"The Machine Girl": Upping the ante in machine-gun chicI can’t say that I really consider myself to be a trend-follower. Despite this, however, I’ve got my finger firmly on the pulse of everything that’s cool, hip and happening! I know all about what the kids are into these days, whether it’s invisible cola, pet rocks, or even the macarena. Because I care, I’d like to impart a bit of insight into the latest fad sweeping the globe: Replacing amputated limbs with firearms! It all began during that magical era known as “last spring” when Rose McGowan ... ahem ... blasted her way onto the screen in Planet Terror, the Robert Rodriguez–helmed half of Grindhouse. As go-go dancer Cherry Darling, McGowan proved that there’s something oddly alluring about a gal blasting away at zombies with a machine gun that’s been crammed into her thigh. Who knew?
Upping the ante in machine-gun chic is the forthcoming Japanese flick The Machine Girl (Kataude mashin garu), a film that concerns a schoolgirl out for revenge when her family is killed (and her arm is amputated) by the Yakuza.
The Machine Girl has truly got it all: ninjas, sailor fuku school girls, revenge, Yakuza, flying guillotines, drill bras and, of course, the gatling gun arm. According to my calculations, those elements may add up to equal the best movie ever ... and by “best movie ever,” I mean I made out with the trailer five times last night. See for yourself, though be warned: the trailer is over-the-top bloody and totally NSFW.
While I’ll be first in line for The Machine Girl, I would never condone such violence in real life. I mean, if my arm were ever chopped off by a clan of ninja Yakuza, I’d like to think that I’d rise above the notion of revenge. Instead of a Gatling gun, maybe I’d attach a Super Soaker to myself and spend my days watering gardens and cooling off the neighborhood children during the summer heat. You know, giving peace a chance and all that. Submitted by on January 7, 2008 - 5:00pm. |

This statement made my day, LMAO. I would love to see a picture of that. The Japanese make some pretty crazy movies though, but then again so do we. I should know about the crazy Japanese films, my wife loves them and so do a lot of my friends. I watch them for what they are and most of the time I enjoy them. Other times, I scratch my head and have those huge WTF?! moments.

Ripoff!

Lies! Although I thought Planet Terror was pretty decent, I hated the fact that it was a complete ripoff of Evil Dead. Campy zombie movie? Check. Eccentric humour? Check. Dramatic pauses for main character(s) to insert hooky catchphrases? Check. Dismembered limb replaced with a deadly weapon? Check. The list goes on.
Still... that trailer was insane. I may just have to check it out.
Boomstick
Hmm, good point- I guess Bruce Campbell/Ash was technically the first gun-limbed character. In my defense, I was thinking strictly of the broads!

blehh
I didn't see much connection with evil dead. Even though it didn't really stay too true to the grindhouse theme as Tarantino's movie did, ahh Vanishing Point<3. The zombie element is in many movies, meh.
shop smart... shop s mart :( bruuuuuuuuuuce campbell
p.s. Death Proof and Vanishing Point make me wanna buy a new dodge challenger whenever they come out... I think like 2009?
y hello tharr
This reminds me somehow of Snakes on a Plane. I'm pretty sure 4chan has something to do with the increasing popularity of this flick...
Then again, who can blame them... *smirks*

I love gory Japanese psychological thrillers \0/ (though I'm a peace-lovin kinda girl as well ;) )
The sushi scene reminds me of that scene in Jisatsu Sakuru (Suicide Club). o_0
Oh, dang!
saw the trailer a month ago or so on UGO movie blog i think...
looks pretty sick, i'll definitely be anxiously awaiting the american release, whenever the fuck that will be. :( Doesn't list the american release on IMDB, but I'm assuming we wont get it until its out on dvd in japan, which sucks. Too bad every website I regularly read ends up writting something on it... and reminding me that I won't be able to see it for so long, heh.
she reminds me of go-go from kill bill and cherry darling combined. loveit<3
Definitely my kind of gore, I've had too much of August Underground [I was chewing gum when they fed the chick her own poop, it was not good for me] and Cannibal Holocaust realism lately. It's making me erkie. I need a good dose of over the top rediculous amounts of blood like this movie will have.<3<3<3
I wish i had a machine gun for an arm
