Eden Riegel plays Lilith the lesbian in "Year One"

Eden Riegel is obviously no stranger to playing gay for pay, as her All My Children character Bianca Montgomery was the first soap opera lesbian ever. And now she's at it again, in the new Jack Black/Michael Cera comedy Year One, which opens in theaters today.

The Harold Ramis-directed film revolves around Black and Cera's caveman characters, Zed and Oh, wandering around during biblical times (strange, right?). While it might make absolutely no sense and is probably aimed to entertain 13-year-old boys, we can appreciate Eden continuing to not shy away from bringing visibility.

Here's the trailer:

Eden plays Lilith, Adam and Eve's daughter. (Lilith — really?) When Adam instructs Zed to "lie with" Lilith to fulfill god's wishes of to "be fruitful and multiple," Lilith says, "I like girls," putting a modern spin things.

Since I haven't seen the film yet (thanks jlews, for the tip), I'm not sure how much Lilith being a lesbian will actually be brought up, so it's hard to say if that will be enough to make this film sound interesting.

However, Olivia Wilde is also in it, playing Princess Inanna. She, alone, could be enough to make me see just about anything.

Maybe her and Lilith's paths will cross, if you know what I mean. Doubtful, I know.

Will you be seeing Year One?

I love Michael Cera

and Jack Black so I will be seeing it. It looks funny. The tiny bit of a lesbian doesn't have any effect on whether or not I will see it. I could care less.

Just saw it last night

i have to say that it was actually pretty funny. michael cera and jack black make a great comedic team!

as for lillith, she didn't really have much of a part in the movie. when she told jack black's character she likes girls, he acted really confused. she repeated again that she sleeps with girls and he was just kinda... confused haha. and as for olivia wilde... she looks gorgeous, as always :]

I'm not a huge fan of Jack Black's sense of humour so this movie wasn't one I was planning to see. However when I saw that Olivia Wilde was in it I sharply changed my mind :). She is amazing :). I would actually see anything if she was in it. Except maybe a horror... D:

Agreed!

Agreed!

I totally agree

my housemates and I saw the trailer for it on TV the other day and they all decided it wouldn't be a film they would bother seeing.  However I noticed Olivia Wilde in the trailer and once I explained to them who it was we all agreed it was worth seeing just for her :)

Same here

I remember thinking it looked like such a stupid movie when I first saw the trailer (I still do), but a guy friend of mine kept bugging me about seeing it and when I found out Olivia Wilde was in it and told him he was like "Ok, now you know you're going to have to see it with me." He knows I would watch her in anything lol, so we're going to see it next week.

Its Jlew! or Jlewser

The tip was made by me, but hey I'm not complaining.  There were actually a lot of sexual references in the movie.  Did you guys know Lilith is said to be the first woman God made from the same dust of Adam.  Adam wanted to rule over Lilith but Lilith wanted to be equal with Adam since they were made from the same dust.  She fled from the garden and vowed to get revenge.  Her story was said to have been left out from the Bible.
bobsfrankenbeans's picture

yea...

didn't she also come back and tempt eve away from adam- i could have sworn i read something about that.... and then adam and g-to-the-d were all 'no way man,' so she went off and had like a gazillion devil babies (and by devil babies i mean mutant spawn that have nothing to do with her doing anything with the devil)? or is that just the old testament version?
Jenn's picture

Thrilled.

It's hard for me to get excited about movies these days(besides harry potter) so I'm very excited to go see this. Cera is one of my favorite actors right now and everyone with eye balls is smitten over Eden.

I'll definitely be passing

I'll definitely be passing on this one even though it has the adorably charming Eden Riegel playing a lesbian again. The comedy looks puerile and beneath the talents of both Jack Black and Michael Cera.

AfterElton also has an interesting review of this movie that critiques its treatment of female characters and its use of "gay panic" for jokes.

Ha ha ha! Her name is Eden

Ha ha ha! Her name is Eden and she's playing Adam and Eve's daughter! lol.

Is anyone else confused about the timeline of this movie? There's Adam and Eve, but then there's Roman times? I can't wrap my head around that. I can't see this movie just because of the confusion.

bobsfrankenbeans's picture

i think i may be able to clear it up for you...

this movie is based on the AMERICAN interpretation of history- you know, the type that's all infactual and focuses more on the 'lesson,' and less on the ...erm 'reality.' That- or it's just a really, really, really long road trip.
Suzzie's picture

Haha

'That- or it's just a really, really, really long road trip'

Made me laugh!!! Will def be going to see this film when it comes out in the UK, I love Jack Black and Micheal Cera humour, and really most humour that is aimed at the 13-20 year old male population!!!

Plus Olivia Wilde as a Princessy type women.....anyone else need any more incouragment? DIDN'T THINK SO lol

Love Olivia

I'm skeptical about it as well, but Cera is hilarious and Olivia Wilde will totally get me to that theater seat.
Soccergirl1023's picture

<3 it!

All you have to say was Olivia Wilde and i'm there. lol....Cera is hilarious so is Black...I wanna go see it, i probably will eventually...or i might sneak in after i watch Transformers next Wednesday..haha

Olivia Wilde?

