New York City: home to fashionistas and the fake tan

Today Us Magazine released its list of "The 25 Most Stylish New Yorkers." The list serves as further confirmation that Manhattan is now merely L.A. on the East Coast, filled with rich kids, fake tans and little originality. I can get on board with choosing little Mr. Fierce and Fabulous, Christian Siriano, but whoever chose the women on this list needs to rethink what style is all about.

Where are the trendsetting New Yorkers of yore? Who is today’s Debbie Harry, Grace Jones or Madonna? (I'm talking about vintage Madonna, with the black spangled bracelets and the fishnets and the crucifixes.) Who do the kids look to copy today?

Kelly Ripa — really?

I love Kelly to bits and I’m sure she is dressed nicely every single day of her life, but is she really one of the most stylish people in all of New York? How hard is it to put on the clothes your stylist tells you to put on?

With a city full of fashionistas and artsy types, singer Aubrey O’Day of Danity Kane leads the pack when it comes to style? Maybe if style equals orange skin. (What is it with the fake tans, kids? You’re all looking way too much like the Oompa Loompas from the original Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.)

I’m sure Us made every gay person in New York shriek when they saw Elisabeth Hasselbeck on the list. I guess if you subtract her politics and her personality, Elisabeth wears some cute outfits like this (also, I just like seeing her picture on a lesbian site):

Still, I think the mag's list is lazy. I’m not seeing anyone very courageous, nobody with flair who is putting something out there.

Now replace any of those women with any of these, and we’re in business: M.I.A. (she owns an apartment in Brooklyn, so she makes my list), Agyness Deyn, Sia, Natalie Portman, Sarah Jessica Parker, Mary J. Blige, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Chloë Sevigny, Parker Posey and Uma Thurman.

Who would you have on the list of stylish New Yorkers? Who would you definitely not have? New Yorkers, we especially need to hear from you.

    I'm really surprised that natalie portman didn't make the list.  she's always been someone i tried to emulate fashion-wise.  Not to mention that she's just plain amazing overall.

     Leighton Meester also deserves credit for having amazing taste (and being hot).

     I think her hair isn't the problem in this pic but rather her face wtf? Looks like an overload of botox to me.

    Anyways,

     A true NYC fashionista would have to be miss Jennifer Hudson

    Okay so she's a crazy bitch but you wouldn't know that by just looking at her, Aubrey on the other hand might not be a crazy bitch, but thats the first thing that comes to mind when looking at her pics.

    i gota agree with the previous poster, but forget 'botox', it's 'style' we're talking about here. and this...

    ...is NOT New York!!! Not even close! And btw, what's with all the sundresses? Is global-warming affecting NYC that badly nowadays?? And last but not least, who are these women?!?

    Chloë Sevigny is definitely on my list, along side SJP.

    lulz aubs never had any botox done. though she has said she's not opposed to it. haha

    i don't see crazy bitch when i look at her pics, but my opinion is totally biased and because i know for a fact she's nowhere near that status. i think the ones who would think that would be those that don't really know anything about her and those that only read the negative things about her

    see thats the Aubrey that I think most of us including Diddy liked, the one in that display pic you got goin on. She was beautiful and comfortable in her own skin and not tryina pull a Jenna Jameson like the Aubrey I last saw on Making The Band last week.     I am a native New Yorker... There are so many beautiful people out there walking down the street... And tons of celebs... And this is what the list looks like? Such a disappointment... I feel like the people at US Weekly probably got a journalist that never stepped foot in NYC, to write this piece...
