Marc Jacobs puts a lesbian couple on a T-shirt

I didn't think Marc Jacobs could get any cooler, until he used a male model for his men and women's fall line last year. While the out fashion designer is not necessarily a rarity, Jacobs continuously pushes the envelope, blurs boundaries, and any other cliche you could come up with to describe the fact that this guy is just awesome.

Marc Jacobs with partner Lorenzo Martone

Most recently, he's released a line of pro-gay marriage T-shirts on his Marc by Marc Jacobs line (you know, where regular people could actually shop).

The shirts come in two options: One with dollar signs and the American flag and one with a gay lady couple. Both say "I pay my taxes and I want my rights." Damn right!

The shirt with the lesbians on it also includes a baby (talk about cliches, right?). The funny part is that the cartoon, screen-printed lesbians are wearing what Elle UK refers to as "matching LBDs."

Of course, they're talking about the little black dresses, but, you know, the irony: lesbians, matching, babies, and LBD, of course. But Jacobs, who's engaged to his advertising exec partner Lorenzo Martone, couldn't possibly have intended the LBD known as Lesbian Bed Death. Right?

Also, this isn't the first time the designer has used his fashion talent for a cause. He also released T-shirts with naked celebs for skin cancer awareness, and this picture of Love magazine with queer covermodel Beth Ditto.

What do you think of Jacobs' gay marriage shirts? Would you buy one for $24?

I usually dont bother with designer stuff

because buying a $700 bag seems like the most insane thing you can do, but Marc Jacobs deserves every dime I pay for his stuff.

He's an activist in the fashion industry, which seems like a deathtrap nowadays but I'm glad he's doing it.

and yes, I'll totally buy his shirts. Especially the Beth Ditto one, would love to walk around with that one on me.

Ok, totatlly out of the point, but am I the only one who's a little creeped by how similiar Jacobs and his partner look, they look like they're almost related! Im not judging or anything, its just took me by suprise.

Speaking of Marc Jacobs

and his cancer awarness campaign, here is how they think of him in the Middle East:

Man Jailed in Dubai for wearing Marc Jacobs T-shirt

July 26, 2009

A Lebanese man visiting Dubai was jailed after wearing a Marc Jacobs T-shirt, reports The Telegraph. Dubai, known for its flourishing shopping scene, wasn't so much dismayed by the designer label, but what was on the tee -- Victoria Beckham, naked.

Raffi Nernekian's T-shirt was one in series that Jacobs designed in 2008 for a cancer awareness campaign. (Proceeds benefitted the NYU School of Medicine Interdisciplinary Melanoma Cooperative Group.) Nernekian's shirt displayed Beckham, nude, with the words "Protect the skin you're in" covering her naughty bits.

According to the article, Nernekian was confronted by a Dubai resident at a local bakery; when Nernekian changed and returned to the establishment, the police were waiting for him. He was sentenced to one month in prison and will be deported from Dubai after his jail term has been completed.

We always heard that Dubai was serious about fashion, but we didn't think they were prison-sentence serious.

Sad that I belong to such a place, no?! :P

Isn't the term "out

Isn't the term "out designer" a little redundant?

;)

Work that LBD!

Thinking about the matching LBDs comment got me to laughing. Although I think it's pretty clear that the magazine was referring to the matching outfits, I started trying to think of a way in which lesbian bed death could come into it, fashion-wise.

Also at the back of my mind was the thought that the tee with the drawing could have been much more powerful if actually cast and shot as a MJ-style ad, then printed a la the Beth Ditto tee.

So, suddenly I've got this image in my head of this photoshoot, with a photographer trying to elicit the proper look from the models:

"I want you to give me lesbian bed death here."

"Ignore the baby...."

"You haven't fucked since you inseminated her!"

"That's it! Work that LBD!"

Giggle.

"I am not a champion of lost causes but of causes not yet won."

Am i the only one who

Am i the only one who noticed one of the girls only have one leg?

Love the idea, but im not into the design :)

SpecialK7's picture

OMG

I read through all the comments to see if anyone else caught that the girl on the right was missing a leg!  hahaha

Cute idea, but those graphics are horrible.  I'd rather have the other tee.
