Maura Tierney knows when to fold 'em

The TV Guide blog reports that sometime next season, Maura Tierney will be leaving her long stint as nurse-turned-doctor Abby Lockhart on the workhorse medical drama ER.

Although Tierney asked the writers to kill off her character, that doesn't appear likely to happen if she and onscreen mate Goran Visnjic are going to jointly exit the show. But whatever she does, I will be thoroughly charmed — I always am. Comedy, drama, celebrity poker: I'm completely entranced by her, like a cat watching three feathers attached to a bit of string lashed to a birch switch.

I can't tell you how many

I can't tell you how many times I've heard gossip that she's a total monster to work with, but I can't help but love anyone that was part of that television gem Newsradio.

"He looks like he just stepped out of a Norman Rockwell painting... First Day at Bible College!"

Aw, Really?

She's a monster to work with? Aw, that's too bad. But some people have a very low tolerance for monsters. I have a high monster tolerance, but that's just because my first job was working for my grandmother in her dress shop. She fired me, btw, but then hired me back. Years of hell ensued.

Second the sentiment

I couldn't agree more. She is the only cast member who is worth watching since Carrie left the show. If she leaves, I may stop watching again, unless the subtext between Sammie and that photographer last week was real...

And, hey, don't you kind of want to see her and Neela hook up? I think the writers are missing some obvious chemistry.

ER is still ON?

jeebus.

i really like Maura as a serious and comedic actress. i think she's great. and i totally like her on the poker tournaments. i haven't heard about her being hard to work with.

my best friend and i have this thing with famous people we think are cool (mostly women). if someone i like is tv like on ellen or something i would say "oh i love her" and my best friend would reply "oh totally. she would totally hang out with us if she knew us!" maura's definitely one of those gals for us. lol

Maura

Agreed.

Also, I totally think Abby and Neela should have had a one night affair at the very least.  Great chemistry.

...

Well, even less reason for me to watch ER now...And I've been watching the show for years and years.  If she leaves, they will need to hire someone who can be seen as a replacement for her.  Honestly, in the last few years no new characters have been added that have many redeeming values.  The last great additions were Neela and Pratt -- Every other new character I can pretty much do without.

she is sooo cool. i love

she is sooo cool. i love maura, not least cos she reminds me of my first female crush at school, my religious education teacher, who ws a toal nutter and really awesome. i will actually cry if she leaves. i havnt watched the episode where laura innes leaves yet for the same reason, i think i need to watch it alone to mourn her deaparture. yes, i know, i'm really really sad..

Alcoholism

Many people who have a problem with alcohol are not alcoholics and in order to quit drinking they do not necessarily need medical treatment peer group support or a spiritual awakening.
