Natalie Imbruglia's "Glorious" returnThere was a time in 1997–98 when you'd turn on the radio and just about the only tune you could hear was Natalie Imbruglia's chart-topping hit single "Torn." A lot can change in 10 years. For example, the fact that when I read her name online, my first thought was, "Huh. Where's she been?" Also, Imbruglia is all grown up now. I almost didn't recognize her at first glance. (And hey — do people even listen to the radio anymore? Isn't it all iTunes and iPods, anyway?)
It wasn't long, though, before I remembered why we liked her. And by "we," I mean me and all of my lesbian friends in college, most of whom also sported this very haircut. What? It's still cute.
I find it hard to believe, but apparently Imbruglia's amassed enough hits across the past decades to compile a 14-track greatest hits album. Entitled Glorious, it is due to be released later this month. I'm still not convinced she's been around long enough to really qualify for a best-of album, but fine.
Not that Imbruglia has had an easy recent past — she went from being named the world's 6th most naturally beautiful woman by a poll of beauty experts in 2004 (natural beauty meaning without makeup and including inner grace) to being dropped by L'Oreal earlier this summer. This just begs a "because she wasn't worth it" joke, but I'm trying really hard to be nice. Because, ouch. Imbruglia will be testing her staying power with a few projects set to release over the next couple of years. An as-yet-untitled album should be released early next year. And she's just landed in Adelaide, Australia to begin filming an project called Elise, in which she'll play a woman "troubled by the disappearance of her sister." Americans who've never had the pleasure of watching that ongoing Aussie drama Neighbours may not know that Imbruglia actually began her career in acting, like fellow Neighbours alum Kylie Minogue (Remember her? I owned this single.) Assuming she can reacquaint herself with her Australian accent after so many years of living in the U.K., Imbruglia says she's happy to return to her roots. (Though, come to think of it, I'm not sure an Australian would say that — "root" has a completely different meaning to our antipodean friends. When you visit, don't ever, ever tell someone you're "rooting" for your favorite sports team. I'm just saying.) How about revisiting Imbruglia, 10 years or so ago today? Jeremy Sheffield is gay???
great blog
i love natalie imbruglia but you got one thing wrong, she was on Loose Women about a month ago (like "the view" but english and better lol) and she said it definetly isnt a greatest hits album, she seemed to feel quite strongly about that, its just a collection of singles from 97 to 07 :D

you British have all the great names
"Loose Women" romps "The View" on a linguistic basis alone!
I didn't see that bit in any of her interviews, though she has taken a lot of crap for the "greatest hits" thing. It's no wonder that she's an eensy bit defensive.
Still. An album releasing previously released tunes, with an accompanying DVD of videos, marking a decade anniversary of some sort . . . Whiffs of "greatest hits" to me!
The band
Has it realy been 10 yrs??
Say it isn't so!
somehow
She should not dye her hair
L'Oreal
the difference
i prefer her from 10 years ago.her new image doesn't suit her.
-why the straight girls, why must them, why must i fall for u?
Neighbours
i love natalie imbruglia, i think it's from the days of neighbours to be fair she first appeared in that when i was about eight. I think she was only in it for a year but who could forget the greatness that was Beth and Brad, I'm not neighbours obsessed at all I promise!
Also on the Loose Women subject how great and funny is that show, not only does it have a brilliant name it has Collen Nolan and Carol McGiffin on pure genius!!
. . .
i know yeah, carol and colleen are one of the greatest things on tv :P

Ah, I had the BIGGEST crush
Ah, I had the BIGGEST crush on her. Without really realizing it, of course. Instead, I'd spend afternoons with my friend writing letters to teen magazines, asking for posters of Savage Garden. And then we'd turn on MTV and I'd gaze at the screen every time Natalie Imbruglia appeared - and didn't care one bit when Savage Garden's songs played.
One of my friends actually has that haircut right now - but she's not gay. Which is just absurd, because that haircut SCREAMS lesbian. It took me MONTHS to accept the fact that my friend with the gay haircut is in fact not gay.
Know who else had a similar haircut? Swedish one-hit-wonder Robyn. Who I've heard is in fact gay, although I can't remember where I read that, so. (http://youtube.com/watch?v=M8tXtLGr10I)
whoa
Her video looks like those CK1 ads from the 90's. And yeah, same haircut.
I'm 'rooting' for Natalie.
Ah, I remember her from Neighbours, though I was pretty young. Unfortunately I was too young to catch Kylie Minogue on it.
For those who don't reside in Australia it may seem like Natalie hasn't been around much, but she certainly has been active here. And her relationship with Daniel Johns from Silverchair is mentioned in the media quite often.
"When you visit, don't ever, ever tell someone you're "rooting" for your favorite sports team."
Ha ha ha. Yeah, it's probably not a good idea.
I live in Denmark, and
I live in Denmark, and Natalie had a huge hit here a couple of years ago, I think it was called shiver or something. And as for Kylie, did she get 'not big' all of a sudden? I'm really no expert when it comes to those kinds of things... ;)
"Even in death Gabrielle, I will never leave you"- Xena
I'm no expert either....
As much as i hate to admit to it,
as it shows my utter lack of maturity (ok thats obvious anyway), i still giggle everytime someone asks who I am rooting for. So many inappropriate responses!
*giggles for the sake of it*
Buy the ticket, take the ride.
It is a cute haircut
It's kind of girlie feminist/femme haircut # 3 - for when you want to look somewhat recognisable to other lesbians/ballbusting feminist harpies.
Oh, and it's also straight-chick-with-bi-potential haircut #1.
