Lady Gaga will march in D.C. for National Equality

Bisexual pop star Lady Gaga will be marching alongside her fellow gays this Sunday in Washington D.C. for the National Equality March. I think I just peed myself. No, not because I have an overactive bladder, but because I’m going to be there! As a D.C. native, I know I have to be down there to show support for LGBT rights, and maybe I’ll even get my mom to march alongside her gay (and favorite) daughter.

Gaga spoke passionately at a fundraiser for the March after performing on SNL, telling supporters, “Next week is the gay pride march and I know I’m going to be there marching with all of you.”

Oops. Lady Gaga, don’t know you that Pride happened during the summer? This is not just a “gay pride parade”— this is for political, social and human rights for LGBT Americans. This is much more than a party (though I do hope there’s an after-party); millions of Americans will be marching in policymakers’ backyards, making it impossible for them to shut the blinds of their offices and ignore our rights. I know she meant well, but she should realize her mistake.

Nonetheless, I love the fact that Lady Gaga and other performers like singer Billie Myers will be there. In an effort to rally activists and fans, Gaga so articulately said the event is “not a f-----g joke,” and for everyone to get their “asses to D.C. and wear something fabulous.”

One can only hope that she’ll be wearing something fabulously weird: maybe a “Skittles taste the rainbow” inspired outfit.

Or a giant gay repellent umbrella.

Either way I’m super excited to show my support and catch a glimpse of Gaga in our nation’s capital.

Will you be making the trek to the National Mall come Sunday?

wish I could be there...

Even though she constantly uses the term 'the gays', I still find that ambiguous term fairly cute, especially that its coming out from her.

I'm from a different continent so I dont think I can make it, but good luck to everyone who is involved.

omg...kermit genocide...why Lady Gaga WHY?!

MaggieMay's picture

I'll be there too!!

And I LOVE Lady Gaga...it's totally my inner gay boy showing :D For all of y'all in DC ladies "Revolution" is at EFN lounge tonight :) Might not be pride but since it's the gay community and people are coming in from around the country of COURSE we are going to turn it into a party too, heh.

i would love be there

and im glad that AE is reporting positvely on the march unlike the cynical negativity of queerty.

maybe the march will have wide reaching effects and maybe it wont but a good turn out will show people we are here and we demand and deserve our equal rights.

to everyone thats going, have a great time!

Agreed

Yeh, I really don't know why the media is being so negative about the march. It's a great opportunity for us to make our voices heard and to come together as a community. For those people who are looking to be cynical about it-- come up with a better idea. Everybody in the city and coming in for the march seems really excited, so leave the haters to sit in the corner with Barney Frank; we'll be hanging with Gaga and the President, who is at LEAST making some kind of effort on our part (finally) not that he hasn't had enough on his plate.

thank you!

instead of actually giving it a chance or media support people just want to piss on stuff.

on barney frank, i disagree entirely that the march will be a waste of time.  its not even happened yet and the spotlight is already moving towards us.

its kinda sad that the most prominent gay democrat wont support such a march.

UH!!!!

I am so completely depressed that I wont be there this weekend. I love Gaga so fracking much. Its parents weekend at my University and my parents decided they needed to be a part of it. Had I known that it was going to be the same weekend as the march I would have said no way jose to the parental visit. I was depressed enough about not going before, but after hearing that the Lady will be there I can barely stand to think about it. I'm so sad now. I'm missing out on making history and Lady Gaga. And to top it all off Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize. This weekend shows little promise.

I find it exasperating...

...the only coverage I'm hearing about the march in D.C. is from LGBT sources. Wtf mainstream media?

Equality March>>

Given that I live and work in D.C.- I'd have to say my chances of being at the march are 100%, LOL!

If anyone from AE is coming: I'm the big, black, bald dyke in the bright green t-shirt that says: "Gay D.C. Socialite.'

See ya' there!

DC March

I would love to go but I live like 9 hours away in Louisville KY.  If it were closer I would go.  We don't really have any big events like this here.  We have a small pride parade each year but that is about it.  I will be in DC in spirit.

marching with the Asian group

I belong to an Asian group here in DC. We have visitors from out of town and we are hosting a luncheon tomorrow at Cafe Asia in DC. The first one I went to was in 1993. It was a very profound experience. Anyone who lives close to DC should come out and make history.

Hope to see you all there!

Destini's picture

Right on!

Love that someone so mainstream is actually supporting instead of just talking about it. I have respect for that chick.

As for the march, be extra loud for me. I'd be there if my mother hadn't planned my graduation present (four weeks in Hawaii) for this month. I figure its a good alternative though lol. But I send all my love! <3

OMG!!!!!!

It was awesome!!!!!!!!

Lots of people turned up!  Energy was awesome!  Met some incredible people!  Hung out!  WOW!!!!

there were also a significant number of people marching not only for marriage equality but also for immigration equality reforms.  I just had an amazing time.  :)

...I didn't see GaGa, however, because I was starving and left right as she got on stage.  Oops.  xD  (Yes, food trumps celebrities ANY day)

K: you were missed, m'love  :)
