Thirteen divulges a millisecond of her lesbian past on "House"

There’s nothing like consoling your significant other with tales of your lesbian dalliances.

In last night’s episode of house, “Epic Fail,” we get a handful of failures on many fronts: House quits after being too emotionally unstable, Foreman assumes the position and is now Thirteen’s boss, Taub quits in order to pursue culinary arts, Thirteen offers to tell a tale of her college lesbianism to Foreman, who later fires her. WTF?

Rewind.

Let’s be honest: The only reason why I watch House is because of Olivia Wilde. I didn’t even start watching the show until I saw the infamous teaser of her hooking up with another woman in the episode “Lucky Thirteen.” I refuse to watch any season before she graced Princeton-Plainsboro (late 2007— yes, I’m obsessed) with her brooding stares, sexy suspenders and medical brilliance.

However, now that Thirteen has romantically joined forces with Foreman to make the yawn-inducing “Foreteen,” I’ve lost all interest; I mean, I don’t want to see some dude (even though Omar Epps is otherwise awesome) macking on my woman!

Nonetheless, my little sister follows the show avidly and obediently gives me any little lesbionic updates involving Thirteen. Being a good little sister, she told me about last night’s brief reference. After her hubby is stressing over his patient, Thirteen placates her lamenting lover by telling him about her “roommate Lindsay” from Sarah Lawrence College. Talk about a cliché. Unfortunately, the scene cut before we could hear anything about Lindsay and Thirteen’s dorm room romps.

Apparently, this doesn’t really do the job (are you serious?) and Foreman is constantly demanding of Thirteen (who doesn’t put up with his crap) and eventually fires her based on conflict of interest. End of episode.

Hold up! Foreman should be on his knees thanking Thirteen for sharing her intelligence, beauty and lesbian stories with him. Are you kidding? I’m really pissed. First of all, the thought of Foreman getting in on such sacred secrets really disturbs me. Second, what a jerk! I only hope that this tiff will result in Foreteen breaking up for good and Lindsay from Sarah Lawrence sweeping Thirteen off of her feet for a lesbian college reunion love fest. Do you think the writers would be up for that? Is it sweeps week yet?

Did anyone else catch the “Epic Failure” that was Monday's House episode? How annoyed did it make you?

Foreman and Thirteen

ugh I know right? I can't stand seeing them together.

Milliseconds

I've not seen this episode, though I've enjoyed what House I have seen.

However, my overriding feeling upon reading all this was:

"has the state of lesbian-interest TV really descended so far that we're scraping for milliseconds of screentime?"

The fact that House has, in Thirteen, a powderkeg of sapphic potential they are failing to ignite makes it too much of a televisual clit-tease. Someone go chuck a match in there!

Ugh that scene REALLY irked me.

All I can say is.. of course the roommate was a cheerleader. She should have just pulled out a playboy.

GypsyRoseLee's picture

I agree

The best thing the writers could do (and should have done for a while now) is break them up and make Spencer (Angela Gotts) come back!!!

I would definitely watch house then!

see no evil...

I had to literary block him out with my hand just to continue watching the damn episode, gosh he's so ugly, I don't know maybe I'm too gay to see his appeal. She deserves better, way better, women better.

Diana's picture

the worst part

was the fact that when Foreman was firing her she said "you're breaking up with me?" [which was incredibly similar to that same line she had in The OC towards Marisa] and my friends and I who watch House religiously every monday were screaming "yes, Yes YES!" at the screen... but were disappointed... of course...

I used to love house but after last season, I just decided to skip it.

No way....

No way will they get rid of her! I am sure she is staying, but hopefully she and Foreman will break up and she will be back in the dating pool, again!! He was/is such an ASS on the show! Why would she even be attracted to him in the first place??
CrashCart9's picture

If you block out Foreman, her smile in the bikini shot is gorg.

