Simone Kaye and Jennifer Ellison to star in lesbian vampire flick "Carmilla"

English actresses Jennifer Ellison and Simone Kaye are going gay for pay in — what's this? — another lesbian vampire movie. It was just announced that they will play sapphic blood-suckers in Carmilla, which is based Sheridan Le Fanu's cult classic Victorian novel published 25 years before Bram Stoker's Dracula.

But this isn't the first time the novel is being adapted for the screen. The first time was for the 1960 film Blood Roses, which has become a classic lesbian vampire film, along with Vampyros Lesbos and Vampyres.

There was also a television adaptation of Carmilla, in an 1989 episode of Nightmare Classics starring Meg Tilly. Although, on TV, Tilly's Carmilla and Marie, the girl she stays with after her coach crashes, only become "extremely close" (i.e. they don't french). But, even a little googly eyes was enough for her to be accused of being a witch.

So, naturally, we need a modern-day remake involving a former pin-up who's been voted "The World's Sexiest Blonde" by various magazines. Ellison will play Laura and Kaye will be playing the lead role.

Apparently, this year's Lesbian Vampire Killers wasn't enough to add to the already impressively long list of lesbian vampire films. Although, that film was kind of a joke, right?

I wonder what it is about vampires and lesbians that seem to go so hand-in-hand for filmmakers. Why isn't there a niche of lesbian films involving things like firefighters, fitness instructors or construction workers? I'm guessing because hot bods and blood-red lips are sexier than hard hats?

     But another flick about lesbian vampires, can't they come up with anything else? No doubt I'll be checking it out though lol.

    I had a tinge of excitement until I realised who Jennifer Ellison was. Brookie did lesbians with Anna Friel now a Brookside version of lesbionic vampires?

    I, for one, am extremely excited about this developement. Carmilla is a classic of vampire and lesbian fiction. Have you ever wondered why vampires=lesbians? This book is why.

    I love that book. 

    It came out before Dracula AND is a better read than Dracula. 

    I will probably watch the movie where it is good or not because it is an adaptation of Carmilla. Hopefully it is good.

    I LOVE Carmilla. It's one of my favorite books and pretty much the main reason why lesbian vampires are so popular. They even payed homage to it in Lesbian Vampire Killers by giving the lesbian vampire leader the name "Carmilla".

     But I don't like the casting of Simone Kay at all. I always pictured Carmilla looking much different.  I think someone like Jordana Brewster would've been a much better choice. Juding by casting alone, I doubt it'll be a high budget or well-made film.. which means I'll have to wait even LONGER for a decent film adaption of this amazing book.

    I love vampire movies. Lets hope the cast can rock this one out !

     Incidentally, we need more good horror movies. It seems Hollywood doesnt know how to make one

    I was excited till I realized who was in it. This is going to be cheap and nasty, like asking "Nuts" or "FHM" to direct a film. Like someone else mention already Anna Friel(see my Avatar right!) has done an 18 month lesbian storyline on Brookside, imagine her and someone like Lena Headey in the roles, with a good script, and high production values! Now that would be worth watching.

    Jennifer Ellison I've heard of, but who's Simone Kaye? :S I'm already not looking forward to this, Jennifer Ellison is just not good. At most things.

    Eh, the lesbian vampire is safer than dealing with the homoeroticism between a guy vamp and his male victim. So, in a way, it's all just about titillation, transference, and then plain old avoidance.

    Ok, I've loved Carmilla ever since I read it in my Vampires in Lit class and have always wanted a good movie, but I'm not so sure about Jennifer Ellison playing Laura.  Hopefully it turns out to be good, but I have a feeling it could be really, really bad.

    Catherine Denuve in "The Hunger" had to be the sexiest  vampire woman of all time.

    Delphine Seyrig in "Daughters of Darkness" was pretty haunting too.

    But I am thirsty for more.

    the 1970 Hammer film, "The Vampire Lovers" starring Ingrid Pitt.  It's also based on Le Fanu's novel.

    side note: it's the first lesbian movie i ever watched. :)

    I notice on the IMDB page that Laura is--again--being given a young male love interest. Just like The Vampire Lovers and Crypt of the Vampire as well as Blood and Roses.
