An effing entertaining "SNL" premiere

This weekend, Saturday Night Live returned with a premiere that gave viewers more excitement than they had expected. As if Megan Fox hosting the show wasn’t enough to tantalize and tease, newcomer Jenny Slate upstaged the Jennifer’s Body star by dropping the “F-bomb.”

Slate uttered the big daddy of all curse words during the “Biker Chick Chat” among banter about jorts (jean shorts) and drinking beers with Kristen Wiig and Megan. After saying “freaking" one billion times, Slate got a little too caught up and said, “You know what? You stood up for yourself, and I f-----g love you for that.” Slate looked like a puffer fish after realizing her error, but the skit continued on just fine.

Obviously, NSFW for about a second as long as it takes for her to utter the word:

The New York Daily News reports that Slate won’t be fired for her F-Word flub, though the creators of the show had a media field day. Producers censored the live show with “freaking” for West Coast airings. The News also speculates that since the swear word aired well beyond primetime, at 12:40am, the FCC probably won’t fine SNL.

Apart from Jenny Slate’s potty mouth, Megan Fox was incredible. Really f------g incredible. Here's her monologue, where she pokes fun at herself and the "naked photos" of her on the internet:

What did you think of the return of Saturday Night Live?

Megan Fox was awesome

The rest of cast was crap (at least what I saw of the episode).  Actually...I take that back.  Kristen Wiig was kickass cool.

SNL used to be about 'smart' humour, with some drunken frat boy humour thrown in every now and then....now it seems to be 99% of the latter.  Honestly, I don't think that the show has been good for years.

Eff it...

I love Jenny Slate. I might have to start watching SNL again.

Megan Fox didn't step out of her box much

She played a flight attendant, a hooker, a mail-order bride, and herself. I wasn't impressed with the episode, and Biker Chit Chat was one of the few funny skits the entire night.

Also, soooo over U2.

LMAO.

Good thing I didn't watch it then!! I'm sorry, but she drives me NUTS!! She's not even a very good actress. The only reason people like her is for her "body." And the fact that she seems even slightly stupid makes her even less attractive in my book!!

Really?

As hot as she is, I didn't think Megan Fox was that great. The writing has gotten pretty dismal over the past few seasons (since Tina Fey left, pretty much) and I didn't get that many laughs out of the season premiere. Perhaps it will improve, but I probably won't be watching much more of this season. Shame.

And isn't Kristin Wiig pretty much carrying that whole show now? The woman's a superhero! The rest of the cast need to step up!

Since...

The world didn't come to an end when the F bomb dropped, censors should F-N ease up and let late night be more natural. We shouldn't have to pay for cable to real how people really speak.

Can't Resist

Sorry for venturing off topic, SapphicDay, but I have to ask: here on a blog about 21st century entertainment, where we "talk" all the time about TV, cable, and the intertubes, how ironic is your tag line, exactly?

I Must Say

This is the most laudatory post about SNL's return that I've seen. It's been panned by most I've read.

Meh

For all the hype, Megan Fox did a pretty lousy job.  She did ok on the monologue, but otherwise... I've seen better acting at a middle school play.  I don't understand the appeal of Megan Fox.  To me, she's perfectly ordinary looking and so far, rather talentless.

The rest of the show wasn't good either, what I saw of it.  I turned it off after the Weekend Update.  The whole cast seemed totally off. People were missing their cues, reading off the cue cards.  It was as if none of them had rehearsed the show.  Really a poor overall showing.

watched some of the clips

watched some of the clips last night....

Kristen Wiig has gotten a lot funnier lately. I enjoyed "Your mom talks to Megan Fox while you get ready..."

That's about it.

Completely off the subject of Megan Fox, but I'm pretty sure if Justin Timberlake became a cast member, things might improve....

C´mon America...!

It´s the 21th century and you still censure words and sertain body parts?

i know right

she might have been fired for that???????????????????????

Come on, it's the 21st century...

Geez, TV stations get a fine if someone's swearing on-screen? how much? That's utterly ridicolous. lol

What's the point of that? I don't think I learned any swearwords from TV which I didn't already knew from school. The point is to teach children how/when to (not) use them. Get over it.

monica_ca's picture

Wait a minute...

people actually found that Biker Chick talk show segment funny?  I thought that it was absolutely HORRID (as did every 'review' that I read of it).

SNL premiere was pure hype

I thought Megan Fox did ok, I mean we all know that she isn't the most talented actress but she sure tried. I was expecting more laughs, but all I had were chuckles everyonce in a while. Kristen Wigg pulled her side of the rope, since she was the funniest of the bunch. What a shame, the digital shorts were lame too.

Yes. The shorts.

The one with Magen and Will was so weird.

Totally, too weird, haha

I didn't love it.

I don't think Megan Fox is that great but I did like her monologue, and the Biker Chick talk skit was really bad. The only good part about it was the swearing and face that followed it.

And seriously, so what if there is a bit of cursing on TV? American TV has no problem with violance and sexual content, but one little word?

Best part of the SNL episode was the "just kidding" during Weekend Update. And the Weekend Update Thursday on Thursday.

I dont get the big

I dont get the big deal.......?

She said a word?

Sooner or later, you're gonna hear words like that in the big bad world. I also take that SNL is a kind of adult show? So, whats the problem? (SNL is not showed in Ireland)

As for megan fox-

Not so great acting. i always wondered how she ever became a actress. she's a hot woman but thats about it. the only roese she plays are ones thats close to soft porn. I wish they would give ehr proper acting roles or soemthing.

sorry...i'm not impressed

sorry...i'm not impressed with megan fox and i don't think she's that great of an actress. she's hot, but that's about it.

as for the f-word i wish we could stop this puritanical bullsh*t already, and use four letter words the way we use them in life.

Maybe I just have a really

Maybe I just have a really foul mouth but I didn't even blink when that happened. All I noticed was how horribly unfunny the whole skit was.

What happened to SNL? It's sooooooo bad these days.

Melissa Hsu's picture

I totally agree!

I totally agree with you! I didn't even notice that she said it until the next day when it was all over the news! Then of course I had to go back to Tivo and watch it again, haha. I mean seriously, what is the big deal? People need to grow up!
Stephanie's picture

Umm, no.

Yea, going to have to disagree ther. Megan Fox = not incredible. Wasn't really that funny or extraordinary. And once again, we have Megan Fox doing the ONLY thing she seems to be good at... talking about "ME, ME, ME, ME, oh, and ME."
lefunko's picture

if by incredible

you mean unremarkable, then yeah, she as incredible.  that monologue was crap.
electricbixxh's picture

haha

so weird. I was watching SNL and I didn't notice the F'bomb! I guess she did a good job recovering.

Maybe It's Just Me

But I just want a SNL world that involves Tina and Amy taking the piss out of Palin and Clinton. That never stops being funny!
STACIA's picture

Megan was quite funny...

But SNL has definitely seen better days.  The show just needs to be put to rest.

Scroll Lock's picture

Yeah, SNL really has not

Yeah, SNL really has not recovered from the loss of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, among others. The only genuinely funny cast member is Kristen Wiig, and the show would sink badly without her.

Megan Fox was okay, but they didn't really give her much to work with.

As for the F-word slip....I honestly didn't notice. No idea it even happened until I read about it after.
