"So You Think You Can Dance" mini-cap: Comfort stays but Kherington goes

I want you to read the whole recap so I’m not going to spoil things but if I start screaming NOOOOO now, you’ll know what’s up. All right, you’re going to do it anyway so I’ll just start with this — Comfort does NOT go home. That’s right. Throw yourself on the ground and scream ‘cause that’s what I was doing when the news was announced. Really that’s why we watch the show, right? To see who goes home? The rest is just pretty filler. Let me talk about that for a while before we all have to moan about who’s leaving.

The show starts with a lively Bollywood number resplendent with colorful costumes. I love it. Afterwards the dancers run over to the side of the stage and part, allowing the beautiful Cat Deeley to glide in. She announces that three of their regular choreographers — Mandy Moore, Shane Sparks and Wade Robson — have been nominated for Emmys. Also nominated is their make-up team. How awesome is that? I’ve always known that this show has the best dancing on TV and this proves it.

The top five girls angst (I know it’s not a verb, stay with me here) their way choreography by Mia Michaels. They’re dressed like ragged angels and emote all over the place. I like the first part where they’re all seated at the edge of the stage, swaying their upper bodies, but then it digresses into something weird with a lot of rolling about. It doesn’t help that they’re dancing to Celine Dion singing “Ave Maria.” I won’t bore you with my Celine dislike.

The girls line-up afterwards while Deeley does the dirty work of announcing the bottom two and it’s Comfort and Kherington. There’s no surprise with the former and of the latter I think, well, they’ve got to try to create some drama even if there isn’t any. Everyone knows Comfort is going home. Yawn.

After the break Deeley announces that the boys will dance a number created by a mystery choreographer. Um, OK. They do a peppy Broadway number to Joe Jackson’s “Five Guys Named Mo.” It’s cute, especially at the end where a couple of dancers have jumped in the arms of another guy. Who’s the choreographer? None other than the resident guy-with-a-bad-haircut judge Nigel Lythgoe.

Then the guys line up and there’s more drama. The boys in the bottom two slots are Mark and Gev. I can’t say I’m surprised. I love them both but someone’s got to go.

All four bottom dancers do solos if for no other reason than to fill time. Sure, I like watching them but this isn’t part of the competition, it’s just the producer (that would be Lythgoe) scratching his head and thinking, well Fox wants us to fill up a full hour and there’s no special guest so, I know! Let’s make the dancers with the least amount of votes dance again! And let’s ask each judge what they think of each dancer! Yes!

Here comes the part I hate. The two girls stand on stage, Deeley says some nice words, slowly opens her card, and announces that Kherington is going home. WHAT? Not fair, not fair, not fair. (Where’s that chocolate bar? Forget it, give me the whole case.) What are America’s voters thinking? (Kherington, honey, you can play on my soccer team anytime. At least you get to be on the tour. Come here, darlin’ and let me stroke your hair. Oops, I’ve drifted into fantasy. Sorry.)

A similar fate awaits the two boys and it doesn’t take long to find out that Gev is going home. That’s too bad ‘cause I thought his solos were fabulous and for a breaker, he did really well in the other styles.

Next week eight dancers compete. Who do you think is most likely to go home?

Better be Comfort...

If Comfort doesn't go home next week I'm never watching the show again...ok I'm being dramatic I will watch the show, but I still want her to go home. Last night's episode to me was the equivalent of Tamara Grey going home on American Idol over the rocker chick Nikki. WTF???

Kherington was a much better dancer...oh well...like you said someone had to go...

What I found funny though was even Comfort seemed shocked it wasn't her lol...she was like "WHAT????WHAT???"

Yeah!! I totally saw that too. The look on Comfort's face was hilarious but I was so amazed that Kherington kept smiling the way she did. Her face is sooooo pretty but she doesn't just have a pretty face, she can dance! Apparently America didn't agree...

YES!

I'm so happy Kherington is finally gone. I'm sorry, but she and her perma-smile BUGGED me. And if she didn't annoy me already, her attitude in those backstage clips wouldn't have endeared her to me either.

I'm sad about Gev, though. He was the closest I had to a favourite guy.

Comfort needs to go next week. She's nice and cool and funny but I agree with Nigel that he dancing is not Top 10 material.

Buh Bye Kherington. "The

Buh Bye Kherington. "The judges hate me!" Here's a young woman whose mother is a choreographer, and who has had all the breaks. She started out with a huge advantage and developed a huge chip on her shoulder when her pretty face couldn't wow the judges and her dancing just wasn't good enough.

Comfort has been dancing for less than three years. She has not had all the breaks, and she doesn't make excuses. She deserves to be in the top 8, Kherington doesn't.

I want to see Katee as the final female and Joshua as the final male. I hope Joshua takes it all in the end.

