Styled Out: Jackie Warner wants you to be in her tops and bottomsJackie Warner has made quite the fitness fortune for herself and, I’m not sure if you know this or not, but the girl makes clothes, too. Yup, J.W. has been trying her hand at being a flexing fashionista.
SkyShop is the store on Jackie’s website where you can find the label created by Ms. Warner, and it’s just another pocket of Jackie’s all-encompassing house of health. I’m all for women going for the gold and there’s no denying that Warner is the epitome of exercise and all of the benefits being health conscious has to offer — I just think that she’s overcharging her die-hard fans with this line of fitness wear.
Granted, it’s essential to have the right clothing to wear to the gym. It has to be breathable and stretchable, and of course it never hurts to look cute while you’re sweating your stuff on the elliptical or under the watchful eye of a gorgeous trainer (like Jackie). But I think you’d have to agree after gazing upon these cropped sweatpants. I mean, really? I could buy those at Target and take the scissors to them myself.
I’m sure there are a lot of you who would argue that price wouldn’t be the issue to get you into Jackie’s threads because there are a lot of people I know who consider sportswear to be their main wear and therefore would have no problem throwing down on a really great pair of yoga pants or a name-brand warm-up jacket. It’s just that I think she could have gotten a little more inventive or rather cuter in her designs if she’s going to charge all that green. I mean, talk about going the cheaper route. I know this made-for-muscles workout shirt probably fits great, but the skull with the number “10”? What does that even mean? The weights-posing-as-crossbones top looks like something Kmart could have pumped out, and it’s all for about twice the price that fashion-barren wasteland would charge you.
Jackie, I’m all for you expanding your empire, but let’s get it together: Women your age would look like they’re shopping in the junior’s section if they put on this stuff and walked out on the street. Of course, it’s not all bad. I enjoy some of her color choices in the garments and appreciate the fact that she’s selling her whole package seeing as she’s in an image-based industry and some of her clients are going to eat it all up with a spoon. Next time just consult someone who’s actually in touch with current trends and not your dinosaur fashion sense. The camo gear she sometimes sports went out with her haircut 10 years ago. Would you throw down for these genuine lesbian workout duds? Submitted by on January 28, 2009 - 12:00pm. |

Her prices are about the
eh maybe
IMO fashion gym ware is
I don't understand why
48 bucks for a pair of sweat
OK, different realities for some of you posting
OK, maybe it's because I live in NYC, but sporting goods cost more then that here all the time, her prices are reasonable for this city. I mean you can spend less at a major chain for a pair of champion sweats or something, but we don't have chains much in this city, and her stuff looks actually nicely tailored in it's simplicity. So I'll have to disagree with you guys until I see the actual fabric to be sure the quality is up to par.. As someone who is no longer in my early frumpy 20s and living in an urban public transportation environment where you actually run into people you work for / with at the gym and the fact that you can't hide in your car on the way home... To look decently tailored in your casual wear actually means something, even working out.
Also, I'm so sick of tons of over cute over styled but crappy tailored gym clothes for women, I tend to wear nicer guys stuff as a result, but she's got some clothes that's alright, and I like the barbell logo. All this, and I don't even watch her show because I find her personality too annoying...LOL
I doubt her clothing line
I doubt her clothing line has any sweat-wicking or neoprene properties like a UA tank for half the price would. Seems like a bit of a rip-off.
Gym fashion is such an oxymoron. No one looks good when they're actually working out. This reminds me of something the tacky lady who wears jewelry in my Les Mills class would buy -- bearing in mind she rides her stationary bike on the lowest resistance setting and pedals as fast as she can while singing along to the music, I wouldn't be surprised if she's already placed an order.
Inkblots
Umm...
Amazing. Truly, amazing.
.......
the hats...
It's just the hats that I like. The rest of the clothes actually look kinda tacky. Where are all the better looking clothes from the show?

I give up
Are you guys kidding me? I go to the gym regularly, not a trainer, but I'm no light settings girl either, and cotton is almost all I'll wear to the gym! Everything else is some gnarly poly blend that drives me nuts (just can't stand how it feels on my skin).... I mean think about it, why don't they make guys exercise clothe skin tight in a poly blend? Because it's damn uncomfortable!!!! As for the sweat wicking clothes, the real stuff costs a fortune for all those talking about spending money, still I own a few wick away things for certain exercise circumstances (esp. shorts), but the stuff absorbs everything and it stinks after the first fifteen-20 minutes of working out, so much it even bothers me when I'm wearing it, not to mention that if you don't live in a hot climate it's too thin half the year!
Again, not into "The Workout," but I don't get the criticisms of the clothing line....
Sweats in black would be great, she should do that next run (eastcoast comment?!)
(oh, and funny, but I find the hats to be the tackiest items for sale, lol)
p.s. to the writer, what's with the agism?
note about the blog in general
(real quick: only spend lots of money on workout clothes if they're super-functional, i.e. not just cotton.)
i just caught on that this is a weekly blog by finding your first "styled out," emily, and saw that you were asking for general comments. so i know this is a little late, but it seems like you've been focusing on very specific things lately, like the T&S shoes and now this. any chance we could go back to trends, like layering for winter or the conundrum created by lots of snow on the ground ("how do i look cute AND manage to have dry feet?!?") ?
cheers.
