Christine Woods talks about her newly outed lesbian role on "FlashForward"I didn’t think it was possible for a lesbian character to look so good in a power suit since Bette Porter, but Christine Woods has proven me wrong. This week, Woods spoke to The Advocate about her (awesome) initiation into primetime, major network lesbianhood as Janis Hawk, the federal agent star of ABC’s new drama FlashForward.
Woods is more than enthusiastic to be playing a lesbian for the first time in her career and pushing the limits of her acting experience. She describes Janis as a “tough broad” who “holds her own” in her predominantly male FBI squad based in LA. About playing gay for the first time, Woods gushes, “I love it,” and applauds ABC for having “some really great gay characters on a lot of their shows.” Hmmm, I don’t know if they deserve that much applause — a certain platonic Calzona relationship and firing Dr. Erica Hahn in the middle of her sexual breakthrough come to mind — but nonetheless, she’s right when she appreciates the fact that her coming out on a date with Maya wasn’t a “big to-do; it was just part of her life and it was normal for her.”
As for the message that her (in the future) pregnant lesbian character sends to the red states in America, Woods says, “I think that it might piss them off, which is good.” She goes on to say that it’s not just a “gay issue” but a “woman issue as well as a human issue.” Woods, a “huge advocate of gay rights,” stresses the importance of normalizing and humanizing queer relationships, which is awesome. Though Janis Hawk's character just broke up with Maya (Navi Rawat) — who became her girlfriend after one date/hookup (typical) — or “Mosaicing” her (a social networking site even more intense than Facebook: you can see other people’s “flash forwards” to stalk them to the fullest creepy potential in the future and beyond), Woods says she doesn’t think “it’s the last we’re going to see of Maya.”
Score! I love Navi Rawat. Hot, hot, hot (even hotter now that she’s not getting knocked up by Ryan Atwood on The O.C.)
It’s awesome to see Janis Hawk and FlashForward portraying lesbianism and queer issues in such a positive, normal light. (Lesbian relationships, normal? Nah.) Christine Woods seems like a down-to-earth gem of a person, and I’m pretty sure she just got herself about a million-and-a-half more viewers. I know I’ll be tuning in; are you sold? I just started watching
I just happened to tune in last week! I was actually quite taken with the show, aside from its hot lez character....it is one I PVR each week! I really hope it continues to show us her 'private life' That was definitely a treat as a viewer!! lol

Loved it!
My girlfriend has been hooked on this show since the beginning, and she always DVRs it. When she was watching the episode with Janis' date, she called me down from upstairs and said I should watch this hot scene-- then backed up the recording for me. I was impressed! It was a believable date, their flirting was adorable, and I just loved the scene of the "morning after." All that was made better, for me at least, by the fact that the show hadn't hinted before of Janis being a lesbian-- she was treated like a "normal" character. Kudos, ABC! Me and my gf will continue to watch. :)
And I hope Maya does come back!

Navi Rawat is a beautful actress and I am so mad that they are not bringing her back!!!! I though her and Janis would make a fantastic couple! I thought their chemistry was amazing. Stupid writers!!!!

Janis is kickass!
I was pretty excited about FlashForward even before I knew there was going to be a lesbian character on the show. the premise of it is interesting--the kind of show that makes me think about a lot of 'what ifs' and 'what would you do' if i knew my future too..
SO it's a double plus that Janis is a lesbian -- one that is comfortable with herself too (taking exception about not being out at work). and she's super hot! and she kicks ass! Literally! Looking forward (no pun intended) to seeing her character develop! And the actress, Christine Woods, seems wonderful and very genuine. have never seen her in anything else before!

don't know if i might spoil anything-- better safe than sorry
going back to Janis not being out at work--when her boss was with her in the hospital and he brought in the flowers that Maya got her, he read out the card. something like "Worried about you -Maya" and then the boss gave her this look like he was trying to say "I know, and it's ok". I don't know, maybe it's just me... but did anyone catch that?
I could just be making it up in my head.. because the issue of coming out at work is something personal for me too lol

It took me awhile to get into this show, but after knowing that a lezzy character was going to appear...well I got into it even more. The show is turning up more interesting than Lost (hate it) Christine Woods is a total hottie, shes the other excuse to keep watching.

I am not sure if I am going
I was watching "FlashForward" anyway, but now...
even more so. I started watching the show initially because I love science fiction, and when I found out that Janis is gay, it was the cherry on the sundae.
I think Maya will be back... after all, in last week's episode, she did send flowers to Janis' hospital bed, and Janis didn't throw them out. I think they will kiss and make up soon.
you know its really weird
you know its really weird cause my whole family started watching this show from the beginning and then this lesbian story line started to unfold and I have never watched a program with a lesbian in with my family in the same room before. Maybe its due to the fact that i watch shows like skins, l word ect and they wouldn't be in to them but while i was watching this i did feel a little awkward and I know i shouldn't cause they know im gay and lets face it it wasn't a particularly raunchy scene on flashforward but its because i have never had chance to watch lesbains on tv before with them. I was nice though in another way because Janis hawk broke the ice for us all and made it appear that bit more normal in their eyes so I think it is really great that there is such a positive and strong lesbian in the show.