The decision to fire her based on the fact that *he* couldn't stand to lose her is what got me.  It was narcissistic and misogynistic of him to assume that she put their relationship that far above of her job like he obviously did and that she would just drop everything and become what, a housewife so he wouldn't feel conflict at work?  Sure, more reasonably she'd just get a job at another NJ or close by hospital, but when they were discussing such a resolution when it was House forcing them to split or quit last season, it was a different story.  If in this episode he had presented her the situation and they'd talked out a solution to resolve his feelings of conflict that ended in *her* deciding to take a position someplace else, this also would have been a different story.  What happened here is that Foreman abused his power as a boss to facilitate his relationship.  Good thing House is coming back quickly, because what Foreman said before Remy started regaling him with tales of college lesbianism (and I agree--cheerleader at a women's college, cliché much?) about him not being suited for the job?  I'm pretty sure we've seen very clear evidence of just that.

Mel_ee_Mel's picture

Is it just me?

Or did anybody else crack up when she tried House's sauce and said "this is the best thing I've ever eaten, and yes I'm including what you're thinking" Cuz I'm sure most lesbians minds went to the same place mine did...knowing 13's past...hahaha great line.
freakykaethe's picture

No, me too!

Totally cracked up at this scene, it was the best line in this episode imo! :D

Brandi's picture

As a bisexual woman,

I can't help but think that Thirteen's bisexuality is being used pretty much ONLY to titillate the straight men who are watching the show.  At least Angela on Bones had a proper relationship with her now ex-girlfriend, but Thirteen's one same-sex relationship on House has been a) when she was using drugs to avoid thinking about her illness, and b) just about sex and nothing else, and this week's episode, with her telling Foreman about her college roommate just to get him horny?  Ugh.  Maybe one day they'll treat her as more than just a plot device to get the hetero men horny.  We can only hope, anyway.  That kind of portrayal of a bisexual woman, with her sexuality only being used to either show how messed up she is or to titillate her boyfriend, gives us all a bad name.

sparkly underwater 's picture

Bones has a lesbian story

Bones has a lesbian story line?

Whey didnt anyone tell me... now I have to find those episodes and watch only those.

Zahra's picture

You said it

I couldn't agree more with Brandi above. Bi women deserve better!
on_earth09's picture

I agree

not only is he mean as helk, the man is not attractive at all..and teasing us with the girl-on-girl stuff is ludacris. if they just keep bringing it up randomly and not acting on it, there was no point beyond mere shock value.

Let's get one thing straight, I'm not.

woody-69's picture

A small point....

But it was House who pursued the culinary arts, attending a cooking class with Wilson only to discover that his (Houses') genius knows no bounds. He is a brilliant cook as witnessed by 13 when she dropped by his place. That was my favorite line of the night someone mentioned above, about the best thing she has ever tasted, and yes, including what you are thinking.

As for Olivia the actress, I would love it if she showed a little more respect for herself. It seems the writers of House are picking up on the real-life scenes of hers, the half naked men's magazine covers all while Megan Fox is talking about how sexy she is. The whole scenario has crossed over into something that's not all that appealing to me. Don't get me wrong, the girl is beautiful. I just feel that she is selling herself short. And, House is one of my favorite shows for many reasons, she being one of them.

drummerdeeds's picture

You're so right, woody-69

You're so right; my little sister caught that one...she talks way too fast. Sorry for the error and thanks!! And I completely agree with the selling herself short part. She's more than just a hot body and pretty face! So sad.
Kirstie's picture

haha

i only catch the show 'cause of OLIVIA <3

noooo, i missed the most recent episode ! :(

kandice's picture

lol

ive always watched house even before the wonderfal olivia came on. but ya i agree wit most of u her and forman are just odd together. hopefully shes not completly of the show unless house comes back and forman gets his old job and he keeps thirteen.
Mayra's picture