"The judges hate me"

Forgot about that. What a ridiculous thing to say, especially in light of how much they have been fawning over her from the Top 20-Top 10. I'm glad Lil' C called her on it and told her she couldn't fall apart like that after a bit of constructive criticism. They didn't even tell her she didn't belong in the Top 10 like they did to Comfort, and she was much more graceful about that. Meh.

I don't think

I don't think her mom is a choreographer. Kourtni's mom is. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Kherington's mom isn't a choreographer.

When did she say that?

Huh, I don't recall her saying that.  Did I fall asleep while watching the results show?

You mean the "judges hate

You mean the "judges hate me" comment? It was in the recap of Wednesday's show, right after they showed their negative criticism for the two-step. Kherington and Mark were backstage and talking to the camera and she said something like "I hope we redeem ourselves with the jazz because right now the judges hate me".

i love comfort

i agree that she is not the BEST dancer, but she does alright. i thought her last two solos were great.  kherington started losing energy at the end of her crump dance and never really got it back.  comfort has been improving.   plus, i think comfort has a crush on cat deely.  anyone else get the vibe from comfort?

"what kind of rat bastard psychotic would play that song right now at this minute?"

!!!

i flailed about on the couch after hearing the news. even out of Cat's mouth it still sounds horrible.

and about the choreographer mommy thing, kherington isnt the one. there was a girl who's mom was a choreographer but i dont think she made it to the top 20.

I think this is bad of me to say...

...but when they heard that Comfort stayed did anyone else think that it was fixed?  How bad would it have been (looked, felt) to have her voted off two weeks in a row.  I don't know, maybe that's just me.

I know that wasn't the case, but that was just my immediate thought after the initial shock subsided.  Maybe it's just because I really liked Kherington and was not expecting that outcome at all.

While she is a good dancer and getting better, I don't think Comfort can hang in against the other girls.

Happy Days!

Ooopsy!

spoilers

Can you please not post spoilers in the title?  We can see it from the main page.  You don't have to go to such extreme lengths like white text on white background, or a lot of warnings or anything.  Just not where the unsuspecting can accidentally stumble across it.....

Ditto!

Really loving the re-caps, but I don't watch the eps until the weekend, and catching the spoilery headline while perusing the site, was soooo disappointing.

I like to be surprised. :)

Thanks!

They never should have

Broken up Twitchington!!! Cause she had plenty of b.a. rountines before they broke them up. As soon as she got stuck with Mark, it all went downhill. I mean, I love the guy but I think he dragged Kherington down.

Well at least we still have Courtney....you can hardly blame Gev for having her on his mind ; ]

I don't think Kherington's mom is a choreographer...that was another girl. Are you talking about the girl who didn't get into the top 20 but her mom was an Emmy-winning choreographer or something? All I know is that Kherington is a soccer player too
peewee's picture

I Know!

I couldn't believe it either. Comfort is poop. Kherington was the shiz! A girl with so much more than a pretty face. And America votes her out. Nuts. And I agree with Athlete33, when Twitchington was seperated it may have been inevitable. I was also dissapointed that Gev got voted off to, he was such a cutie. Oh well, lookin forward to Comfort getting voted off next week either way.

I really thought Kherington

I really thought Kherington would stay, but I guess in the end people voted in the moment, and I'm pained to say that Kherington wasn't very good that night. I assume that in the end, it was Comfort's hip-hop routine w/ Twitch was what saved her.

...Although my whole theory of voting for the moment is kinda squashed when the fact is that Gev danced better than Mark that night, but w/e.

It really doesn't matter

It really doesn't matter how long comfort has been dancing, in terms of hip hop she's really good. Now the other styles not so much. I actually loved Kherington from her first audition, but her solos after that never measured up. So while she might be a little more versatile than comfort, I'm not sad to see her go.

Dancing

IMHO: I think that out of Comfort and Kherington, Kherington definitely was the better dancer because of her versatility. I also agree though that Kherington's attitude sucked during last weeks ep. The thing that bugs me so much about Comfort is (other than last week's result show solo) I've yet to be impressed by her solos. I've seen b-girls at nightclubs that can dance better than Comfort. And they bring that wow factor to their performances, that Comfort is missing.

As far as the routines are concerned...(for me) she doesn't embody the characters and the steps aren't fluid, they seem very forced. I cringed during her contemporary routine with Thanye.

But...America voted how they voted...and thats that ;-)

STUPID....and...WRONG....choice to send home...

are you kidding me???   Comfort should not even have been brought back to stand-in for Jessica..really, wtf?? the girl lacks passion, heart and soul in all of her dancing....jeesh.

and as for the boys...they're all immensely talented in their own unique way but, sadly, one does have to go home...we're coming down to the crunch now and no choice each week (except for Comfort being sent home) is going to make me happy

and PS:  can someone...anyone....tell me if they've seen a photo or image of Mia Michaels from when she was on a couple of weeks ago???? man, so hot in the black v-neck-off-the-shoulder number with the black hat!
