Lindsay Lohan's got leggingsLindsay Lohan really has something against pants. The girl is rarely seen sporting a pair of skinny jeans, preferring instead the super-ultra skinny look of her trademark piece of clothing: leggings. When she launched her own line of leggings for Nordstrom, 6126, we got it. She's so into leggings, she needs to make her own for other people to buy. Fine. But, photos for her Spring 2010 ad campaign for 6126 Leggings have just started popping up online and they are confusing, to say the least.
The photos themselves, shot by celeb photographers Indrani and Markus Klinko (who will star in Bravo's new reality show Double Exposure) are hot, as most non-tabloid-y snapshots of LiLo are. But the leggings themselves really make no sense. In one photo, it looks as though Linds is only wearing some biker shorts, with sheer leggings possibly attached. She's apparently going for the "Spandex shorts with tights underneath are totes in, guys!" look. It's not working.
Another campaign photo features her leaning against what may or may not be a stripper pole in a basic long black pair with gratuitous gaping slits down the sides. Someone call Brett Michaels and tell him his pants from 1985 were found. The rest of her outfit is straight out of Poison video. Lindsay, the groupie look doesn't work for you.
Then, there's the wannabe high-waisted skinny jeans but are really just high-waisted leggings meant to maybe sorta look like high-waisted skinny jeans pair. Too much effort! Just suck it up and wear some denim already!
I don't even have words for the all-lace-in-back pair that shows off her underwear. While these all make for attention-getting photos of Lindsay Lohan not looking crazy, it's hard to believe they're supposed to be selling an actual product. What do you think? i am toatlly rooting for lohan, i think shes a good actress and shes been through alot of shit. i hate the way perez and some of the straight media talks about her and i wish her the bes. but this isnt the golden age of lindsay right now, she doesnt look her best (she doesnt even look like her), her career is not where it should be and shes obviously got issues. in mentioning this, its not a matter of hate or ragging on her but just observations. clearly you have the right to your opinions, as we all do but to defend away all her bad choices (and im not really talking about the leggings, but on a whole) doent make it not true.

I know you are a huge fan and it's great, Lindsay needs a lot of people like you to cheer for her. I'm cheering for her for the sake that her fans (this includes you) don't "attack".
It's not pretty sight to see, funny but not pretty. I apologize in advance if you take my comment as a form of mockery on the internets because god knows we need more negativity on AE. I know Lindsay is a very sensitive subject for some people and anything critical written given the tons of tabs that writes a lot of crap, I wish Lindsay well and away from her mother.

when you say "why does afterellen hate lindsay so much?" are you referring to the readers/members or to the staff that is doing the writing? if you're referring to the bloggers, in general i've noticed an extact opposite trend going on since she "came out" in her relationship with ronson and then afterward.
if you're asking why people as readers might have a problem with that or with lohan herself, let me explain my reasons:
-- i think it's really lame that any chick who likes chicks gets publicity on this site just because of the fact and is suddenly hailed as a new role model or something. afterellen wanted nothing to do with lohan's (or any other like-minded celebrity's) insane antics before, and in fact if and when these people were talked about, it was with (at the very least) an obligatory eye roll. but as soon as she was spotted with another woman, suddenly we're expected to automatically embrace her. i resent the obligatory open-arms acceptance policy that we as a community are expected to have toward each and every new queer woman that comes along and then when someone doesn't express that kind of automatic acceptance, they end up getting trashed on for being anti-woman or some other lame thing like that.
-- this is related to the first point. really, who can look at lohan without seeing major problems here? even in those pictures she practically disappears into the damn pole, and i'm sure it's no surprise to anyone the extreme weight loss is only one symptom or example of exactly why she shouldn't be hailed as anyone's representative of anything except someone who needs major counseling and other psychiatric services. stop encouraging this. as queer women, as women, or just as people, instead of putting her on the covers of magazines for the purpose of either praising her OR knocking her down, we should be looking at her as what she is: a sick person who needs treatment.
i'm just so sick of people ignoring the problem or glossing over it. don't tell me that as a woman or as a lesbian that i should turn a blind eye or keep my mouth shut if i don't have something nice to say. the truth is that if lohan or a lot of these other stars did have someone who would sit down and tell them the truth about themselves they wouldn't be in the positions that they're in and we'd all be a lot better for it.