Yes, please! She is the only motivation for me to see this movie. As much incentive Angelina Jolie provided for me to purchase "Wanted" on iControl.

Biblica times ey?

if Olivia was alive during biblical times I'm sure more people would have read the bible lol Oh I can already see Christian groups rising to attack this film

A few facts

Lilith was actually Adams first wife; where as eve was created from the rib of adam, lilith was created from the same clay that Adam was and so was equal to him. hence she refused to summit to him and wanted to leave the Garden of eden. Adam wouldn't accept that lilith was equal to him and so she flew away, literally she flew out of the garden. adam went to go and wined that lilith had left him and so god sent angels out after lilith, but she argued agents them and they left her. through history she is now considered a sexual daemon who gives jewish boys wet dreams :P

and jewish girls, let us not forget the jewish girls.

First Known Vampire?...

I read once as well, that Lilith was the first woman molded from Adam or whatever...but in vampire history or whatever, there is a book explaining that Lilith was also the first known vampire ever. It was some sort of curse that she got because of the whole argument of wanting to be equal with Adam....kinda like the whole Cain being cursed with black skin because he killed Able, and that Cain is actually sasqatch/big foot....

Anyways really it's all bible mythology but still fun and interesting to read.......

OLIVIA WILDE FTW!

I will be watching Year One regardeless of the lesbian reference or not. Olivia Wilde and Michael Cera = I AM DEFINITELY WATCHING THE MOVIE! =P

I think Jack Black tends to overact in his roles.

Baley's picture

Ok Movie but small amount of olivia

I had high hopes for this movie just b/c of Olivia Wilde being in it. Alas, she was probably in 10-15 min of the movie at most which is such a shame. She also had some accent thing going on which made no sense of why she had it since no one else did. All in all it was a pretty good movie and you get to see Olivia on the big screen. =)
Paula's picture

<3 Olivia

I think i may go and see it just because Olivia is in it, even if she only appears for a short time.

Yeah...

The movie was pretty good. And Lillith didn't really have much of a part. And i read this before i saw the movie and i new it was coming so when i went in the movie, i was biting my nails waiting for her to say it. I thought it was gonna be longer than that but the movie was good. And afterwards, I couldn't stop talking about how hot Olivia Wilde was(:
Briony's picture

I saw it on opening night

I saw it on opening night and it just seemed like the lesbo reference was totally random. It was just to cock block Jack Black's character, but it was a pretty funny moment all the same. I totally thought Lilith and Inanna would hook up by the end, but it must have slipped the writers' minds.
Quite_Contrary's picture

I saw it on Friday

The movie was okay. A good part of it was funny, and some parts of it were gross. I pretty much saw it for Olivia though. She is amazingly gorgeous in this movie.  I don't know if her faux English accent was at all accurate or not, but I thought it was very sexy coming from her :-)

The full trailer actually

The full trailer actually looks pretty funny. I think I'll be definately be going to see this now. Jack Black + Michael Cera seem like a pretty awesome team. The ackowledgement that girls actually liked other girls in year one doesn't hurt either. : )

olivia <33

i saw it on friday with my brothers cause michael cera is adorable and i have the hugest, most insane crush on olivia wilde, who is amazingly sexy in the movie btw. she has a british-ish accent, and it is glorious. everyone should go see it just for her.

i didn't know about lilith before seeing it, so i was pleasantly surprised that the writers acknowledged that there were, in fact, lesbians in biblical times. i guess all my jewish day school teachers forgot about that part. i did notice that the name they picked for her, lilith, isn't exactly the nicest of names (lilith was an evil, demonic spirit kind of thing, and oftentimes the snake that tempted adam and eve to eat the forbidden fruit is called lilith), but i'll take what i can get.

Year One

I saw that today! I was about to spill it -- how cast is she being after her roll on All My Children. She should have showed up at the end with the princess Olivia Wilde. I was hoping! =P

I saw the movie today. It

I saw the movie today. It was surprisingly funny. If you are not one for slightly disgusting jokes, then don't go see it. I laughed quite a number of times. Micheal Cera is really awesome in it too. The two main female actresses are total eye candy too. ;)

That part was funny, but the rest of the movie...eh. I was disappointed in Black and Cera overall. Not horrible, but...

I agree about the female leads, though. Hah.

What the F

lol weird that Lilith is mentioned since I was recently reading the book Sextrology and I believe Aries woman is associated with her... hmm let me get it...

"Bible + Literature:

Aries' biblical archetype is Lilith, the original wife of Adam, whose character didn't comply with a male-dominant relationship. Her name recalls the lily (which btw in Japanese gives us "Yuri", which is a cultural symbol for girl x girl) or lotus, a symbol of yonic power."

Ha in regards to literature they also mention "the ever sapphic Xena, Warrior Princess" which mind you is interesting because this was for Aries Woman in general, not just gay aries woman.

Kay, that was random. Anyway I'll probably go see the movie when I'm in the mood for mindles comedy.

Lilith

Lilith is a pretty appropriate name for a lesbian character, and it seems pretty controversial to have one in a Bible comedy spoof! But I guess that is the whole point, isn't it? I can't wait to see this movie. online casino
