Penélope Cruz wins twice in one weekThe
In her acceptance speech, Penélope joked about being the first Oscar winner ever to faint on stage. Thankfully, Penélope didn’t pass out. Instead she made an impassioned speech about the power of art and how art is a universal language. She then went on to thank her country and the actors of her country in her native tongue.
If you haven’t seen Vicky Cristina Barcelona yet, turn off your computer and rent it. In my humble opinion, it’s one of the best movies of the year, and I’m not just saying that because Penélope Cruzes with sexiness in it. Sorry, I have a penchant for turning gorgeous actresses’ last names into verbs. Example: Cobie Smulders with hotness.
Vicky Cristina Barcelona is smart, funny, unique and — did I mention? — hot. Penélope — cruzing sexiness aside — steals every scene she’s in and that’s no small feat when you consider that she’s acting with Spaniard and Academy Award winner Javier Bardem.
So, yeah, I kind of love the movie. And how could I not? It’s set in gorgeous Barcelona and Penélope makes out with Scarlett Johansson in it. Yeah. Good stuff. I never thought I’d write this in my life, but thank you, Woody Allen; thank you. Submitted by on February 23, 2009 - 3:00pm. |

I haven't seen the movie
I haven't seen the movie yet (and I'm from Spain) but I'll definitely see it for 3 reasons:
1. Penelope
2. Penelope
3. Penelope
Did I mention Penelope?? She deserves everything and she's so HOT!!!

I was so happy she thanked Pedro Almodovar in her acceptance speech at the Oscars! He's by far my favorite director, and having Penelope work with him in Volver was a dream come true for me! Although I wish Penelope had won for Volver a couple of years ago, I'm glad she won now. She is such a beautiful, talented woman.

You know Bianca, that it is Pedro who sort of discovered Penelope and made her famous in Spain and around Europe? They did more movies together than Volver, such as "All about my mother" and Carne Tremula (Live Flesh).. go, rent, rent my beauties :) Not only for Penny but also for the spanish craziness that is Almodavar..
I think you will also be delighted to hear that Pedro + Penelope teamed up again with his new movie coming out this year "Los Abrazos Rotos" - the Broken Embraces. I know can't wait myself!// those harper seals are biaaatchesss - Bridget McManus //
Oh, yes, I've seen both All
Oh, yes, I've seen both All About My Mother and Live Flesh, but Volver was much more satifisfying for me for a number reasons, especially since Penelope was the star of that film. All of Almodovar's movies are amazing (Bad Education is my favorite... God, that movie is flawless!), and I'm very much looking forward to Broken Embraces, too.
Penelope and Almodovar are an amazing team! When she won, I turned to my mom, and said, "Please let her mention Pedro Almodovar!" and less than a minute later, she said his name. I was so happy! <3

Cruz my heart why won't ya ;)
Oh Penelope! Even if she wasn't smoking hot, she still can act. She indeed steals every scene in that movie - for me she hijacks the entire movie from the moment she waltzes in, even though the performances of all the other actors are also sublime. She is the queen of drama and she adds such depths even when just sulking at the table :)
"who's talking about talent? I'm fucking genious... GE-NIO-US!" - now imagine how she yells it passionately with her sweet Spanish accent.. ahh
The movie itself is funny, charming and light, but has some dick flaws here and there (such as Scarlett excusing her "fling" with Penelope by assuring how much she still loves penis (really, Scarlett, really?) and the major lesbeau kiss being obscured and blurred by the red lighting while we get a good view of Javier humping Scarlett as a good het boy (as Woody would, wouldn't he?).. I was sad to see the girls never really kiss in daylight :(
Still a nice romantic comedy, with Penelope as the gem bonus!

Hotness
I still haven't seen this movie, but it's still in theatres over here.
Will definitely check it out.
I'm sure it's a great movie, but I'd watch it for all the hotness alone.

the movie that is. I've seen bits and pieces of it, but it just doesn't interests me. Penelope is hot, and I digg the accent, I'll give ya that, but I don't get the movie.
And let's not talk about ScarJo, I've not seen 1 movie where I liked her.

Well if you don't fancy Scar Jo then the movie is sooo not for you, since it's chock full of her..
but the movie is still worth seing from the beginning for the Barcelona and Cruzy Cruz alone (even despite all the het sexors). Cruz utterly pwns this thing.

Penelope the Cruzness
She was spectacular in Vicky Cristina Bercelona! ANd I've watched her other brilliant performances - especially in Volver 2 years ago. She so deserved to win. And she's always been a bit ac/dc to me. All those rumours back in Spain, and her "friendship" with Salma Hayek...
The only flaw I can see in her is that she dated Tom the fake Cruise back in the day. I'll put it down youthful indiscretion.
