Robert Rodriguez wants Lindsay Lohan on board for "Machete"

Following Lindsay Lohan’s initial breakup with Samantha Ronson, there was a lot of talk about Lohan getting her career back on track. While this has yet to be seen, and some filmmakers are nervous about taking a chance on the drama-filled actress, director Robert Rodriguez recently announced that he wants Lilo for his upcoming (and much anticipated) project, Machete.

Ever since Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino teamed up for their Grindhouse double feature, which included zombie flick Planet Terror and (my personal favorite) Death Proof, fans have been waiting patiently for Machete — which is based on a faux trailer that played in between films when Grindhouse was in theaters.

Here it is:

The Machete trailer featured ex-con and actor Danny Trejo, and the film is said to be two hours of the "set-up, double-crossed and left for dead" illegal immigrant who "knows the score, gets the women ... and kills the bad guys!”

Hopefully, the movie will have the same throwback action film feeling that the trailer had, and even more hopefully, Lilo will be on board.

At Comic-Con last week, Rodriguez told MTV that Lohan has a part if she wants it : "Lindsay's cool…There's actually a cool part in the movie for her — if she takes it."

With the rest of the rumored cast, Lohan would be a fool to pass this up: Michelle Rodriguez (swoon!) has already been cast and Robert DeNiro may be on board, along with Jonah Hill, from Judd Apatow’s clan.

"We've cast nobody but Danny [Trejo] and Michelle Rodriguez, but we've sent the script out to a lot of people," Robert Rodriguez told MTV, who reported that Hill confirmed that he was considering a role. "There are a lot of people we're sending it to, big names — but nobody that we've signed yet."

As for the plot, this is the plan so far, according to the Internet Movie Database:

Highly skilled Federale Machete is hired by some unsavory types to assassinate a senator. But just as he's about to take the shot, he notices someone aiming at him and realizes he's been set up. He barely survives the sniper's bullet, and is soon out for revenge on his former employers, with the reluctant assistance of his old friend Cheech Marin, who has become a priest and taken a vow of nonviolence. If you hire him to take out the bad guys, make sure the bad guys aren't you

MTV speculated that Lohan may be cast as the senator’s daughter, and Michelle Rodriguez was reportedly cast as a woman named Luz, though her character description is not yet available.

Whether Lohan is on board or not, I’ll be seeing this movie, and am very much looking forward to the real trailer. I’m nerdy and a total sucker for this stuff, but come on, it’s really cool.

And for the record, Planet Terror was far superior to Death Proof, despite the absence of Zoe Bell.

If there is any sort of girl-on-girl action I would hope that it wouldn't be done like the last Fast and the Furious movie. But if it does happen - at least it will be with two queer actresses :) Although, people would probably call it a casting stunt then..but oh well :P

I see massive drama on any set that has both Lilo and Michelle on it. One of two things will happen: they'll either get along smashingly and wind up getting each other in trouble, or the shit will hit the fan because I'm fair certain with Michelle's well rumored 'tude and Lilo's diva-ness there will be a clash of epic proportions. And honestly, I don't think Michelle is above smashing her fist right into Lilo's mouthy face. I think I'll skip the movie and watch the filming ;)

like one month ago i asked a friend of mine if MACHETE was rolling or even on plans of making! i loooooooved the trailer when i saw it, its gonna be awesome when it finally comes out!, im totally gonna see it and getting that poster in my room

I am SO down for this! I had no idea they were even making this. I am one happy broad, right now. I remember seeing Grindhouse in the theatres and I remember thinking, 'Robert- for the love of God, PLEASE make 'Machete!'' and now he is!

Life is good. it would be even better if they made that murdering, psycho, lesbian nun movie. :0) Speaking of which: can anyone remember where on this site (or any other site) that trailer is? I've looked all around and I can't find it.

And 'Death Proof' was good but, IMO, Quentin could have cut out the whole first part (the girls in the bar), just kept the second half and it would have ruled. It would have moved along alot better.

Hmmm…. I’m not really sure I know exactly what you are saying here. I do sense, however, that it is filled with hatred. It must be extremely exhausting to harbor such strong hatred for people that you don’t even know.

As far as the personal life of Mr Rodriguez, I know nothing about it and therefore feel that it isn’t my place to comment, a decision perhaps you should also have taken.

Lindsay Lohan has indeed done some damage to herself in the past but not overtly to other people and certainly not to you. There are a whole bunch of folks out there who are worthy of your contempt for all kinds of awful behavior, people who have done real harm to others through their greed, ignorance or hatred. All that energy that you are expending could be channeled into fighting a whack of injustices that we see every day. Just a suggestion.

Even though I have had some difficulty deciphering the last part of your comment, the closest guess I had was that perhaps you were referring to Ms. Lohan as a whore. I would like to mention that by all accounts she has been in a relatively monogamous relationship for several years (possibly even 5) with a woman. No matter how much you stretch the definition of ‘whore’ this behavior does not in any way fit.

Lastly, even though I find your comment frighteningly narrowminded, hate filled and frankly incomprehensible (on several levels), I wish you no harm or ill will. I do, however, wish that you similarly refrain from wishing harm and ill will onto others and think before you write.
