Aussie ladies at the Logie AwardsThe Australian TV industry just held its annual awards, the Logies (named after a guy we can all thank — or sometimes hate — who made television a workable medium). Some of the faces from the red carpet should be familiar to AfterEllen.com readers outside of Australia. Here's one: Demi Sorono, the out lesbian who made it to the final four of Australia's first season of So You Think You Can Dance. This was the final four:
The references to Demi's sexuality disappeared after the first few episodes, but the subtext was there the entire season. Speaking of shows with gay themes, some of the ladies of Satisfaction made the ceremony.
No Logie for the lesbian prostitute (possibly because her character was constructed entirely of clichéd craziness), but Alison Whyte took home a Silver Logie for Most Outstanding Actress. Also present was the model-turned-actress currently starring in the latest Wonder Woman casting rumors: Megan Gale. She does sort of look the part.
And here's the small but mighty winner of Most Popular New Female Talent:
If you've ever turned on Animal Planet, you know this face — or at least her crocodile-wrestling daddy. Bindi Irwin's been stepping into her father's legendary shoes with her own show, Bindi: The Jungle Girl. Another winner was the comedy duo Gina Riley and Jane Turner, whose Kath & Kim won Most Popular Light Entertainment.
Here's hoping that the U.S. version will win popularity contests later this year. Submitted by on May 6, 2008 - 1:00pm. |

LOOK AT MOIYEEE!!
After Ellen..came me!!
Yey! Well done to Gina and Jane, Kath and Kim is awesome!! I still laugh every time I watch an episode, and find new things that I missed the first 100 times!
Where are the pictures of the girls from Neighbours??!!!!! Kym Valentine (Libby Kennedy) deserves some screen time in my opinion. As does Jackie Woodburne who plays her Mum, Susan. She just gets better with age!! GILF, anyone??!!!!
BAM FOREVER..
My goodness!
You missed the gayest moment of the night: big ol' dyke (and Australian TV icon) Magda Szubanski pretending to have a scrag fight with Lisa McCune on the red carpet. McCune made some comment about wearing a g-string, Magda turned to the camera, goggle-eyed and smiled, before wandering off camera muttering to herself. Very funny.
Not Only But Also
Ooh
That was SO funny. I loved when Lisa grabbed the microphone and smacked Magda on the head with it. They're hilarious. I plan on seeing Guys and Dolls
You're Everywhere to me.
Yeah...
Magda's gay? Actually that
yes and yes to both of the above!
I love it when I find out
Megan Gale
If that mannequin gets the role of Wonder Woman - I am going to die...i will, i'll just die...
