Samantha Fox gets engaged to her manager

More than a decade before Britney Spears became a slave 4 u and Christina Aguilera got dirrrty, pop singer Samantha Fox positioned herself as the — to steal a line from Britney — "not so innocent" vixen next door. In the mid-80s, when Tiffany was bouncing around in malls and Debbie Gibson was singing about electric youth, Sam Fox churned out a slew of hits that did not shy away from the subject of sex, such as "Touch Me (I Want Your Body)" and "Naughty Girls (Need Love Too)."

Much on Fox's career was founded on catering to male fantasies. Before she spent the latter half of the '80s singing odes to (presumably heterosexual) flirtation and sex, she first gained attention when she posed topless for British tabloid The Sun's Page Three feature at the age of 16.

Thus, it was a surprise to many when she came out in 2003, telling the press that she had been living with her girlfriend and manager Myra Stratton. (Then again, that was the era known as "Before Lindsay." Nowadays, even the top pick for Maxim's Hot 100 can come out and no one bats an eye.)

Yesterday, hour.ca reported that Fox and Stratton got engaged.

As for Samantha Fox, the bombshell tomboy still enjoys being centre stage. But, she tells me, "Myra and I just got engaged! You're the first I've told!"

Are kids on the way?

"I'd like to try next year," an exuberant Samantha says. "But I never seem to have nine months off!"

Congratulations to the newly-engaged couple! Where will the wedding take place? Spain? The Netherlands? Massachusetts? Or — drum roll please — Iowa?

    Lol Sam Fox

I thought Sam and her manager got married ages ago. Oh well congratulations anyway Sam. I think Sam would be best suited to an Ibiza wedding with documentary about it airing on Living TV.

I was way too young to remember Samantha Fox's music when I was a kid, but I recently saw the video for "Naughty Girls (Need Love Too)" at my local gay video bar, and my only thought was "Wow, look at those dancers.  Look at her.  Everyone in this video, including the singer, is so obviously gay."  Nice to see that, years later, Samantha is still living the fabulous lesbian life and embarking on happiness for life.  Way to go!

Wow. I had no idea she was gay. I was such a big fan of hers back in the day but lost track of her work after a certain time.

Congrats to the couple indeed. :)

I was a Tifanny fan too lol

The best part of this post is not Samantha Fox,

It is the link to the CNN article in which a man says of his partner, "We've been together in sickness and health, through the death of his mother, through the adoption of our children, through four long years of this legal battle," Morgan said, choking up. "And if being together through all of that isn't love and commitment or isn't family or isn't marriage, then I don't know what is."

Amen to that.  We should all be so lucky as to have family like that.

Where  have been? One of my favorite 80s pop star is a Lesbian...Geez...Congrats on her engagement.

Yeah Iowa legalizes Gay marriage...a complete shocker to me. This puts pressure on the surrounding states.  Anyway if same-gender marriages aren't legalize in the rest of the states what difference does it make, none. Still don't have all the same marriage rights like opposite-gender marriages. I save that discussion on another rainy day. At least this step forward in the conservative part of the country. So when will the rest of the country catch up?

Go in peace and surrender chaos for it has no place at the seat of your soul.

Yeah, I was surprised and delighted when she came out, so congrats to her on their engagement. I remember being at the only gay bar in town(at the time) and laughing, drinking and dancing inappropriately to Samantha's "Touch Me" song. lol Good times, good times;-)

    Congrats to her! Also, so

    Congrats to her!

Also, so odd. I did not know who Lindsay Wagner was until about an hour ago when my friend linked me to a thing she wants to go to http://www.londonexpo.com/ and then just now when I read the article you linked to it says she was madly in love with Lindsay when she was 14. Weird concidence!

There is a program over here called "Wife Swap" which she was on recently. I don't usually watch programs like that but I saw that one of the people was Sam Fox and I thought that might make it a bit different what with some guys wife being her gf's new live in woman for a week and with Sam's career, but it actually wasn't. I didn't really know what she was like but she came across as quite sweet actually and handled the tasks well. The guy she had to live with was Freddy Star. I thought it is notable because Sarah etc have written about how reality TV often has a negative light e.g. Tila Tequila, and I just thought this was the opposite.

this is how I'd best describe the episode (its long):

Freddy seemed very immature, lazy, expected his wife to do everything, he said women shouldn't moan about the washing because they have a machine which does most of the work for them, he answered his phone in the middle of the big important, some-what tense meeting of all 4 people. He is constantly winding people up but its not funny, Sam said it was wearing but just went with it. She was actually v. nice asking him if wanted a sandwich but he said "women make one sandwich, they think they own the place".. to the camera. Not very nice about women. He even mentioned Dwarf Porn :S and tried to make it funny but it was kinda like tumbleweeds going past. She was just like.. "okay, yes" and got used to nodding to make life easier. He even ordered in Chinese when he finally agreed it was his turn to organise dinner instead of cooking (even though Sam offered to help two days running after he was rude) because he said his wife Donna does when she's busy (except he wasn't busy). He kinda dragged the kids into that argument, it looked akward. In his house normally Donna does all the cooking etc but in Sam's house this was shared.
Oops, I went a bit off topic, I thought since you probably can't see it I would set the picture of him. Anyways Sam basically came across way better, she kept to the bargain and went he said stuff like "you have done half of what Donna does" she answered in a non-negative way by saying "Probably, I think Donna's amazing". I actually don't know why his wife lived with him, they had quite a lot of rows etc, said it was over between them, even ended up venting to the production crew. Sam was supportive about. In the first clip Donna seemed subdued by him but she was actually very nice.

Anyways my point is the program totally made Sam look better and him look like an idiot (im sure because that was the case) and Donna and Myra (Sam's gf) went to resaturants and she said Myra should have more her-time and even lit candles by her bath and got it ready for her! Also Sam and her had thought about having kids, Sam decided she was maternal by looking after Donna's child and Donna had Myra organise a kids party to see if she was which I thoguht was going to be odd but wasn't. There was one bit where they were reading the manuals each family left and about children it said "Its difficult with our way of life" but then that was actually referring to the touring and busy schedule Sam had rather than sexuality. It was way sweet when they were reunited, both couples. They all came across really well, inc, children all except Freddy. I guess there's the diff. between good playful immature (like your Hitlist) and what Freddy was. Anyways I ended up talking more about how annoying he was than Samantha Fox but I dunno I just kind of liked that episode, it didn't seem any different that it was two women, it wasn't even mentioned (but not in the way they were avoiding it) except for one bit where Donna says "the fact I was swapping with two women didn't phase me".

i had written all this out in a message to someone so thought it was relevant to post it in here :)

Years before Sam Fox did her surprise coming out

a friend of mine told me how she used to see everybody's favorite Page Three Girl at lesbian bars in London back in the 80's. Used to give her a big chuckle because Fox's image back then was so fiercely hetero and all the guys were going gaga for her.

    They don't call it "marriage"

But same-sex civil partnerships confer the same rights and obligations as het marriage does in the UK, so I imagine they'd do the ceremony at home. No need to run away to another country.

    Congrats to Sam & Myra!

I met them once and they were really sweet and obviously loved each other very much.

@ Trix: civil partnership isn't legally the same as het marriage over here, but it's all we've got I guess.
