Lilith Fair will return in 2010Maybe I’m jaded, but most music festivals don’t seem worth the cost and the crowds for me. I’ll meander over to Chicago’s Blues Fest and lie in the grass every summer, but generally avoid the likes of Lollapalooza and Pitchfork Festival. Next year, however, I may have to change my tune: Lilith Fair is back, my friends.
After a 10 year hiatus, the all-ladies music festival is slated to return in 2010. Terry McBride, chief executive of Nettwerk Music Group, made the announcement over the weekend via Twitter but was tight-lipped when asked further questions about the festival.
Lilith Fair was started by Sarah McLachlan in 1997 and over three-years featured performances by Fiona Apple, The Cardigans, Sheryl Crow, Indigo Girls, Tracy Chapman, Erika Badu, Missy Elliot, Liz Phair, Sinead O’Connor, Queen Latifah and a slew more. (Fun fact: Tegan and Sara played a tiny stage at a few Lilith Fair concerts in 1999.)
While the original festival toured the U.S. and Canada, the McBride only mentioned a two week tour of the U.K. and Europe in his Twitter post. When Billboard inquired further , McBride said, “The only thing that I am saying is that Lilith Fair will be back for the summer of 2010.”
Let’s hope they do some U.S. dates too, because this is something I would actually fork out some cash to see. Lilith Fair jokes and puns were all the rage in the late-'90s — probably because people couldn’t handle the concept of a music festival being more than 15 percent female. Some called it “Breast-fest" and "Girlapalooza,” failing to notice the insanely talented performers who got their names out through the festival.
Just weeks after VH1 decided to bring back its Divas show , it looks like the “women who rock” phase is coming back. Oh, don’t we all miss that horrifying title?
Will McLachlan be involved in the festival's reincarnation? Still no word, but we will keep our ears to the ground. Are you excited about Lilith’s comeback? What would be your dream Lilith Fair line-up? Submitted by on April 29, 2009 - 2:00pm. |

OOH!
Excited?
Great news!
...
That would be beyond amazing! I really hope that they have dates in the U.S.... I was but a wee child blossoming under the guidance of Sarah McLachlan and Paula Cole, (not to mention Jewel before she completely sold out...) back when Lilith Fair first began, and even then I wished I could have gone!
My dream Lilith Fair line-up would definitely include Sarah McLachlan, Amanda Palmer, Alanis Morissette, Tracy Chapman, Sarah Bettens, Azure Ray, Sia, Skunk Anansie, CocoRosie... many amazing women in one place...

I second that...
I also wouldn't mind a little Meiko and/or Rachel Yamagata.

Good news to hear. I love good news. Sick of overhyped bad news, I'm allergic to it.
This picture is actress Paula Patton, the R&B/Soul RobinThicke's wife. She played in Deja Vu,Idelwild and Rush Hour 3. So it's not me.
Missy Higgins!!!
ehhh
you're skipping pitchfork and lolla?? are you kidding me? The lineup for Lollapalooza is incredible this year. Bat for Lashes, Neko Case, Santigold, Ida Maria, Chairlift, Hercules and Love Affair?!?? it's going to be incredible; i wish i lived remotely close to the chicago area!
as for a lillith; i think it'd need a bit of a makeover. i think a lot of ppl, women included, still think of it as a folksy hippie feminist shindig. which it is, but i dont think it carries all the joan osborne / 90's rock implications it used to. id love to see a lineup reflecting mutliple generations of women - including acts with men in them, too. it'd be awesome to see some incredible combinations like Tracy Chapman, Emmylou Harris, the Gossip, Azure Ray, Stars, Mates of State, etc... im going to keep an eye on this news; the concert has the potential to be really awesome.

I always always wanted to go because Sarah McLachlan is my favorite singer in the whole wide world! =] I hope she gets involve, so my dream can finally become true now that Im an adult and don't have to depend on my parents!!! yay!!!!

