Amy Sedaris returns to television this fallPraise be to the comedy gods! In the only news that matters more than the outcome of this country’s presidential election, Amy Sedaris is heading back to television! It’s true: The 47-year-old actress and author (as well as little sis to writer David Sedaris) will star in Gym Teacher: The Movie, airing September 12 on Nickelodeon.
Most of us first noticed Sedaris for her portrayal of boozer, user and loser Jerri Blank on Comedy Central’s nutty series Strangers With Candy. In Gym Teacher, she reunites with former Strangers co-star Paul Dinello, who directed the project. (For those of you who didn’t obsessively watch Strangers, Dinello played Mr. Jellineck, an art teacher who has a gay affair with Mr. Noblet, a social studies teacher played by the one and only Stephen Colbert.)
Gym Teacher finds Sedaris back in high school, but this time she plays the school’s kooky Principal Hoffman who’s crushing hard on a hunky gym teacher played by Law & Order: SVU’s Christopher Meloni. I don’t know about you, but I’m dying to see Detective Elliot Stabler in some crazy comic hijinks with Sedaris. The only thing that would make Gym Teacher a more fun affair for Strangers fans (aside from a role for Colbert) is a Jerri Blank cameo. In honor of the world’s most loveable 46-year-old high school student, let’s recall a few of Jerri’s craziest exploits:

Favorite Jerri Blank moment: when she becomes a born-again virgin and on the very very special episode of Strangers With Candy when Jerri can't go to Good Time Island. Its a toss up.
PS: I really hoping Amy was playing the Gym Teacher and you know...might have been gay.....ah well.

Oh, Strangers With Candy. I remember watching it when I was in middle school and not fully understanding everything, but then rediscovering the show during my freshman year in college and just falling in love with it. My favorite episode would be either the one when Jerri became a pot head, or the one when she has to take care of a live baby for class. But my favorite quote would have to be when Jerri recites a poem in Noblet's class before he cuts her off:

Oh man. So amazing. I love the "when you work from your home" one, too. And also, "you can't unfry things, Jerry." And "I can't give you that, it's too big!" (referring to a metal can that the baby wants... right before she cuts it in half and hands it over). I think my favorite Jerryism might just be the little hyperventilating and grabby hands she does when she's upset, occasionally followed by throwing a bowl of (3) candies in someone's face.
Am I the only one who can't imagine Amy Sedaris or Paul Dinello doing something they would allow children to see? I hope the fact this is on Nick doesn't mean it's going to be entirely parentally acceptable. SOMEONE should be offended.

I remember when she was on Letterman talking about her brother selling pot through the mail and being all messed on pain meds with her knee injury, then some girl came to her door and she fell over herself opening it for her. Hilarious bit.
