Alanis Morissette and Alicia Silverstone partner up to mock indie movies clichesI'm not sure how they do it, but FunnyorDie.com seems to get just about every celeb on board for some kind of spoof. The geniuses who brought us Lindsay Lohan's fake eHarmony ad are at it again, this time reminding us all about Alicia Silverstone. Not to say we've all forgotten, but clearly, some Hollywood folks have (I mean, Beauty Shop was the last big movie she was involved in. And that was 2005.)
Silverstone stars with Alanis Morissette in My Mother's Red Hat, a faux indie film trailer that takes the two on a cross country road trip after Silverstone's mother dies, saying she needs to "find herself."
Naturally, her best friend (Morissette) agrees to go along with her. The trailer combines just about every indie film cliche, including the seemingly vague plot line, awkward characters, and outlandish driving montages including picking up a hitchhiker. Here it is: The most over-the-top mocking of indie films is in the form of hyping the "cool" soundtrack for My Mother's Red Hat, flashing the names of some of the most obvious indie bands around, including Ra Ra Riot, Minus the Bear, Bright Eyes (and Conor Oberst, the same person, listed separately), and one eye-catching band called Muscular Lesbians. (Anyone familiar — with the band, I mean?)
The trailer even features a familiar lesbian duo. Did you hear it? Faux quotes from publications that say things like "Someone dies, then there's a lot of music. Much more music than story," and "Is this a CD or a movie?" help you realize this is not, in fact, an actual movie. But hey, maybe that wouldn't be such a bad idea, after all. I mean, it can't be worse than Silverstone's latest made-for-TV movie, Bad Mother's Handbook, right? Submitted by on July 16, 2009 - 3:00pm. |

I love reading the comments where people take the video completely out of context.
Is it just me?
Or is Alanis looking much better these days? For a while there she was looking like crap, but she's def got her mature "hotness" going for her!

"I don't wanna ever leave this spot ...ever"
totally had me in stitches.
Hilarious
I'm definitely a fan of indie music and movies, though over the years I have realised that the latter often tend to be a little pretentious. But still, this makes me feel slightly embarassed about being a fan!
Genius
hehe I'd actually see this, cause it looks hilarious. Its pretty brilliant though, Alanis Morissette is hilarious anyways and so is Alicia Silverstone. The two together is brilliant.
I always got the vibe from Alicia in the Aerosmith video with liv tyler.
I couldn't stop laughing at the Solo drum track played by a kitten. That was hysterical
Sucked. Gotta watch it again.
Love the alicia silverstone crotch grab.
I don't know how many times i watched Clueless hoping Silverstone and Brittany Murphy would hook up.

That was so class. Actually made me laugh.

That's brightened me up from my post-work gloom. It's all so true as well...playing all the songs on top of each other...all the montages.
Thanks for the find!

I don't know why I'm just
I don't know why I'm just now watching this! That was funny and pretty much true. I'm a little embarrassed now about how many of those artists I actually listen too. The part with Where Does the Good Go had me pausing the video for a while so I could go listen to the song again and sing along. Kitty drum track!!!

awesome
i would so actually go and see this film lol and i admit i had to pause the advert to listen to some of these sadly stereotypical "indie" bands too :D
and just to be slightly geeky, i notice they also listed lykke li as one of the artists on the soundtrack; had this film actually existed, this alone would make me ache to see the film! i love lykke li more than is holy...

Reminiscent of..
Of that music video of Melissa Etheridge with Julie Cypher "Nowhere To Go"... The dark reddish convertible car... Alanis losing the map.... the running around pointlessly...
Alanis is looking hot! Alicia used to look so hot back in the Aerosmith days... that "Crazy" video... wow... Now, not so hot.
LOL!!! I want the drum track played by the kitten... super cute joke... haha...
