"The Time Traveler's Wife" trailer debuts

The trailer for the long, long overdue film adaptation of Audrey Niffenegger's The Time Traveler's Wife has finally been released. Not only has the film been so long delayed I, for one, was beginning to think it'd never happen (it's finally due in theaters August 14!), but it's also the first leading role for Rachel McAdams in more than two years.

After her trifecta of hit roles in Mean Girls, The Notebook and Wedding Crashers, Rachel has been fairly under-the-radar for a star of her caliber, playing only smaller roles (such as in The Family Stone and this year's State of Play).

Given the fact that The Time Traveler's Wife, co-staring Eric Bana, has been so widely anticipated ever since Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston first bought the movie rights (yep, it's been in the works that long), it'll be interesting to see how things could change for Rachel.

Check it out:

Then again, movies based on best-selling books could go either way — a total flop, or a smash hit. But, judging from the trailer, it seems pretty promising that it'll be the tear-jerking summer blockbuster of a romance I'd expect. Hopefully, it's not disappointing. But, with Rachel McAdams on the big screen, that'd be kind of hard, anyway.

Is the story or Rachel enough to make you want to see it? Have you read the book? (If not, you have some time. I recommend it!)

Yay!

I am so excited to see this film!

I loooooooved the book (it really does deserve that many o's in how much I loved it!)

And Rachel McAdams? Even if the film looked rubbish (which it doesnt) and the book sucked (which it didnt) I would still want to see it for her!

Im so looking forward to this film! Its been so long since they actually filmed it, that I was starting to think it wouldnt come out.

I used to take care of the girls playing the daughter (they are sisters and play her at different ages) so I've been waiting to see them on the big screen for quite some time!

I have yet to read the book, but I will defenately do so, and then see the movie. Rachel McAdams is enough to make me do alot of things.

I'm about to watch the trailer. Tbh I imagined Clare like the girl from 6 feet under or that they'd at least dye her hair red. Her hair is like a character in the book even if they can't fit that in the movie it would have been nice. I now love red hair and the more red hair is made to be a good thing the less ppl will get bullied for it..

edit: I do quite like them both now I've seen it. Didn'tlike her in Mean Girls, obvious you weren't meant to but she didn't stand out as somebody who might be really likable if they wanted, and he fits how I imagined quite well. Although she looks nice with brown hair I really don't understand why they didn't have her with long auburn locks when its so emphasised in the book. Was there a reason? She won't be as magical now.

Anyways, one of my fave books. I Always imagined him disappearing with a sudden poof, not gradually.. Anyone else?

Holy crap, the trailer

Holy crap, the trailer itself nearly brought tears to my eyes. I love, love, love Rachel McAdams. Could she be any more beautiful?

Agreeing with Jamie...

If you have the time, read the book.  It was recommended to me a long time ago and I kept putting it off.  Once I started though I was hooked.  Really looking forward to seeing what they do with this film and the trailer looks great!

(Spoiler) I must be in the minority...

I couldn't stand the story, and have no desire to see the movie.  As I got to the end of the book all I could think was, "Die already!"

Rachel McAdams is not enough to attract me to the movie.  The entire premise was so silly.  Maybe it's my biologist background, but there's no mutation that could cause somebody to time travel.  I just couldn't get past that.

Yes I do admit that at

Yes I do admit that at first the weirdness of the time travel idea was almost enough for me not to enjoy it but I loved it once I kinda got used to it. I agree I'd preferred if it hadn't been some biological thing. I LOVE time travel, but prefer it all sci-fi Doctor Who style with a time machine because that seems much more plausable even if it would never happen. (Or even a magic garden - Tom's Midnight Garden anybody?)

my dad hates nearly all time travel, 'cus usually it has obvious flaws and would mess up space and time continum, lol. I love it usually though. I esp love the Dpctor Who time travel stories (I know its a TT show but few of the stories have TT as the story as opposed to just the location and date. (e.g. Girl in Fireplace, Father's Day)

Meh

I read the book a few years back and really liked it. It's sorta chick lit which is something I never really liked much but there's definatly more to it than that, it had interesting characters and situations, things which I value highly in a book or film.

I have to go against the flow and say I didn't think much of the trailer though, it just looks bland. The trailer gives the impression that there's no darkness or anything a bit more adult which I thought helped made the book good for me. Of course trailers can be missleading but the cinematography looks very uninteresting too.

I never read the book and don't really care if it's believable or not because the hotness that is McAdams is BACK! hehehe.I do love my Canadian actresses.

She looks quite fine in the trailer (I'm partial to her as a brunette). I wish she did more, she definitely needs some meatier roles, so here's hoping that this does well and she starts making more movies in the future...

YAY!!!!

OH MY GOODNESS!! I cannot wait!! I absolutely loved this book, and am in love with the fact Rachel McAdmas is going to play Clare.(hottie) Overall I can say I'm excited!! ;)
phantomavatar08's picture

YES!!!

I found out about the movie about a year ago.  I didn'y really read the book until a few months back, but I'm really glad I did.  It was a very well written book considering the story is told from two very different perspectives, the leaver and the left.  I hope the film lives up to the book.  Even if it doesn't, it'll at least two hours of Rachel! ;)

I read the book like a year

I read the book like a year and a half ago. Then as soon as I finished it I saw that there was a movie being made about it and I was like "well shit". But it does look slightly promising. I loved the book and I love Rachel McAdams (I think she fits the role perfectly) so I'm kinda looking forward to it!

TTW

I read the book, and hated it. It was pervy, plain and simple. I couldn't relate to any of the characters, or their circumstances. Actually, if you could time travel, just imagine what you could do! Not in this story. It fails on every level. Worse than horrible. I don't know what that says about McAdams taking a role in it. I really have no opinion of her because she hasn't done anything to garner one yet.
The book was nothing but some sort of psychotic wishfulfillment by a woman who has a warped sense of what 'eternal' or predestined love might be.  To me that was sick.  There was no evolution of character, just static psychosis reinforced by more psychosis.  Which defines the static part.
Don't even plan on netflixing this one and will avoid once it hits TBS in heavy rotation in four years.

I loved this book

I hope they  don't make it super cheesy. But I loved the book, and I hope I'll love the movie as well :)

crossing my fingers!!

as much as i know this wont be nearly as incredible as the book, i cant wait. sure, it's an oprah book club / bestseller paperback, but there's good reason for it. i loved every second of this book, and i know ill be laughing and crying all the way through the movie. i was skeptical of eric bana, but after seeing the trailer, i think he'll do the part justice. and as for rachel mcadams, what's not to love? crossing my fingers that the adaptation does niffeneggers' novel justice.

i must be one of the only people who doesn't like this book... i really didn't enjoy it at all. i started and it was crap but.. i have to finish a book if i start it so kept going, hoping that it'd improve. aaaand it didn't. dunno if i'll watch the movie. don't want to go through it twice!

Lovely!

I have to say, I watched the trailer the other day and thought it looked really nice, now I want to read the book! Rachel is super cute, but we don't see enough of her, and Bana is a good actor very often underused, hopefully this could be a good come back for both of them :D

(and we will also enjoy watching Rachel in the next Sherlock Holmes movie, yeah!)

Trailer...

kinda pretty much tells you the whole story huh?
bekaaah's picture

Hmmmm,

This could be horrible wrong or okay. I mainly don't know if people will understand it in movie form, but i guess it might be easier..

Maybe they took all that time to get it perfect! Because it could go very wrong very easily.