I've thought in this way too, especially in relation to Lilo. But AE's job is to cover "Lesbian and Bisexual women in entertainment and the media", so it makes sense that they wouldn't cover her before when they didn't know she was queer. And if they're gonna cover her, it's hard to do so and be all negative and hateful. At the very best articles will be neutral. Isn't it also sort of the gay media's purpose to protect and encourage LGBTQAI individuals to counterbalance the straight media trashing on them? I mean, there are already like a million straight tabloids all over the world making Lindsay look like a pathetic junke who doesn't know what she's doing?
To think that it all started with a pair of leggings. Btw, I only wear leggings in winter instead of long johns so I'm Swiz on this one.

the last time I wore leggings, I was probably about 6. and it was winter. and I wore them under something. What is the point of leggings? I don't understand this. Do you want to show off every contour of your bum to the world? Do you want everyone to see your unintentional (or not) cameltoe? And why on earth do you need cutouts in your leggings? Girls, put on a skirt or something.
Skinny blonde Lindsay makes me slightly scared. However - the shoes, damn, lady! A little strippery, but nothing that couldn't be toned down with different clothes. It's difficult to go wrong with platform stilettos.

I have to say I'm confused
But not about the leggings - but about the confusion about the leggings. I thought leggings were classified similarly to underwear - you know, bras, panties, tights, etc. and I've seen extremely skimpy almost non-existent versions of each of those things. I don't see anything about these pictures so far, that seem out of this world - I've actually seen leggings/tights similar to these (remember ladies - the fishnet tights, etc.?) She has a different design than perhaps some other people would have, but I remember that times when people were actually ripping their leggings/tights on purpose - so I just don't get why people have a hard time getting these. They're certainly not for everybody - I wouldn't wear them. But then again, neither would I wear stilettos, or those bra tanks that so many women wear these days.
Might work, might not - depends on the marketing. Lets keep in mind that just because we don't get something, doesnt mean the person behind it is necessarily off-their-rocker - we just don't get it - and no need for personal attacks :-) I wish her luck...

my problem with leggings
is that they're supposed to be worn UNDER something. You're right, I'd classify leggings as underwear - you know, UNDERwear. I just have an issue with girls walking around showing off every outline of their bums to me. Leggings are not trousers! I don't care how great your bum is, I'm tired of being faced with almost-naked colourful bums on a regular basis.
And in any case, I miss the days when Lindsay was redheaded and curvy, but I'm still a fan. I just miss the days when she was redheaded and fiery and curvy. And I think so do all of us, including the staff, at AE.

Honestly, I think there's no such thing as bad fashion. Even the most ridiculous piece of clothing is good for something on a certain ocasion. Who am I to judge? If it makes you happy, go for it, I'll be content with seeing people smile and be happy in their own skin.

i actually really like the whole high waisted leggings thing. and i know a ton of people (who *really* know how to dress themselves) who'd wear something like those leggings, too.
and, i love lindsay, even more so since she's started dating sam ronson. high profile same sex couples are amazing for the community. and i think she's hot, and she's trying to get her career back. and i mean, if people are still blogging about her, she must be doing *something* right.

I think I just realized why I don't like these.
They're not leggings.
I LOVE leggings. I lived in them when I was a kid, and there are several embarrassing pictures of me wearing just leggings and a tie-dye t-shirt, and even tie-dye leggings with a hoodie.
Leggings are insanely comfortable. They're warmer and more durable than tights, and less slobby than sweatpants. I can wear a pair of leggings and a cotton dress out of the house and be comfy as hell and look damn good. They're also stretchy, which is pretty nice to my curves. I often wear leggings to sleep. I wear them under my jeans in winter. I wear them with skirts and dresses, but not AS pants.
But those aren't leggings. Seriously, how are these meant to be worn? Over something? Under something? In what part of the world and at what time of the year are they supposed to be worn? Can they be worn by someone with some heft? Since when do leggings go OVER your shirt?
Notice how I said I didn't like the leggings without saying anything remotely related to the designer's personal life? Because that has nothing to do with the fact that I don't like the leggings.

There might be a market for the ripped look and hot-pants-legging combo. Those promotional shots could have save it if had been taken from a more aesthetic aspect rather than this, which made everything look so sleazy. I wish Lindsay the best, but this is confusing to me.
