Sienna Miller on "The Edge of Love"Sienna Miller replaced Lindsay Lohan for her part in The Edge of Love, so I should sort of hate her. But I can't. The Factory Girl star and one-time Jude Law lover dishes on her role as one of two women trying to win the heart of poet Dylan Thomas, while coincidentally becoming a lot, uh, closer with Keira Knightley in the process.
The real-life BFFs play women after Thomas' heart, and rumors quickly began to swirl about their own on-screen "lesbian love affair." But, as Miller tells Parade, it was really not the big deal everyone made it out to be: It all went way overboard. I'm not sure how it all got leaked. Suddenly, in England, there were like these tabloid headlines, "Lesbian Romp — Miller and Knightley." It was hyperbolized to the degree of just complete ridiculousness. There is a scene where our lips meet very briefly, and that became the big lesbian kiss. And we do take a bath together but it's not very erotic. There'll be a few disappointed men, I'm sure. Yeah. Men. The only ones who'll be disappointed. But, let's back up. They take a bath together and it's not very erotic? How many straight women bathe together? And drunken dips in the hot tub on every season of The Real World do not count. Sure, maybe they weren't kissing in the tub, but the whole idea of two women, naked, in a steaming tub sounds sort of erotic. So if it's the men Miller's concerned about, I don't think she has anything to worry about.
Discussing her real-life relationship with Knightley, Miller says they're like any other girlfriends, and it seems like they'd actually make a good couple, you know, if they swung that way. We're both quite nerdy. We talked about books and we played cards and did the Guardian crossword puzzle. There was a lot of that. Keira is learning the flute at the moment and I'm learning the piano, which I used to play when I was younger. So we really were nerdy, living together in this house in Wales, walking around in our pajamas and going for long walks. So cute. And a little gay, right?
The Edge of Love will be released in select cities March 13. Will you see it, even though their lips only "meet very briefly"? Submitted by on March 10, 2009 - 4:30pm. |

oh see it.
it's an amazing film,
I loved it,
regardless of the fact that I fancy Keira Knightley quite a bit [:
has it not come out in America yet??
it's been out on DVD here for ages!
I studied it for film studies, it's good stuff. I recommend.
European
Ohw come on us europeans take baths with our "girlfriends" all the time!! That hows edgy we are ;-). That and we dont shave our armpits, but thats a given..
Havent seen the film, but i quite like her reaction to the whole hype around the kiss. Making something out of nothing, its about time they make something out of something, lol
Yes
Values of the heart?
Unfortunately, I think our American culture is so removed from the values of the heart, that any kind of sensuousness and genuine affection between women becomes suspect. Knightley and Miller seem to have handled it pretty well, though.

can't pay me enough
sorry, I hate slow-moving flicks like that. I wanted to shoot my own foot when I was watching "A Very Long Engagement" because it was indeed, a very long engagement. For some reason, this movie seems to be in the same realm as the Tatou flick.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Miller > Lohan
At the risk of sounding like an ass, I'll probably see this now that she's involved.
Inkblots
whoa.
i didn't know that. thank god sienna miller replaced her. i liked that movie.
here's my favorite "interview" that they did while promoting the movie. so cute!

Love And Let Love.
i want to see this
i didn't even know it was out yet over here in australia
seems to have been for a few months now, so next time i'm at the dvd store
i'll have to get it, it looks quiet good
ok, maybe this is harsh but
ok, maybe this is harsh but most acts and times of intimacy between women have nothing gayish about them. they're just friendship and sisterhood and endearment.
god, why this obsessive need to see a hidden gay / sexual meaning everywhere? honestly, in your view two women (whatever the combination of sexual persuasion) can't have a very close relationship, be fond of each other's presence without it being just a big gay bubble waiting to burst??
in other words you like women because you're gay (i.e you want to shag them) not the other way round?
I agree, but...
"ok, maybe this is harsh but most acts and times of intimacy between women have nothing gayish about them. they're just friendship and sisterhood and endearment."
I agree, but the thing is, in America (in general) you see less of this (intimacy between women) than you do in Europe (at least that's been my experience). I spent 10 days in France one summer, and my friends and I joked about how it appeared that 80% of the women in France were lesbians. Obviously they weren't, but the way that they physically interacted with each other would have given them that label, had they been in America.
Sex is SO taboo in America, that I think that anytime we see anything remotely friendly/physical, we tend to assume that there is 'more going on' than there really is.
friendships can be intimate
yet not sexual. Duh who knew? I am happy i grew up in a culture, where naked skin doesn't automatically implicate sex. i would have baths with close friends, i would even touch their breasts when for an example giving a massage (or like a friend of mine pointing out a limb in her breast she thought she found), but still - it's all in your head.
re the movie - i like neither keira nor sienna or the storyline winding around 2 women looking or love and finding friendship.
I <3 Keira
I am so seeing this movie!! I love Keira Knightly and I will see anything thats has her in it!

Miller vs. Lohan
I'm with you inkling. *Not* that I think Lohan's acting stinks. I'm one of the few who loved her in Georgia Rule :). However, I doubt she could have pulled off a credible Welsh accent or persona that's so not American.
I like the Knightley/Miller dynamic.
I'm planning to see this. Love Brit indie movies. And Kiera Knightley's Mum (Sharman MAcDonald) wrote the screenplay. She's a veteran playwright who also wrote the screenply for an indie Emma Thompson film that I loved - The Winter Guest.
lohan's acting
Hi --
Not that I'm some big Lohan apologist, but speaking as a person with a foot on both sides of the pond, I can say that Lindsay Lohan's British accent in The Parent Trap was spot on (it's worth revisiting, since it co-starred Natasha Richardson); so I can't imagine she'd have a problem with Welsh or any other accent.

Must see
It was released in england last year, it is a great movie (albeit oh so very straight, indeed); it is actually somewhat a niche movie, wonder why keira knightley like to play "small" movies as such, perhaps she is very patriotic that support english film industry, hurray to her!
really, Lilo was meant to play this role? Miller played the role brilliantly.
I like the deep thought and portic bits the most.

yes!!!
Ive want to watch this movie so bad just because knightley is in it. I didnt know it had any 'lesbian' reference and it sure doesnt sound like that kissing material could be lesbian or erotic...straight girls do take baths together more often than not, so Ive learnt when im around my straight buddies Lol. Interpret it any way you want..Im still wathcing this movie!! :D

Let it Rock,Let it roll
Can't wait
Just thinking of Sienna and
Just thinking of Sienna and Keira in a tub together... Non erotic and all... Yar right.
Hmmm, I need a cold shower... but maybe because I'm a lesbian. :P
I want to watch it too!!! I'm always a sucker for good Victorian period fics. :D
Thank you Sienna
Thank god Miller replaced Lohan in this. Lohan isn't fit to share a screen with Knightley.
I'd never even heard of this film, but it sounds great. I'll definitely see it.
I kind of wish Lindsay Lohan
I kind of wish Lindsay Lohan was still playing the role, but I have to say that Sienna Miller looks like she will do it better.

this looks really good. i
this looks really good. i love kiera knightley. im thinking sienna miller is going to be better in it than lindsay lohan but that's just my humble opinion. the bathtub scene sounds very erotic i don't care what sienna miller says.