Eww

Okay I have a very good reason for missing this episode; I went to see Sick of Sarah (who were very cool and friendly btw). I'm getting kind of sick of the way Thirteen's sexuality is being exploited in House.  I mean bisexuality is not straight women who have meaningless sex with other women to turn male viewers on. That's pretty gross to me. No wonder bisexuals are pissed that their sexuality is not taken seriously.
rusty_tiffany's picture

foreteen ugh

i loved house (i have the first 4 seasons on dvd) and i ADORE olivia wilde, but even she wasn't enough to keep me interested in the show after thirteen and foreman got together. they're just such a bad couple, even though omar epps is pretty awesome on his own. they don't make any sense together. in all honesty, i think thirteen and cameron should be together. not just because i want to see olivia wilde and jennifer morrison make out, but because based on the characters, they make the most logical sense. cameron has a desire to help people in need, even when she can't do anything for them (like with her husband, who she married even though she knew he was dying); thirteen has a disease that will eventually kill her and she needs someone to keep her grounded. it just makes sense.
kissed_a_girl's picture

Epic fail indeed but staring at Olivia Wilde does help a little

Yes, that was an epic fail of an episode...seriously, Foreman was treating her like crap throughout the episode! And then to fire her!! I noticed she wasnt in the promo for the next episode...i hope she is still in it coz otherwise I might just stop watching!!
sparklet's picture

Absolutely STUPID

Now, I'm a little biased because I HATE Foreman, but Foreteen was dead from the start. My opinion of him hasn't changed much since they got together, but REALLY. You fire her and expect her to stay?? If this was me, he would have been lucky to escape with all of his facial features intact.... talk about a tacky move. But if you think about it, he has a crappy track record with women already (Nurse Wendy, anyone?).

I wasn't a big fan of 13's story, either. IMO another supremely tacky move.

And as a correction to the OP- Foreman and 13 aren't married.

Myf's picture

lul.

"I'm short... he's black... you're gay...-ish..."

P.S. According to IMDB.com, she will be in next weeks episode "The Tyrant".

The Tyrant

House's team struggles with an African politician who falls ill and decide if they want to help him after he's charged for crimes against humanity in his country.

What team?

summer_sapphire's picture

Ugh I can't believe Foreman

Ugh I can't believe Foreman fired Thirteen! I'm really not liking Foreman at all. I rather Foreman dump Thirteen than fire her! Besides Foreman + Thirteen = boringgggggggggggggggggg BIG TIME!

Could someone please pair Thirteen with someone more interesting, preferably with a woman?

PS. The old team is back next ep (well, at least temporarily)!!! I can't wait for next week!!!!!!

The Ep

Epic Fail was awesome. 13 being gone made me a little sad until I realized something....

Cameron and Chase are getting more air time. And that makes me very happy. Always like Cameron lots, and Chase is awesome.

I'm Sick And Tired

Of shows using lesbians to boost ratings. That one of my all-time favourites stooped to this level almost drove me to protesting and not watching it. Then I realized no one would know I was protesting as I sat, brooding, in front of my television.

Foreman is an idiot, egotistical, self-centered fool. The way he treated Thirteen in Epic Fail was utterly disgusting and no, she didn't really stand up to him at all. Not voicing her opinion when asked does not constitute standing up to him. Being ordered to dinner, being spoken down to... what's next? He'll decide who she can and can't see, thus inspiring her to rebel, sleep with a woman out of revenge, they'll fight, break up and around about ratings time, she'll sleep with another woman and then they'll get back together again. Oh, she'll probably end up pregnant as well by this point and then it'll be revealed that she's also slept with another man.

House should stick to diagnosing patients and Cuddy. Simple as that!

TheGreatSudol's picture

HA!

Your Screen Name is 13, and that is your 13th post, and it's about the character 13. That is hilarious.

As to Foreman's treatment of 13... well, duh. That was kinda the point. House was gone and Foreman put on Daddy's coat, and failed miserably. That's always been Foreman's character: he's so much like House it pisses him off, because he wants to believe that he is morally supeiror to House. And he takes it out on the people around him. He's done this since season three. It defines him as a character, 13 was just the latest casualty.

------------------------------------------------------------

House: "Lesbian!"
13: "I'm NOT a lesbian!"
House: "I was rounding up."

They are building it up

Come on guys ... the writers of House at least follow a story line and dont jump about like other shows do ....

We all know House is going to come back ...

13 is going to stay

She and foreman are going to break up.

The plastic surgeon guy .... I dont mind if he stays gone...