OMG, YESSS!!
Bring it on! THis is the best news I've heard all day!!! YES!
...sorry to kill the mood though but one question: has the "women's only space, no trannies allowed" controversy been resolved? (Yes, I am aware I more than oversimplified it, but you know...)
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
L Fair, for women only?
I have personally never attended this event, though I am a huge supporter of females in all walks of life. The issue here with this concert event is it boasts women performers yet most of the instruments are played by males. Can women only sing and nothing more? Yes, clearly I realize that some of the singers play along on an instrument but why always males in the bands? And why do they allow males at the concerts? Perhaps they should pick something up for the festival in michigan, no males. Can women have a huge concert event and not have a single male backing her up on stage in some capacity? Women can do this but will they?
Don't get me wrong, there are amazing performers that I would see in an ordinary venue or concert, but I refuse to give my support to the L Fair while they only perpetuate the stereotype that women can sing but still need males to back them up.

Dream Lineup
I pulled out the old t-shirts and showed my daughter, who was just a baby then..and told her to get ready for next Summer. I don't care who is in the line up, I am there. I went to two of them the first time and I will go to as many as they want to have this time around. Just a great time, every stage. I would definitely want Sarah M, Indigo Girls, Paula Cole, Natalie Merchant, Tori, Alanis, Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge, Sinead O'Connor, Missy Higgins, Melissa Ferrick but there are soooo many new women artists that are out theres, since the 90's....Alicia Keys, Lily Allen, Pink, (these are for my daughter)Lady GaGa, Pussycat Dolls, Amy Winehouse, Gwen Stefani Just so many and of course they changed in every city.....so you would have to pick and choose. I say just bring it on. We are ready. Whoever shows up.
YES! Natalie Merchant!!
I'm there!
Sheryl Crow
Lilith Fair 2010!
OMG. I'm soooooo excited.
I'm going. No matter where it is. I was just talking about Lilith Fair today, actually. I was younger than 10 for the first ones. I can't wait for this to happen again. I think my gen needs it. So, here's my ideal lineup:
1). Tegan and Sara
2). Uh Huh Her
3). The Gossip
4). The Cardigans
5). Indigo Girls
6). P!nk
8). Lissie Trullie
9). Evanesence
10). Joan Jett
THAT WOULD KICK ARSE!!! omg
Uh Huh Her
yep.
clicked on this story before i even read the title just on the basis of the me'shell ndegeocello (<3) pic. good news, and i hope they do at least a few shows stateside. i'd love to check it out.
also. . . the first time i heard jennifer nettles (soul miner's daughter, jennifer nettles band, sugarland) was on a lillith bootleg like 10 years ago. still listen to the jn band cds i bought right after hearing them that first time on the regular. pretty good stuff (and nothing like sugarland).
YAY!
I can't even verbalize what the Lilith Fair means to me. I went in 1999 when I was 14 because I had an inexplicable (ha) fascination with Sarah McLachlan. I was in awe of all the short haired women in tank tops and peasant skirts, bumper stickers about lesbians, and crazy jewelry everywhere. That was the summer I realized I might like girls more than as 'friends' - that year my entire life changed.
I can only hope Sarah will participate, though I do have to admit that I like her older work a lot more than what she has put out since the late 90s/early 2000s. I feel like she lost her spark... or something. I can't put my finger on it. Either way, she'll always have a special place in my queer little life.
YAY!
hmmm.... Lilith Fair 2010
Ruthie
Ruthie Foster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YAY!!!!!
This is the best news I've heard in ages! I went once in Toronto and it was fantastic! So many talented musicians. I really hope Sarah McLachlan and Fiona Apple will play. :cheer:
This is such exciting news!
there was such amazing talent 10 years ago at lilith fair. it was heaven to experience! my 2010 dream lineup would include: sarah (of course!), sia, bat for lashes, little boots, lily allen and cat power and piano girls regina spektor, marie haddad, and tori amos...wouldn't that be amazing if tori joined lilith fair?!
i really am completely elated that the tour is going to happen again! can't wait!
lilith fair 2010

i was so near to it in 1998, working at summer camp in MI, but didn't know the first thing about it. only later did i find out what exactly i'd missed...
