The "Sex and the City" sequel will come out next spring

Sex addicts, get ready for round two: The sequel to the wildly successful Sex and the City movie will be here before you know it.

New Line Cinema announced the movie will hit theaters on May 28, 2010, which gives us plenty of time to circulate some cast and plot rumors. While Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall, Kristen Davis and director/writer Michael Patrick King are all aboard, word is Chris Noth’s Mr. Big is having commitment issues yet again — this time negotiating his paycheck.

I’m pretty confident they will work that out, considering the first movie raked in nearly $56 million on opening weekend alone. Jennifer Hudson, who played Carrie’s assistant Louise in the first movie, is also anxious to get on board.

“I would love [to play Louise again],” she told Access Hollywood, “I told Michael Patrick King, I said that Louise has moved back to New York from St. Louis, so … I’ll be ready if that opportunity comes.”

Even Carrie’s long lost ex Aiden Shaw wouldn’t mind popping in.

“If something came my way, I’d jump on it. But I think Aidan’s come and gone from that show,” John Corbett said in an Access Hollywood interview. “I think it’s really more about the girls and Carrie and Big now, so I don’t think there’s a place for him in there.”

True that, Mr. Corbett — it has always been about the girls. While I couldn’t help but be a little pissed off at Big’s stunt and Carrie’s willingness to deal with it yet again in the last movie, I hope this time Big (if his scheduling/paycheck issues get sorted out) can leave the commitment-phobia behind. You know, being married and all.

Thankfully, Parker told MTV that a baby would not likely be on the way for Mr. and Ms. Big:

[Motherhood] doesn’t seem as if that’s going to be a choice she’ll make. It feels a little bit manipulative to toss that into the mix because she seems so pointed in a different direction.

Phew — but what else will happen with our favorite New York foursome? While more fashion, man drama and hilarious brunch-time conversations are to be expected, some Manolo might be missing.

Parker told Access Hollywood they were working to make the film more “recession friendly.”

There is a lot that we have to think about because times are very different.

What would you like to see in the Sex and the City sequel? I mean, other than the obvious: Miranda taking a girl on the side. Hey, she did say she wanted to have “more fun” this time around.

    Entertainment.

The tv series was hilarious. I wasn't into it for the fashion, etc, etc., but it was very entertaining. My favorite thing about it, was the friendship between the women and how screwed up there relationships were with men, Samantha's my favorite. Hated the movie though.

    not quite the show...

I loved watching the show, but I thought the movie was terrible. Way too hokey, or something. All my friends were crying through the whole thing, and I was just rolling my eyes (although I did like Samantha's storyline). I hope this one will be better!

    Hope For A Good Sequel........

I may be condemed for saying this, but the movie was horrible. I am a huge fan of the tv series, was a follower from the very first epsiode, and never missed an episode. But the movie...not-so-much! I was devastated when I saw the movie. The movie had no structure at all and there was too much product placement in it for me. I felt like I was watching the superbowl commercials.

Be that as it may, I am glad that this movie had a leading cast of women, and proved that women can put up high box office numbers, which is a good thing.  I will always support that.

I believe in giving second chances.  Hopefully, they will get it right the second time around.

I loved the tv series, but

I loved the tv series, but not the film. The film was a waste of money, even though it was obviously made in order to cash in on the success of the tv show and its fan base.

I won't go to the cinema to watch this follow up but will just watch it on DVD instead.

I agree with most. The T.V.

I agree with most. The T.V. show was amazing, but the movie was soo lackluster. Awful, awful movie.

    Meh.

I am a huge fan of the show and have seen every single episode, many more than once, but the movie stunk. It was boring, depressing and, sorry, but Jennifer Hudson's acting was awful. It didn't have those laugh-out-loud moments or commentary I loved from the show. Honestly, the movie taught me that sex is by far the most important thing in a relationship. Lame. I'm not looking forward to a sequel.

    Are you

kidding me? The movie was awful and so was the show itself. I'd rather see a L Word movie instead... lol.

    SITC was fabulous. Period.

SITC is probably one of my all-time favorite shows. I remember watching it from the very first show on HBO, and because I had such cheap friends, no one ever knew what the hell I was talking about when I would ask them about it. But there was just something about the way these four women were such loyal friends through thick and thin that was so fascinating to watch. Even though I'm no girly girl fashionista, you would have to be blind not to appreciate these ladies in their heels. Also the writing was just plain funny, genuine, and most of all, sincere.

It was not just about the laughs, although there were plenty of those, nor was it just about the sex scenes, although there were plenty of those as well - no - the show had a soul. It didn't try to be some melodramatic tear jerker or an all female version of "Friends". The thing that separated SITC from the pack, and thus solidified its place in television history, was the fact that for the first time, the female characters were the story. Sure they had relationships, and were always on the hunt for the perfect mate, but the truth was, their friendship was the story. The male characters came and went, some times they stayed longer then most, e.g. Big and Steve. But the central theme was female companionship and female relationships. Not to mention the fact, that these ladies were attractive to look at. Each had their own little personality that only added to their cute quotient. It is for these reasons alone that I don't understand why more lesbians weren't fans of the show.

Yes you could argue that the entire show centered around the pursuit of a "male" relationship. But I would argue that if you really watch the show, and follow the story lines, you will quickly realize, the real central point of the show is the woman themselves, and how they deal with all of life's complexities.

Was the film version as great as the series? No. How could it be? Television is television, and film is film. Name one big-screen movie that truly lived up to its television predecessor? There is no way you can translate all of the intricate little qualities that made the series so great, into a 2 hour film. It's just not possible.

Was the film decent? Yes. Definitely better then the usual female-driven romantic comedy released in recent memory. "Bride Wars" anyone??? As for the second film, as long as it stays true to the television versions of the characters, it shouldn't suck. The fact that Carrie supposedly isn't having a baby is great news. Fans of the series know she would choose love over a child, if she had to that is...

Either way, any show/film depicting women as more then sexual objects for ANY sex, is A okay with me. Can't wait till SITC 2.

PS - I have to second the previous observation with regards to Jennifer Hudson's performance. I wanted to love her sooo much! But either her lines sucked, or it really was her acting. Sigh. Maybe she should stick to singing......

    Bra question

Never watched the tv show, but I've seen the movie. Can someone please explain to me why they wear bras with backless dresses? A bra strap sneaking out of a tank top is fine, but an entire back of the bra glaring at you in a backless dress is just plain tacky.

    I noticed that

and am in total agreement with you

    This is why

This is why Lauren Graham should be involved in every project: because other people just can't figure out when something's over!
