"Melrose Place" gets remade with a Simpson sisterMost people my age watched 90210 when they were younger, and sometimes even those storylines were over our heads, so I don't know what I thought I was getting out of watching Melrose Place, other than one of my first girl-crushes in Daphne Zuniga, who played the mysterious, tomboyish photographer, Jo.
While I probably had no idea what was really going on with all the dramatic 20-somethings and their interconnected relationships, and really just thought their apartment complex with the pool in the middle was cool enough for me to move right in, next to Jo, I get it now. Which is probably why I didn't groan about the recently announced remake. Just like 90210, Melrose Place is making a comeback on the CW, starring — wait for it — Ashlee Simpson.
Seriously. The Fall Out Boy bride has just been confirmed as part of the new cast, along with confirmed neighbors Katie Cassidy and Michael Rady. EW's Ausiello reports that Heather Locklear is even in talks with the network about getting on board, which is great and everything, but seriously, what's up with Daphne?
I'm not sure what to think of Ashlee Simpson's involvement. She was definitely a guilty pleasure when she had her MTV reality show, black hair and original nose (her song "Boyfriend" was, at one point, my favorite ironic jam). But she's not known for much actual acting, unless you count her brief stint as Violet on 7th Heaven.
Melrose 2.0 is set to debut in the fall lineup. So Ashlee has time to get ready. As long as she delivers her own lines, she may be OK. What do you think? Submitted by on March 9, 2009 - 3:30pm. |

Sidney
This should be hilarious..
Ah, Melrose...
Ah, Melrose. I fell in love with Heather Locklear on the TJ Hooker re-runs, and followed her over to Melrose, where I promptly fell in love with Marcia Cross's Kimberly as well (and having mild crushes on pretty much all the other women as well). I followed it faithfully for about two seasons, at what point I realized that every person had done the full round and was back where they started without having moved forward at all (this was my first experience with soap operas), and ended up dumping it for the newly discovered X-Files (it had been on for a few years, but I had been deemed too young to watch it until then), and never looking back.
I won't be tuning in to the re-make. I loved the ladies, not the storylines, or characters, or the concept. I guess if they bring in some of the 'oldies', I'll watch an episode or two for old times sake, but that will be all.
I also had a crush on
I also had a crush on Jo!!!
10 years later I'm still all about brunettes with brown eyes! ;-)

Did anyone ever see Ashlee
Did anyone ever see Ashlee Simpson in the movie "Undiscovered"? I can't remember if I liked the movie, I only remember that Simpson sucked at life in it.
I heard Mischa Barton is rumored to be on it, too. Oh man, it is going to be a suck-fest.
That being said, I will definitely be tuning in. I'm not even sure what channel the CW is. But I can't wait to make a Melrose Place drinking game.
for real?
ALSO mischa barton? Are they planning on a one season stint?
Leave Melrose alone, bring back Veronica Mars!
Not Seen It...
Oh, CW. You can't find space
"you bleach-blonde piece of trash!"
BUT..er..the point of the original Melrose was to be the "older" counterpart to 90210. Meaning, no one looks like a teen. They work. Ashlee Simpson? Sad. I can only see her as maaaaaybe Allison. Please tell me she's not considered for Amanda Woodward.
Amanda, who is still one of my favorite characters, ever. Along with Sidney! And Peter! And Jo and Jake...AH melrose. Such (actual) bitch-slapping and guilty pleasure.
WTF
I don't really get why Melrose Place needs to be remade.
Why not just repeat the old stuff or come up with a NEW show?
