"Miss Bollywood" heads west

Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty is having a big year.

U.K. audiences may know her best from Celebrity Big Brother; audiences elsewhere might also remember her from that, what with complaints about racist comments directed toward her in the Big Brother house. Shetty went on to win the series. Here's that moment:

Shetty's name also showed up in American newspapers earlier this year after this debacle:

And by debacle, I really mean how puffy Richard Gere is looking. Ugh. But this dip happened at a well-intentioned press conference in New Delhi that was intended to raise awareness about safe sex and HIV prevention, so I shouldn't mock too much. Despite criticism over that moment (from conservative elements in India who don't like PDA), Shetty's career looks to be taking off, especially in the West.

But before I get into that, here's a look at Shilpa doing what she does best. If you like pretty girls, dancing, and pretty girls dancing together, this one is worth watching. (Just ignore the man who falls out of the tree.)

And here's the good news for fans of Bollywood glitz in the West: Shetty is taking glamour and dance on tour in her new musical, Miss Bollywood. Advertised as a combination of Moulin Rouge and Andrew Lloyd Weber's Bombay Dreams, the musical aims to bring Bollywood and Indian culture west. (Has anybody seen Bombay Dreams? I shudder to think of Weber's name attached to a Bollywood-themed project — yes, sometimes I'm that musical snob — but it looks like the people who wrote the book actually have the creds to do a Bollywood project justice. I'd love to hear how it turned out.)

Miss Bollywood will premier in Berlin within the next month and play through the end of the year, then continue on to the West End, Broadway, and one or more stops in Austria Australia (oops, just call me George Bush at OPEC APEC). So there will be chances across a few continents to catch Shetty doing this:

    Ugh! Why Shilpa Shetty?

Ugh! Why Shilpa Shetty? Why aren't more people learning about Rani Mukerji or Kareena Kapoor? Someone with a little more substance.

(And by that I guess I mean: someone *I* find hot...)

    I Disagree

I think it's fine job that the blogger has done is bringing up bollywood to AE readers.. I am not against this blog whatsoever.

But in my opinion I think Madhuri Dixit [remember her?!] should be heading to Hollywood.. I mean she already lives in the States with her husband and the kids.. she has awesome english.. and man she can act really well, not to mention the best bollywood dancer [she had to teach Ash Rai how to dance in "Dola Re" for Devdas]. Despite being around her 40s she is hot as hell and is doing a HUGE COMEBACK in Bollywood once again. Click here PROMO FOR THE NEW MOVIE "Aaja Nachle" [Come Dance]

    I have butterflies now *swoon*

Shilpa Shetty isn't what bollywood wants.. infact one of her good old friend said it straight up during the time she was in the BB house.

She is doesn't have alot going for her.. so it's ok I guess that she's going to try Hollywood.. I think Ash Rai broke the barriers for the Bollywood Actors and Actresses, I mean even Salman Khan got a movie out with Ali [the girl from Heroes] called "Marigold" and he's a big idiot of all bollywood currently... anyways I used to like Shilpa before she went into the show.. but afterwards she's become this one annoying person that will not just go away.

Madhuri Dixit is full of talent.. I miss seeing her in bollywood movies.. here are some images from movie sets..

    Ugh! Why Shilpa Shetty?

Shilpa is gorgeous and an amazing dancer,  she's the perfect choice for the musical IMO.

    I actually saw Bombay Dreams

I actually saw Bombay Dreams with none other than Tamyra Gray in the lead role. I guess the casting people thought any non-white person could pass as Indian.

The show itself was ok; very glittery and bloated musical fare.

    Ugh! Why be so rude?

Shilpa Shetty might not take your fancy, but that's just you. Sure you're entitled to your opinion, but don't get on the blogger's case for not catering to your specific tastes.

    Not Bad.. Could've Added More..

    1. Fiza wasn't all that.. infact it was boring as hell..

    2. Chori Chori Chupke Chupke another crap acting portrayed by Salman Khan..

    ========================================================

Here's a list I would advice people to rent out and see:

    1. Salaam Namaste = Starring Saif Ali Khan, Preity Zinta, and Arshad Wasi [also special appearance/narration by Abhishek Bachan].. has some comedy, romance, and an interesting plot of the movie.. plus it's set in Austrailia so expect lovely locations.

    2. Namastey London = Starring Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Upen Patel, Rishi Kapoor, and Nina Wadia [who was a sketch comedienne for "Goodness Gracious Me" here in London].. obviously the movie is set in London, as well as Punjab/India.. and it has a great story line as well as smart dialogues. It's got great comedy as well.

    3. Waqt: The Race Against Time = Starring Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra [former Miss. India], Amitabh Bachan, Boman Irani and Rajpal Yadav [the last two names I have mentioned are one of the funniest comedy actors in Bollywood, so watch out for them].

    4. Partner = Starring Salman Khan, Govinda, Lara Dutta [former Miss. India] and Katrina Kaif as well as Rajpal Yadav. This movie is a rip-off the movie "Hitch" but its a nice bollywood version of it.. with alot of laughters. [I'll admit Salman's performance was better then the average].

    5. Kal Ho Naa Ho [Tomorrow May Never Come] = Starring Sharukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan and Jaya Bachan.. it's got comedy, romance and sad story line.. set in New York.. really good movie.. has nice music as well..

    6. Guru = Starring Abhishek Bachan, Aishwarya Rai [he's wife!].. it's got great music by A.R. Rahman, it's based on a real-life businessman in India.. it's got a bit of comedy, but Abhishek Bachan was spectacular in the movie as he had to put on some weight to get into his character and the acting was just excellent.. for once Ash and Abhishek looked like a proper couple on screen..

    7. Bluff Master = Starring Abhisheck Bachan, Priyanka Chopra, Nana Patekar and Ritesh Deshmukh. It's got comedy, great movie, has romance.. but also an interesting twist at the end.

OK, now I need to bring up some classic 90's bollywood movies.. it's a must see as bollywood no longer makes anything like it anymore.. which is sorta sad.. so I will bring up three more movies that is all..

    8. Beta [Son] = Starring Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Anupum Kher and Aruna Irani.. this movie is incredibly comedy, with amazing songs as well as Madhuri Dixit's acting. It's a MUST SEE.

    9. Dil Tera Aashiq = Starring Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Kadher Khan and Anupum Kher. It's a comedy movie, also you get to see Salman Khan doing a better job of acting back in the days and you get to see Madhuri Dixit do a make-over to fill in the shoes of a Teacher for the kids.. trust me.. it's funny.. Dixit and Kher do a parody song from Beta.

    10. Saajan = Starring Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit. It's a classic movie back in the days, with great songs, great acting by all three of the actors and actress. Has comedy in the movie, as well as romance.. It's one those movies you should have to see.. it's probably one of the classic romantic movies in the 90s.

If there is anyone who would like recommendations on particular actors/actresses movies I will be happy to give suggestions via PM.

    :]
