movie with female leads. I think its hilarious. And house bunny cracks me up. And it doesn't hurt that she has a great rear that you get to see in that movie either :D