Maybe he will hire another girl ...   =D

"Come on guys ... the writers of House at least follow a story line and dont jump about like other shows do .... "

You're kidding, right? It's a horrible story line, one of several these days. The writers have gone from being kick-ass awesome to making just about everyone sit and scratch their heads. For example-the season finale? They made a lot of people angry by making the Huddy hook-up into a hallucination. People have been waiting YEARS for that, and only to be told "Oops, sorry, never happened, wait a little longer."

Now, House is my favorite show and I will stick with it till the end, but it's episodes like these that make me wonder when that end will come :(

Deavesy's picture

Feel Olivia is wasted...

I've been an avid fan of House since the beginning but feel the past series has definitley lost its way and one sign of this was the 'foreteen' relationship... I find it quite believable that Foreman would fancy Thirteen, but soooooo not believe that she would find him attractive. They could do so much with thirteen's character, but she has become sidelined in her relationship to Foreman, and lost her edge and independence.

Looking forward to new series of House though.. hope they improve on last series...

foreteen

is the worst thing to ever happen to house, i love everything about house except that coupling, its gross. i was so happy when i thought they were about to break up, and then he just fired her. seriously who does that?!
steamforged's picture

A different point of view.

A lot of people are saying they hate the Thirteen/Foreman pairing, that it's a bad relationship, etc.  I tend to agree that it's a bad relationship...  but I'm not sure I agree that it's bad -writing-.  The show doesn't really go in for easy answers, if you hadn't noticed.  They probably are bad for each other, and they almost certainly aren't going to last forever.  People do that a lot in life, a lot more than they get in a good relationship that does last forever.

Foreman and Thirteen hooked up while he was running a clinical trial she was in that might have saved her life.  Lots of emotional ups and downs, lots of her opening up and dealing with something when she's kept it locked inside...  The emotional attachment makes sense, even if it wasn't a good idea.

Also, whoever mentioned the hot suspenders somewhere up there...  AMEN TO THAT.  I paused that episode, rewound, and eventually hunted for a screencap of it online because oh my god Olivia Wilde in suspenders.

Robin's picture

I cannot watch the show because

I can NOT stand Foreman and Thirteen together.  Not an ounce of it contains the least bit of validity.   Epps is a wonderful actor, but I can't imagine that a hot bi woman would give up wonderful sapphic love for him.  And it makes my skin crawl. And the same thought lands like a thud in my mind:  this is wrong, this is wrong, this is so very very wrong. In what way does he, as a character, even remotely add to what she needs???

And so, my eyes might bleed out if I'm forced to watch this  simulacra of love.

I'm a Sagittarius -- part ass, part dude with a loaded weapon. What's not to love?  I'm pissed that Cupid got the falling in love arrow, we get the snarky, the-truth-is-gonna-hurt-arrow

The link just takes me to a promo for the new season, where is the extended version?

Let's get one thing straight, I'm not.

i really like olivia wilde

i really like olivia wilde but i can't STAND thirteen. i know she is a universally hated character on house.

they already got rid of my 2 favorites of the new team and then they are gonna bring back the old ones which they've turned into people i can't stand. the only people left that are good are house and wilson.

you gotta say though that episode 6x01 was SO good.

Hessy's picture

no and no.

yes i admit firing her was a dumb act that he never should have done. ever. and his reasons were awful.

but do you know what makes my personal skin crawl? reading this very sentence by poster Robin :  "I can NOT stand Foreman and Thirteen together.  Not an ounce of it contains the least bit of validity.   Epps is a wonderful actor, but I can't imagine that a hot bi woman would give up wonderful sapphic love for him.  And it makes my skin crawl."

It stuns me that you all sound so damn indignant about the pairing and olivia wilde etc etc as if what House writers are doing is somehow incredibly bad a portrayal of bisexuality. It's not. Yeah she's with a man, and has been with one for a while. That's the bi part. In no way do bi women give up sapphic love and what by tacking on the wonderful adjective, don't you reckon you're implying that male/female relationships are not as wonderful?

Does it make your skin crawl that she's with a man? or Foreman?
